[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

i have t installed to my nternal memory. this is definately something to mess around with. It is the FULL honeycomb experience on a nook color. if you havent done this already then you really don't know what your missing!

just like so many folks dumb enough to take this on with little or no command line/coding experience, i’m running into the same and similar problems with device recognition on my macbook pro.

i got the sd version of hc sdk running on my nc but cannot for the life of me get the market installed.

i got the two apk downloads saved in the “newer version” “platform-tools” folder.

after I “cd” to that folder in terminal, and get a prompt starting me in the correct directory, i then type “./adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system”

usually i get the following message: “error: device not found”

the macbook pro recognizes usb plugged device in regular nook mode with sd card removed.

i have booted, powered down, rebooted, removed card, restarted, re-plugged, replaced card, sang songs, massaged, begged, screamed, negotiated, re-negotiated, made promises i can’t keep, and even threatened my devices but I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I’M DOING.

So, despite my clearly naive undertaking, I’ve done nothing but make myself more and more excited to get the market properly working on my nc tablet mod (for the benefit of my 60 yr old father actually), and at the same time, consider giving up technology altogether. (this coming from someone who owns and uses daily 3 smartphones, 2 mac laptops, and 2 netbooks, an imac and and mac mini server.

would a real dev please find it in your heart to offer some guidance. thanks in advance to the admin for allowing my rant.

I don't own a Mac, my advice google how to installed android sdk on a Mac, you might be able to find information on how to get adb working.

On windows there are three steps to follow,
install android sdk
set adb in the path environment
install drivers

Not sure if the mac is similar, if you got a netbook with windows used it and I can help you.
If you read a couple of pages back, someone installed everything on a mac. Send him a private message, he might be able to help you. Most of the people in this forum are very helpful.

I need to get up to 5 posts before I'm permitted to send a pm but I appreciate the quick response. Thanks. The only netbook I have at home right now is running jolicloud but I may take you up on the windows offer later in the week -- really hoping to solve this problem over the weekend though.

Has anyone got flashplayer 10.1 installed? I am running v4 off sd card for now. I noticed some apps not in market including flash player. tried downloading apk but it fails to install. I used the adb install command but is it better to mount than push the apk? I have had a lot of luck just using install command until lately.

In windows it would take you 15mins.
I found another thread with the adb help and some mac users
http://forum.androidcentral.com/barnes-noble-nook-color/56968-tips-adb-device-not-found-error-2.html

Try it, otherwise will help you on windows.

Not that many apps are HC compatible, remember this ROM is based on a preview sdk. Once the official release is out, will be a different story. The nook is going to be a hot item, the only affordable tablet. Compared to the $800 xoom.

usually i get the following message: ?error: device not found?

With the NC plugged in, try this:

% killall -9 adb
% adb devices

And see if your device is listed. If so, proceed with the remount and push steps.
If not, have you added the vendor id to your adb_usb.ini file? It lives in ~/.android/adb_usb.ini (where ~ is your home directory). It should have the following line in it:

0x2080

Good luck!

ANDROID_ (flashing underscore) and it stops there

Okay, I am officially frustrated. I am trying to install Honeycomb to my Nook
I have downloaded nookhoney04.img.zip both directly from
h t t p ://w w w . r b r u n e . d e / n o o k h o n e y 0 4 . i m g . z i p and using Bittorrent.
I have expanded it using WinRar,7z, and WinZip.
I have used both WinImage, and Win32DiskImager to install the disk image.
I am using an 8 gig HCSD card, (only class 4) from PNY.

I get the Loading . . .
Then the ANDROID_ (flashing underscore) and it stops there.
I have let it stay until the screen goes to sleep, and woken up.
I have powered down and restarted, no avail.

On the off chance that I had a bad card, I have installed Nookie Froyo on the card, version - 0.6.7, and this runs fine.

So I am officially frustrated

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I tried three different sd cards, 8gb class 4 and 16gb class 10.
On the class 10, I got the password problem, and on the class 4 I got the same problem as you.
the only one that worked was 8gb class 2. Look for another sd card until you find one that works.

On the Mac version of the android software, I don't even see an adb_usb file. Is there an equivalent in the Mac version?

Thanks.

I cant get the market to push thru ADB, it tells me path not correct. I need a complete walk thru , can anyone help me out

Actually, I am referring to the Mac version. You really should have a .android directory under HOME. My adb_usb.ini looks like this; note it shows how to first generate it.

# ANDROID 3RD PARTY USB VENDOR ID LIST -- DO NOT EDIT.
# USE 'android update adb' TO GENERATE.
# 1 USB VENDOR ID PER LINE.
0x2080

Ok so i think I have discovered a bit more with this release that ought to sort itself in due time:
Youtube- Think its using new APIs (renderscript?) and thus HD videoes dont work, sometimes SD videos do work, sometimes stuttering. vimeo and such on other sites works fine
@ the person wanting to install flash player 10.1- would seriously advise against it. Likey built in with a beta of 10.2 optimised for HC. overwiting it wouldnt be a good idea.
Google maps- installed the v5 release (with the vector maps, popup buildings) zooming in I see the buildings, but I cant get HC/Nook to recognize the 2 finger drag down gesture to get the map to go into "3D" mode. Kinda bites. :( Maybe its the lack of a compass but I doubt it.

I also dont know how much the forum rules allow me to say, but you can find a lot of apks that wont be installable at this time through the market on specific file sharing search engines. Thats how I got the v5 copy of maps. Just search "[name] apk". Insert usual disclaimer about viruses, yata yata...

Edit: also installed the games [.] Dot and [..] dot 2 and noticed the tilt sensor(s) arnt registering correctly even though orientation works fine... odd. Its as if 1 axis does work.

I experienced the same thing once or twice. I think it's a race condition related to mounting volumes. One way to check: when your NC is in the state you describe, and connected via USB, try "adb shell". If you see this:

$ adb shell
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -

You've likely encountered the problem. I've been lucky enough to only see the error twice; rebooting worked. I'm using a Transcend 4GB class 6.

I'm sorry not to have a definitive workaround to suggest.

Hey guys

did anyone get Youtube to work? My youtube doesn't work

also

Does flash player work on FROYO? cause i really want flash player to see some porn sites

Im confused. im very serious about flash player hahaha. not going to lie

and youtube.

Bought a nook color just to do this when this first got posted and love the hell out of it. I am have a little problem getting the backup back on to the nook after update though.

Everytime I do adb push [directoryblahblahblah]/honeysd /sdcard it keeps returning cannot stat no such directory or file.
There is, mind you, but it's not finding it to push. Any ideas?
