Regarding Dec. 9 no longer being the unofficial date

Will this be one of the most sloppiest of releases?

I only ask because given that product has arrived to stores...including accessories, training is finished, and that it seems like a lot of the stores (based off of posts I've seen today) still have no idea that Friday has been canceled. I know this is still a rumor since there still is no official release date. With stores still saying "we are selling it on Friday" and product actually being in stores, people are sure to actually purchase this unannounced device come Friday.

How will this work? I mean...Verizon has yet to say anything and surely they can't stop all the stores in the whole US from selling this device. I'm sure there have been breaks in the communication.

After all is said and done, you'll have people buying an unannounced phone on a day which it shouldn't have been sold.

Could this be one of the more sloppy releases by Verizon? I can't believe that they would want to delay a launch after having sent everything to stores.

Mind blowing.

Somewhere I saw someone say that they would be able to sell phones when Verizon updated the SKU in the computer. I think this is the "communication" you are looking for. I believe that the local corp. stores have not been told when they can sell them, and are running off similar rumors to what has been running these threads. Maybe their rumors come from emails they see, or phone calls or whatever, but about the same - no concrete date. So, when Joe in Dallas says he is told Friday, it is because his store thinks/hopes they will be able to sell on Friday.

I was told tomorrow by a local rep, but they were not sure. They had not been told a solid date yet.

Honestly guys and gals, I am the manager of a verizon premium retailer and with the ongoing 4g LTE outage nationwide I think the delay has something to do with that, because it is having an effect on activating new 4g devices... If they have everything back up and running I have a pretty clear indication that the 9th might be back on the table.. They just want the release to go as close to flawless as possible... and something like a 4g outage will not make that easy, is that understandable?

Totally understandable. Since the 13th was just a rumor. Maybe it popped up as in "worst case scenario" situation. "4G is having problems. Okay then, worst case scenario is we will launch the 13th if things aren't ironed out by Friday."

Know what I mean?

Oh I see. So a SKU would control it. Hopefully the stores get the message. I'd hate to be an excited customer with phone and credit card in hand only to be told at point of sale that "we just learned we can't actually sell you this device today."

Haha, what a mess!

What about the other 4g phones they are selling every day.. Bionic, RAZR, Rezound etc...

I'd bet it would be as simple as deactivating a link on the corporate system used to set up a contract for a specific model phone. An e-mail to tell sellers why it's dead followed by reversing the deactivation and another email telling them it's alive again.

As that is true, I believe the main idea behind the delay, due to the 4g issues currently going on is that they don't want to launch the nexus on a bad note.. I assure you sales on 4g devices were way down today among a lot of stores... I'm sure the 4g issue isn't the only factor behind why verizon is delaying the release, but rest assure even with any past phones for instance the bionic with it's many pushbacks and so forth it will be out and they will do it as quickly as possible. Why wouldn't they is the real question?! A much anticipated phone to make them more money, they wouldn't sit on it for too long, who would lol.

To answer that question further, they actually lock the esn's in reference to the device meaning it cannot even be activated until they give the go ahead. So you're on the right track.

Just a few more days, friends! It won't kill us. On the other hand, I do think it would be appropriate for the customers, Samsung, and Google to know why it took so long for Verizon to release this phone.

Of course as far back as 10/23
A few more days won't kill anybody though. Just a thought I had.

And on 10/27
Looks like all the early November talk we've been holding into for over a month isn't panning out. Disappointing, but that's life with Verizon.

I'll have to live with a broken Droid for a few more days.

11/6
Come on it's just a few more days.

Some retailers in Europe are seeing delays to the 21st as well.

11/16
Yeah you can include me on this as well. I think its best to just drop the anxiety and let it run its coarse at this point. Ive dealt with a horrible phone for the past two months, i can do it for a few more days.

12/4
Just a few more days. Hang in there!

Sorry. Couldn't help myself

If the delay is much longer than expected, do you think they'll run the double data promotion longer? Cause that's the main reason I'm jumping on a new phone now.

It will be out before the double data promo is over I can pretty much gaurantee you that, cuz it doesn't end til christmas. And it's VERY unlikely they'll push this phone that much further.

Oh really? I was afraid it was gonna end on the 15th cause that's what Amazon said on their site. Maybe it just ends for Amazon on the 15th...

i have my tpu-cases.com case in hand, and im oh-so-much admiring how awesome it could be by Friday. however it sounds like it will be sometime next week :(

thanks for all the tips from you VZW employees or whatever it is you might be!

It should really be on the 9th, buddy of mine that works at verizon said that they have about 16 of them in his store and they have had them for a couple days now.

That was before the unforeseen turn of events happened.

Regards why other 4g units (Razr, Rezound, etc) will likely continue sales even during the network issue is pretty straight forward. The GN's are requiring an immediate OTA upgrade (read within 2 hours of activation) to 4.1 or whatever.

That info was in print as we headed towards the 9th and before the outtage. If the GN's require the immediate upgrade to function properly when the network is running normally, how can they logically sell them until the network is stabilized?

The 4.1 upgrade supposedly includes a re-coded LTE radio function so as porked off as the added delay makes me personally, I can see how the outtage would require at least a pause on any launch plans.

VZW has already used up any good will they had from not saying anything when it was a marketing ploy to delay things. The last thing I want is to go buy the phone I'll be using for the next year (at minimum) and have it not work right out of the box.

Just my 2 cents on this whole pile of fertilyzer.

I heard that Verizon execs have been reading the forums and decided to delay GN to see if all of those people who are threatening to leave Verizon actually do it and also shut down the 4G network to really get those people pissed off. Verizon wants to cut back on the load on their network and they figured this would be easier than sending out their goons to kill random 4G customers. That's what I heard.

Yeah my Incredible is acting up, but it's nothing I can't live with. At least I have a good phone. Also this can't be as bad as waiting for the Incredible to ship when it was on backorder. I remember following the thread on AC every day comparing the dates people got their phones to the dates they ordered them. That was torturous.
