[Please Read 1st Post] ED01 - Samsung releases Froyo source code!

Go to that thread and read. All the info you need is there. If you have any questions, you can ask within that thread

That Link is Broken:(:(:'(

Here are some good links for you. There's no sense in doing something to alter your phone if you don't understand at least the basics of what you are doing.

Start here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/dictionary
Then here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...nate-beginners-rooting-read-me-3-17-11-a.html
Then here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...0058-how-first-time-rooting-walk-through.html
And finally here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-25-a.html

Then you will have a good knowledge base and decide which method you want to use to root and upgrade to Froyo out of those last two links.

So with this new update. Should I still root my phone and use the other froyo or can I use this one but will it still have all of the VZW bloatware?

This isn't an update! It is only source code for developers. This will most likely become the OTA that Verizon pushes out, but ther is nothing as of now.

At this point, friends, I think there is going to be an mass influx of new rooters wanting Froyo early, since they have been probably been google'ing "Fascinate Froyo Update" every hour for the last 6 months and finding articles about the Source code released, they take it as "I can get Froyo NOW!!" . Thusly they probably turn to forums like these to seek the Froyo, which is like blessed water to them, and want to rush into downloading the source thinking it's what they need.

I am starting to think that a whole new thread should be started for people as described, with the links as listed by landshark, etc, and minor education to "head them off at the pass" so to speak, like bulls rushing for open pastures of Froyoland.

Thoughts?

castanocj869 - DEFINITELY DO THIS ^

Sorry bud... but from reading your posts, you aren't even remotely close to understanding the specifices and what it takes to modify you phone. It's OK, we have all been there... but you need to put your time in and read before going any further.

All of us regulars here had the same thought which is why we tried to put together the Super thread which ended up being Sheepdog Elite's outstanding First time rooting thread. Problem is, new people have to read it, and there's no way to definitely direct them there or force them to read it. They will have tunnel vision and go right to the thread that mentions the source code. DroidXcon has numerous warnings in his ODIN thread about several things, yet we constantly see people using the no wipe package when coming from Eclair to Froyo, and downloading rom manager. If people are not going to see or read his warnings in larger, bold, red print, they are not going to take the time to read a thread warning them about not trying to download the source code. The concept of trying to warn people is a good thought, it's just the actual application of that concept that isn't possible. Even if we posted a thread with a warning, it would soon end up on page 3 of the forum because so many people have not taken the time to (same problem here) read the forum rules & guidelines and instead of posting questions in the already existing topic related thread, they start a whole new thread. Have that happen even just 10 or 15 times, and within a day the thread with the helpful info and warning is already on page 2.

Words well taken fellas, the stickies are great resources no doubt. Dont know where I would be without all the great info there. But, perhaps, the op in this thread could incorporate something telling users interested in Froyo for the Fascinate, that this source isn't what they need and kindly link them over to the stickies mentioned...people who dont know what "rooting, roms, or hacks" are may not think that is what they need, or steer clear of that forum due to lack of knowledge..thusly, they end up here with the ED01 source, with no knowledge of what they are doing

Why are you posting about the Sprint Epic in the Verizon Fascinate Froyo Source Code release thread?
