LG G4 Battery Life Thread

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

None of mine is signal, bloat, Bluetooth, wifi, LTE, it's 100% the screen. The battery can't handle what the screen pulls and it just plummets.
So you have or haven't run the debloater tool? Because my battery life majorly jumped after using it despite the screen being the biggest drain.

Are you carrier branded? Or oem unlocked? Also if you don't mind me asking, what did you debloat? 😊

I've been on vacation for the first time since buying the device and the camera is the best thing I've ever seen... But I have to charge the device multiple times a day. Good thing I have a portable battery charger xD

Here's a sample picture.

I'm T-Mobile carrier branded and debloated basically all of the T-Mobile and LG garbage. Just follow the advice of the Debloater Tool thread on XDA.

Re: LG G4 SOT

Oh, man. My phone is killing it in SOT time so far today (after re-enabling stupid *** Google+ since disabling it seemed to be causing me issues over the last few weeks but I didn't pinpoint the cause until yesterday). On pace for over 7 hours of SOT.

Brightness at 37%, device only GPS on, WiFi on, Web surfing, Chromecasting videos, etc. Basic use for me in general.

The best SOT I got was today! Take a look! You'll be amazed and blown away...!
It's at 3%

Re: LG G4 SOT

Yeah I got this today without trying. I use lux for brightness and I don't like a dim screen. Going to try out my nexus 6 tomorrow and see how it fairs with similar use.

I have used lux and didn't like it, was to agressive. Too dark indoors and sometimes not bright enough outdoors. I'll just stick with stock auto.

Re: LG G4 SOT

Compared to my note2, yes it does get great battery life. What phone are you comparing it to?

My note 2 had excellent battery life. With that said, it had a 720p screen. And that didn't use as much battery as a 2k screen.

It was probably my aging battery... I should have swapped it out long before I switched to the G4.

I swapped mine out about half way in the three years I had it. I had to get a new phone because the note 2 was dropping calls and becoming slower than normal. With the g4, I get virtually no lag.

Mine I just learned eats through 10% in 2 hours with zero of my usage in between. Left it unplugged as I was asleep and it really went from 95 to 40 when I got up. I didn't touch it at all. I feel like I got a bad battery. I went nearly 24 hours day one of owning the phone. Haven't been able to get anywhere NEAR that anymore. How could a battery degrade that fast? Something definitely feels iffy here...my old HTC one max went 36 hours, and this was a USED model. 36 hours with pretty heavy usage, and this phone kills itself in 20 if I don't touch it at all. I did notice 3G seems to stay connected and used even though I'm on wifi, and cell standby is murdering my battery, along with android system (sort of to be expected). I'm on the Verizon variant. I disabled most of their BS bloatware, but I'm still getting terrible battery life. What gives.

By any chance, do you use that Smart Location or Smart Lock? That REALLY drained my battery when I used it. Even turning it off didn't fix it. I had to completely reset it.

Re: LG G4 SOT

There you go. 100% and wasted 85% in a day with almost 4h+ sot, with 15% left (could squish little more batt for more sot but i as happy)

Re: LG G4 SOT

I've just come from a Galaxy Note 4 to a G4 (both of which have quad HD screens) and battery drain is more noticeable, but a much better overall experience, I'll live with it :-)

Plus the G3 had battery issues initially but seemed to get better after a few software updates, maybe the same will happen here.

FDR and Battery Life

I alluded in another thread to the fact I'd reached the point where my battery life had leveled off (a month and a half of GSam data had me at just over 20 hours overall and around 6 h 15 m SoT), and I then set out to see if there were ways to add even a bit more.

I am not at all disappointed with the 20 h/6:15 SoT averages, mind you. The one thing that I noted was that the average doesn't show just how wildly variable an actual day can be from the previous and the next. More than with any phone I recall using. Mainly that's the camera, and I know we can't do much about that. It's worth it, too.

So, I'm tweaking more, and one thing I did was to do my first FDR on this phone. I resent the way this is used as a fix-all instead of actually figuring out the root of a problem, so I often avoid doing them on principle. Plus, they're historically a PitA. LG Backup sure makes it far less of a project, though.

Anyway, that's a long intro to ask, after a FDR, does it still take a week or so for the battery life to "settle in?" My gut feeling is that may not even be "a thing," or at least not one anymore (people still give advice that is outdated with modern batteries). Because my overall battery life is significantly lower than where I left it before the FDR. As of today, 16 h 15 m (though SoT is actually slightly better at 6 h 35 m) with 5 full days + today & last Thursday partially. I can write off some of that to extra tinkering in getting the thing "just right" again, but I sense there's more going on. Especially since I didn't start GSam keeping track until after I'd done a lot of the setup.

Whatcha think?

Re: FDR and Battery Life

It's so hard to say...anything can affect battery life on these things! How does the LG Backup work? Do you have to reinstall all your apps or is the restore process all inclusive?

LG Backup is great. It installs settings, all the apps (LG and downloaded) ***and their data***. The caveat being, both times I've used it I've had a glitchy restored app or two. Not in obvious ways, either.

The first time, something apparently didhn't restore properly with the Fenix app for Twitter. Through much trial and error I found it was to blame for higher overall battery drain on my G4. I'm pretty sure it isn't Fenix, but something that didn't get put back just right when it was restored.

This time, I noticed in Acess Lock that a few apps kept taking back the Keep Awake and Location permissions any time I rebooted the phone. If not for Access Lock I'd have had no idea there was even anything amiss (or had the chance to restrict those permnissions anyway). So, it was nice to have the hint that something wasn't right.

If you use LG Backup, I'd just be on the lookout for stuff like that after a restore. I think the fact it puts data back as it was is worth slight incoveniences here and there.

I know it's not what you're asking, but you're getting some very impressive screen-on times.
