They will introduce a floating color shift.
OK, I'll bite, what's a "floating color shift"?

Hiding the notch just extends the bezel, no?
The new screen will utilize trans-flux capacitance which will detect the angle that you dangle the screen. This will in turn phase-shift the pixels and normalize the screen at any viewing angle.

In appearance yes. However, your notifications will appear to display on the bezel. In other words, the notifications will be where they normally are, but instead of the notification bar being colored as it's been shown in the leaked images, they'll have a black background. LG is doing the same thing on their ThinQ phones.
Source?Apparently the 3 XL will have the option to eliminate the notch in software. The resulting "look" will be much like the current 2 XL. That removes all the trepidation for me. I'll be ordering the 3 XL and just like this year I'll also be ordering the Google Live Protective case. Such excitement!
What will be interesting will be the quality of the 3 XL screen. Will there be a color shift?
