[HOW-TO] Flashable Zip: Install Honeycomb to Internal Memory (eMMC) of Nook Color

I have HC installed, thank you for the instructions, but I've noticed a few problems. My NC was originally purchased as a book reader (of course), but I wanted more out of it. Now that I have it rooted with HC, some apps work, some don't. And, the one I wanted to work with it was NookColor app. This loads beautifully, but when trying to launch a book to read, it just hangs like it is searching for the book (at this writing, it's still doing the search, and it's been 15 minutes). I tried loading amazon's kindle, but it reboots my NC every time. I like to read, and if I can't do this, why bother.

Any suggestions?

Google Books is the only book reader that seems to work with Honeycomb. Kindle does work with Froyo...haven't tried Nook yet.

Aughhhh

I followed all the instructions and went to shut it down and now it wont start back up. It doesn't even say LOADING...:confused:

OP updated - now everything is exactly the same as on SD card (no red flashes). It's very very fast and smooth when using the overclock kernel!

(linux old-timer here)

Why all the rigamarole of mounting and deleting the files on mmcblk0p5/6 if you're going to blow away the filesystem with dd?

Super extra precautious, I guess, but yeah, may as well remove it for simplicity's sake . . .

Try the new images - should be better in pretty much every respect. Also, as now noted in the OP, never try to format an SD card on your Nook while running this. The files that were modified to run it from eMMC will also make it format your boot partition instead of your SD card. :'(

So, whenever I try this, I get to the loading screen where the word android is in the bottom left corner with a flashing green cursor, but it never boots any further. If it's relevant, whenever I am in ClockworldMod Recovery and I wipe the cache, I get the following error messages.

E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

Any ideas?

It always says that in Clockwork from SD - that isn't your problem.

Are you using the overclock kernel? If so, try the regular one, as not all Nooks will play nicely with overclocking.

If more people have problems with the DD images, I'll post an alternate method where you copy it yourself from your own honeycomb-booting SD.

I found my mistake. After typing each line of dd if=/etc. I was not aware that I needed to wait for the command prompt to confirm that the files were copied. I was continuing on before the files were even fully transfered without realizing it. I'm a total noobie to hacking/rooting devices, but I've learned my lesson. Perhaps the instructions could give a reminder to wait for each dd if=/etc. to give confirmation that the task was completed before moving on to the next step.

Glad you got it cleared up. I added a note in the OP about waiting for the DD.

OP updated - new version (v04) released - images in OP to install it to internal mem. Some app crashes fixed (Nook, Kindle) + touchscreen sensitivity around edges improved! :D

thats what i did... how can i fix it???

I was looking at these 3 images compared to the XDA image for version 4 and I was wondering where the difference in size is coming from?

The XDA image is 3.5gig and these 3 files combined are only 1.5. If you add the clockwork image to it the image size comes up only at 2.3.

Am I missing something?

This doesn't have an sd card or cache partition, the dev's image does (eMMC already has cache by default, and of course you can just pop in an SD). Plus they could be compressed differently.

I am running it on sdcard. It's blazing fast. Some of the apps are not showing up in market.

Is it possible for you to upload files to hotfile or filesonic? filefactory makes me wait 30 minutes after each download.

Thanks.

.4 is...stellar. I can't believe how smooth it is now. This runs better than froyo ever did for me.

Ok, first of all, OP, you are AMAZING! I followed your guide, i have never done anything at all with android before, it it worked like a charm. Thank you profusely for your hard work and dedication!

However, I have a problem with titanium backup, and I'm wondering if it comes from my confusion about what you mean as far as this image is already rooted...

When i load the app, it says that it doesn't have root privileges, and says this may be because of busybox, Now, do I have to do something to properly root this image? Because when I hit problems and try to download busybox, it doesn't install, it just says backup failed in the notifications area.

On a side note, is there a way to set up chrome bookmarks sync with this build? Or flash?

last question: for the new v04 build, will there be an overclocked kernel available sometime soon? if there will be, I'll wait to update my NC for that, or is the performance under the new build that much better that the OC kernel shouldn't matter? (I saw some people in here saying it was really good)

I took the steps to root before backing up the image, but it's possible something got lost along the way. If it's saying you aren't rooted, follow the instructions in the root Honeycomb thread (replacing any mentions of mmcblk1p2 with mmcblk0p5).
