Looks like our fearless leader got a response on the reboot issue from Verizon.

Like a lot of folks, the rebooting issue happened after the OTA. From what I experienced, I haven't had a reboot while Wi-Fi is connected. The rebooting is totally random for me, and it doesn't happen on a specific application. I had it happen while using Facebook at one point, while using Twitter, and once while charging the device. Battery pull did not resolve the issue, and I'm not going to bother doing a factory reset (sounds like it's the firmware itself). This is what can happen, when an update is rushed. This should gone through some more testing before releasing the OTA.

Had 2 resets yesterday while using my headset. B4 the ota, the headset would sometimes start the music player at the completion of the call. That was cute, this is not.

Ever since I downloaded the OTA last Friday, I had multiple reboots when browsing the Market and using any sort of GPS app. While browsing the forums yesterday, a few members made the recommendation to do a few battery pulls after a reboot. Ever since then, I have been reboot free for twenty-four hours, even when using the "usual" culprits. Here's to hoping...

Both mine and my wife's thunderbolts are rebooting cconstantly, on top of other issues since the "update". Verizon is sending me two new phones without the update installed.

want to hear something crazy??? My phone isnt activated but i keep it on to play paradise island until my new thunderbolt comes today and it still reboots without even conected to the server. That is too weird. The worst part is i had to activate my storm 2 until i get my new phone. Talk about a drag...

The beauty of the OTA's is that no 2 phones respond the same...just like when you download an app. Some apps work fine on one phone, and not so good on another. I wish they could nail down a "WHY".

I got the ota when it was available and it did its thing. I had maybe 1 reboot before the ota and have have maybe 2 reboots since. I always leave my wifi turned on in my home. When I leave my house I have 3g. I am on the border of a 4g so my phone will switch back and forth.

For those with reboots - are any of you not using one of the LTE on/off programs?

I am not either. I'm completely stock, the ONLY application I have that didn't come with the phone is the original Angry Birds, that's it. My phone reboots constantly (probably 10 times a day) both when idle and when performing random tasks (SMS, voice call, Angry Birds, etc). Reboots on WiFi, 3G, 4G, 1X, etc.

The ONLY time it doesn't reboot is when plugged in, either via USB to PC, wall charger, or car charger. It seems if it's getting juice it doesn't reboot.

When my phone is plugged into the wall charger it decides on its own to power down and not come back on till i wake up late for work and manually turn it on myself............................... Im getting the f'ing DroidX2 if the 3rd phone they shipped to me does the same bull crap...

Wow. That is crazy. Maybe some type of bad code in the OTA. Well, so much for thinking I was getting a TBolt. For a minute, I thought it was an LTE issue (some type of lingering effect).

Only one reboot since upgrading

I've had my T-Bolt since mid-March. At first, I had problems connecting with the 3G network. (Here in Cody, WY, we are 500-miles from the nearest 4G city, Denver.) I was still getting pretty good download speeds even with just the 1X service. After the 4G/3G tower updates late last month, my 3G service started working just fine. However, to conserve extra battery power, I keep the mobile network connection turned off, unless I'm out of range of Wi-Fi hotspots.
I had to play around with the LTE On/Off app and find the modem setting that finally let me access the software update notice. After making sure my personal info was all backed up, I downloaded and installed the update without trouble on 5/14/11. I had to reboot the phone twice to get all the update to apparently register, but it's running smoothly. I have had one unexpected reboot of the device on 5/15/11 as I was reading an e-book, but that occured about 30-seconds after I plugged in the charger, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Since then, no problems whatsoever.
I'm still fairly conservative about my mobile connection and Wi-Fi usage, but I have noticed that my battery life does indeed seem to be improved. As of this writing, I've been unplugged from the charger for nine hours and battery power is at 86%, when before the update it would have been at between 50% and 60%.
All in all, I'm really jazzed with the Thunderbolt. I've been using HTC smartphones for almost eight years now and have never had the problems many others are reporting. Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe I just know how to set the phone correctly. Now, if we can just get HTC to push Gingerbread to us soon . . .

Thanks. Saved me having to retype.

Me too. :)

Although this is less common, I have seen Angry Birds cause a lot of power cycling issues on other Androids.

I *HIGHLY* doubt that has anything to do with this however.

Didn't reboot with Angry Birds before the OTA, but to be honest I'm willing to try anything at this point. Didn't know Angry Birds had caused cycling issues, new to Android coming from almost a decade of Blackberry. Thanks for the tip, here's to hoping it's as easy as ditching a game.

Edit: Well that was quick, no love removing Angry Birds, still rebooting. Oh well, hopefully a fix will be out soon.

Has anyone looked at the circumstances under which the download was done? Some had trouble getting it and had to force 1X mode, some got it with 3G and others with 4G.

Is there any possibility that the network method could have caused something to go wrong? I have not had a single reboot as a result of the OTA update and I was on 3G at the time it was downloaded and applied.

both my wife and i installed the OTA within a day of each other. No reboot issues before the OTA. And the only reboot since was on my Tbolt today while using Google Navigation and GPS while driving in Portland this afternoon. When i looked at the hours since reboot i calculated that this was the general time that we were driving past Portland International Airport which is the ONLY 4G area in Oregon. I'm wondering if it was at this time the phone rebooted. It is possible as the phone was not being watched continually.
