LG G4 Battery Life Thread

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

I had a Lumia 930 drain from the high 90's % to 3% overnight....it had powered off to protect the battery. I never fully understood the reason. Just a one-off.

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

I'm gonna turn off Wi-Fi and close all apps tonight to see if it's the issue.

If it still drains, then there is clearly something wrong with the software, but I'm pretty sure it isn't, since my G4 has been holding up pretty well after using it on the spare battery.

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

Quick update

Closed WiFi and shut off all apps.

It didn't drain the battery as much now. Slept at 100%, woke up at 95%.

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

I have got to be the absolute exception to battery issues. I don't run a lot of apps - and I kind of run lean and mean, but I charge every 48 hours - just because.

82% - discharging
Usage on battery: 22h 47min
Estimated time remaining - 91h 4 min

I haven't had battery life like this since my old BlackBerry days. It's insane.

Mine is outstanding too...I went to bed with it at 25% last night and couldn't figure out why it was so low. I'm usually at 45% after 16 hours off the charger, 4 hours of SOT, 2 on phone calls.

Is it possible you weren't connected to the power supply properly?

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

Haven't had any battery issues until today. I leave mt G4 on the charger at night and put the phone in my backpack for my 45 minute commute to work. I always get to my desk with a 100% charge. Today I took my phone out when I got to work and it was warm, which was unusual in itself, but the battery was down 5% without my having used the phone at all. Looking at the battery stats, Google Services was at the top of the list. I understand from what I've read the need to leave it running, but wonder if something new was pushed out that would cause my phone to heat up and drain the battery. Concerned.

Someone else had a similar issue and it happened so many times to the point where he had to exchange the device for an S6 Active.

You said "battery was down 5%". Does that mean your battery is down to 5% or is down by 5% (like from 100% to 95%)?

If it's the latter, that's normal. If its the former, it isn't.

Down by 5%, but as I mentioned it never happened before...always arrived at work with a 100% charge until today. Also, it was the phone heating up without it being used that got my attention.

I'm guessing it's some app gone rogue and kept the phone awake.

The screen may be off, but thanks to the way wakelocks work, the phone may not be in a low-power state.

5% over 45 minutes standby is not too bad (although unusual) and I'd say is from google location services. Check out what you've got location services set to; remember that unless you tell it otherwise, Google is always tracking your location - if it has trouble doing so it will be more of a drain.

Also, overnight turning off WIFI is likely going to be more of a drain than leaving it on.

For improved standby, clear your recent apps frequently... especially things like maps, twitter, Facebook, email apps. Those guys are always doing a lot of work when they're in the recent apps.

I found my skiing app has been going rogue the past couple of days. It's friggin JULY...geez. I guess it thinks I'm heading to Chile or something to ski. Force stop, clear cache...go away please.

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

whatever the issue was, today i arrived at my office with a 100% charge on the battery. odd little android gremlins at work.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

I just upgraded grom the LG G2 to the G4. I'm on my phone quite a bit for my job so I need something with long battery life. My G2 was great, I could use my phone throughout the day, plug it in before bed and be good for the next day. The G4 however, has terrible battery life. I charge my phone overnight, take it off the charger in the morning and it's dead 2 hours later. Today I ended up not needing to use it often, had it sitting on my desk all day, went to use it at noon and it only had 5%! I've made sure all my apps are closed and I've messed around with my settings. In the two minutes I've spent typing this, my battery has decreased 6% and my brightness is as low as possible. I'm not sure if I have a bad battery or if the G4 is known for this. If so, this phone is not a good investment. I have an appointment with Sprint on Monday, fingers crossed this particular phone just has a bad battery, because it's great other wise!

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Nothing but stellar battery life here...except the past couple of days. Haven't made it past 6 the last two days...grrrr. From 45% at bed to dead at 6:00...sigh.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

I'm getting avg to decent results so far. Biggest culprits seem to be screen brightness (which I hope freshly installed Lux will help with) and Chrome. Using Opera now and there seems to be a noticeable difference in consumption. (I do like the phone, just not thrilled about the hundreds of dollars spent on it and have to put up with silly bugs/quirks out of the box... Nature of the beast I guess)

For some reason I seem to be burning through 1% per minute. How do you find a rogue app?

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

More news.

I left my phone at 50% charge and some apps left open like Android Central, Google+, AC Forums and Gmail.

Today, I woke up to see that the battery drained to 33%.

Checking the battery stats, I found that the phone had been kept awake while I was sleeping. It showed that it kept awake for 11 hours before I slept. Android OS was the highest consumer.

(Here's the battery stats I just got. Excuse the QSlide window. I was watching it when I took the screenshot.)
