LG G4 Battery Life Thread

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

I just went and gave it another try. It was still glitchy, but it did hop around in brightness (with bigtime lag and sometimes nothing) when I moved the slider. I'll stick with Lux, which is doing a good job. As I said earlier, though, brightness doesn't seem like something I should have to reply on a third party app to control.
Mine definitely can make adjustments to auto brightness. But lg auto brightness is laggy at times.

Check your signal strength. If ur phone is constantly pinging a tower that is far away it could reduce battery life faster. Next time you are somewhere with full bar see if you get more screen time.

Well, I've gone from exasperation to elation (of sorts). Last week there were times where I didn't make it past 6:00pm and I am NOT a power user, in fact I'm probably a bore user...some weather, some camera, some gallery, text, email, phone, some web. No videos, no movies, no games, averaging maybe 2.5 to 3 hours SOT. Dead at 6:00, done, nada. Hated the phone.

Then I started the app killing routine...Chrome running amok...I mean many MBs data running wild...disabled it, good by, good riddance. Got CM browser. Disabled Hangouts and some other Google battery killing apps. Killed a bunch of VZ garbage i.e., NFL app, iMBD (really? Who cares...) and other assorted junk.

I'm running CM browser, Textra, Swift Key, and a few others.

Now I'm at 50% before bedtime...big difference. Part of my says it sucks having to kill apps to stay alive with the battery, but they were stuff I didn't use anyway. Now the power users, I'm not sure how they can deal with this phone but good luck and best wishes.

Love the phone now, a real marvel.

I'm noticing chrome is using up lots of battery. I downloaded browser. Gonna start using that!

You are not alone...I have to charge mine multiple times daily as well. I do use my phone way more than most....by that I mean....all day every day. I also think battery life may vary according to carrier. It doesn't make much sense that it should but from what I've been seeing that seems to be the case. Whatever the case may be, my battery life isn't that great....but....oh well. I still love my phone and with this removable/replaceable battery, my problem has been solved. Especially since LG just made good on their promotion and sent me a 32 gig micro sd card and an extra battery with charging case. Life is Good......lol

I got mine this past Saturday. Thus far, it looks like I'm getting a little more than 4hrs of SOT. However, the standby is the best I've seen yet on a smartphone. I disabled the bloatware I've had on past VzW phones, but learned about a few more apps to disable thanks to this thread. There are a few things with the interface that take some getting used to, after having a GS4 for the past two years. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this device.

Also, thank you for reminding me about the free battery and sd card promotion!

Same here. I am on T-Mobile. I can leave this phone alont at 100% for hours and hardly see the battery take a hit. Not like the S6 whose standby was horrible.

same here. I go to bed at 100% and when I wake about 6 - 7 hours later, I am at about 92%. I have my Garmin Vivoactive connected via BT so that is where the drain comes from.

What I am experiencing is that sometimes my phone gets HOT to the point where shut it off for 5 mins. to cool it down. I am in the process of tracking the culprit down. Either a bad outlet or a battery or my imagination.....I think the later!....LOL

In the first three days I've had my G4, the worst battery draining app has been AdGuard.

Re: T-Mobile My Account App - Battery Drain!

Still having a nightmare of a time after updating the app and turning off all notifications. Anyone else on T-Mobile and having battery/heat issues?

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

OP, where you able to fix this, or did you have to exchange for a different unit? I'm having the same issue. Anytime I start doing something power intensive, it heats up and drains the battery, even if I stop doing whatever caused it.

Mine does the same thing. Certain things heat it up, like intensive browsing (strangely, watching youtube videos doesn't heat it up), and then the battery starts to tank. And the phone doesn't cool down quickly once it's hot. So strange.

Go into the recent apps and do a "clear all"; it sucks that you have to do it, but I find that it helps immensely.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

I have been rebooting sometimes to try and clear things up. But now you got me thinking. Maybe Clear All is actually more effective, if it makes the OS actually shut down those apps. Good tip, thanks, I'll have to try that!

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

I'm on my 3rd G4 in a little over 3 weeks. The first one overheated all the time, the second one had a blown speaker, and this one is now starting to run extremely hot after light use. I'll start deleting apps, but this is getting ridiculous.

LG G4 weird standby battery drain

So this just happened to me.

I went to bed with around 95% of battery remaining. Wi-Fi off and not many apps running, so it should last the night and maybe lose about 2%. In the past, I lose about 0-3% of battery per night, so standby should be awesome on it.

When I checked my phone, however, it wouldn't wake up via KnockON. I tried to turn it on only to be greeted by a "Critically low battery. Plug it in" message and not being able to power on due to the lack of battery power.

I was actually very surprised by this since my phone shouldn't drain this much battery while sleeping throughout the night. Thankfully, I've got a spare battery so I was able to use my phone while the other was recharging.

Any potential suspects? I'm thinking it's an app gone rogue or a wakelock, but I'll continue to monitor the issue.

Some of the apps are Android Central, Google+, Music, Facebook and Gmail.

Re: LG G4 weird standby battery drain

Before starting to charge back up, did you happen to look at the Settings>Battery menu to see if any app was using an inordinate amount of battery?

This has happened to me from time to time on my various devices. Sometimes I've suspected a live wallpaper, thinking that it might get stuck trying to access the web in the middle of the night (perhaps to do a Google Play license check). But it can be hard to pinpoint.

The phone couldn't power on, so I wasn't able to find out.
