HOW TO: Stay stock and get rid of the bloat

Im not familiar with titanium backup because I never use it. Try root explorer

Im deleting but then how do I back out of Root Explorer and reboot to apply the deletes... I'm doing something wrong cuz they are still there after a reboot...

Titanium freezes them, root explorer deletes them. Make sure that you dont have auto-update in the market on the apps you delete.

may be a very NOOB-Ish question but, i just came from BB so i love the whole customizing and messing around and what not, BUT im still getting to know the android OS, and with all of its auto-syncing and what not......does the carrier or whoever know that your device was just ROOTED?.....ive read about the manufacture warranty being voided if rooted. But is the voiding an instant thing?....wil sprint know if that hack was done??....please go easy on me..LO>...thanks fellas!!

Nopes they can't know unless you take it in to them rooted, at which point they may refuse service, or tell you to unroot.

@igotsanevo4g,

To follow up.... I didn't try Root Explorer, but, i tried Wireless Tether (Root) just to see if I had root access after Z4. Result - negative, no root.

Titanium also uninstalls. Not sure if this is the same as Root Explorer's deleting the files, but it does more than the freeze action

Hmm, are you using the .apk i attacked on the second post?

Like i said im not familiar with titanium lol. Maybe it does uninstall, but i never looked into it i always thought i froze. Im more of a point and delete kinda guy. haha, but hey-Titanium is free so i cant knock it.

This thread is interesting to me as I HAVE been fully rooted in the past, with NAND unlocked permanently. (S-OFF). I had to unroot in order to return my EVO to Sprint for a new one due to some dead pixels.

I WAS going to wait until UnrEVOked comes out with a new version to work around the latest update. Temporary root is fine for freezing/removing the bloat, but the reboot and lose root would kill me. Therefore, I rooted, with the latest OTA the hard way.

I'd be patient and wait for a FULL root. The advantage of this is two fold, with clarification:

1. You get updates ie: 2.3 or 2.5 via a custom ROM faster than you would with an OTA update from HTC or Sprint.

2. Keep in mind that if you permanently root, you will never take another OTA. You now have FULL control over your EVO! You will have to flash a ROM, (and there are plenty of hard working people who create stock ROM's if you want over at XDA.com) and flash new ROMS for Gingerbread (and there are some out there now..just goes to show how much faster you get the goodness of Android when you're rooted!)

Peace.

EVO 4G 2.3 GINGERBREAD vers 3.70.651
Rooted (the hard way)
Stock 2.3 Rom
Free wi-fi teather (really Sprint? 30 bucks..no way)
Ad blocker (great for Angry Birds)
AND have some of the goodness of Gingerbread on one of my many Roms.

Haha I understand, I just wanted to throw it out there since it worked best for me. Free is great, but I ended up buying the full version.

I did the exact same thing and I edited my OP the other day stating as much! Tough not to go all the way after you get a taste for rooting...

Correct... The one you attached in the second post. Aren't some posters in the XDA, Z4 thread acknowledging that they aren't being successful with Hboot-2.10.001? If my recollection serves me right, I didn't have that HBOOT version prior to the latest OTA.

So, I'm at a loss here. I run z4, it does it's little dance, says it's rooted till reboot, I go into a term emulator to get su, and...No root privileges...What now?

If you did a temporary root everytime you reboot your phone you will lose root access. You want to do a permanent root. Both ways have the options to unroot or reroot if you ever have to.

It's not rooting at all. I didn't reboot the phone.

Also, permanent root with this method doesn't work for my phone. It needs a NAND unlock.

You said in your previous post that you rebooted. If you didn't then you need to. Also z4 will not always work the first time...you need to install it again.

i never said I rebooted the phone. I will reboot now and try reinstalling the app..

Youre right LOL. Its early for me but yea you need to reboot. Z4 should have actually rebooted the phone automatically after you run it.

After reboot and app reinstall, still getting permission denied. have ran it several times, and now seems to have locked up my phone on a black screen.

And now it's trying to force close the system process.

Edit: welp, that was a battery pull
