How to remove shortcuts/most visited sites button in android Google chrome homepage?

On the main Google website, tap the hamburger menu icon at the upper left, then Settings. Under Discover, select Don't Show on Homepage, then scroll all the way down and tap Save.

How to remove shortcuts/most visited sites button (8 buttons on the chrome browser) in android Google chrome homepage? They appear there automatically when I open android chrome.

I have tried the steps listed in the 2 links below, but they do not work for me.

Thanks

Press and long hold your finger on the square link of the websites that you don't want showing on that page when you open a new tab. It'll replace the suggested website with another random one from your search history. Dumb that you can't remove that feature altogether, at least from what I can tell, BUUUT at least it's not pxrnhub glaring at you and everyone around you every time you want to google something. Lol.
