Is it even worth buying if we're on the verge of quad-core?

The premise of his question is why didn't Google + Samsung use the latest tech available? You do not except there are better CPU's and GPU's on the market?

I'm personally satisfied with the specs. As long as the price matches other phone with the same/similar hardware I'll be happy...
I do accept that there are better CPUs and GPUs on the market, but that is not really what we're discussing here. As I understand the question posed, we're discussing the very subjective question of whether it's worth buying the Nexus now vs waiting for next generation technology that will be available in quad core chips. That's why I first mentioned the next generation GPUs that will be availale with the quad core chips.

You make no sense at all, the whole point of a Nexus device is for it to be unlocked.
I was referring to the mythical "quad core device" coming in a matter of months, not the nexus. Context.

Your memory might be short but Verizon has had the first devices on both 2.0 and 3.0 (Original DROID and XOOM). Both of which were unlocked just like the Nexus will be. The DROID was basically a Nexus before they existed and we all know the Xoom is a developer tablet (same thing as a Nexus once again). So your theory is flawed right off the bat. We all know that every Nexus will be fully unlocked or it won't carry the Nexus name.
Again, see above. I wasn't TALKING about the nexus.

And no, the Droid wasn't "basically a nexus." Yes, it was a dev device, and stock android, but a Nexus also means GOOGLE not the carriers control the update. the Droid and Xoom are both tightly in Verizon (and Motorola's) hands.

My memory isn't short.

I am happy with the specs, I originally commented on this thread to ask people who are knocking the GPU /processor to tell me why they think google went with the processor they did...as opposed to comparing it to what they didn't use... Robert, above said I was being defensive, clearly not understanding the post I had written. He is irrelevant since he has missed the point of the post -multiple times - and instead of approaching the question from the way I had requested...directly accused me of being defensive.

Of course I understood your post. It was not especially difficult to understand. Your request was for those who were supposedly knocking the Nexus. I tried to tell you I am not knocking the Nexus, but you still claimed I didn't answer your question.

Within months can be 6 months or more. They don't even have the SoC in production.
You should wait until Quad Core phone shows up, then wait some more since they will probably rumor that Hexa-Core is gonna be announced "within months"...

I will be getting my first smartphone and I think it will be the Nexus. I am a little concerned about some of the hardware - I really like the look of the Razr and I really wish that the Nexus was made out of some better quality materials. However - I feel at some point you just have to pick a jumping point. There will always be something better if you wait just a bit longer - that's true of nearly everything! I think you have to really look and say : is this a good unit for me - will it do what I need it to do? Very few people actually make use of the fastest processor, and can see the difference in one display to another.

Just because Quad Cores exist it doesn't mean they'll be in a phone any time soon. I'm sure it's already been said somewhere in the 7 pages of this thread, but what can a quad core phone do that a dual core can't right now?

I understand, "the future" but how many people keep a device for 2 years? 3 years? 4??? Come on, no way. Whether people realize it or not, the Galaxy Nexus WILL be the fastest Android device out. Whether people accept it or not, the hardware Google selected for the Galaxy Nexus is the BEST hardware for ICS. Whether people like it or not, the GPU selected for the Galaxy Nexus will run EVERYTHING ICS can do, and more.

It's like I said on XDA, complaining over the hardware selected is like trying to make your race car top out at 230mph over 210mph so you can race it on a track with a top speed of 170mph.

People need to calm the heck down. ;)

Well put...besides look at the nexus one which was at the top of the speed charts with a lower clock speed on its processor than the rest...

I love android os however I think the biggest weakness with most of the devises that use it is that the software and hardware are not built with each other so they don't work that great together which is were apple kicks but at because they build both together for each other...the exception being the nexus devices and is why I want one so bad and will have this one.
