Regarding Dec. 9 no longer being the unofficial date

Just heard from a engineer friend at VZW that they were ordered to kill 4G and blame it on an unknown problem so they could delay the nexus for another week.

:'(
great post all the spergers on this site bit it hook line and sinker

There is a thread on /r/Android (Reddit) about this whole delay issue. A user chimed in regarding the possible problem. He is well respected on that subreddit and for the most part has been dead on.

Nonetheless take it however you want it.

The user mentions that the delay came out of no where, that it caught everyone off guard. It has nothing to do with the 4G issues lately, but has everything to do with last minute software changes, changes not by Verizon, but by Google. The user mentions he has no idea why or what changes are being made, but they are indeed software changes. Too much dust in the air right now, by tomorrow (Thursday the 8th) things will clear up. He mentions that we are roughly one weeks away from launch at this point. If this is true, then Tuesday the 13th of next week may be when it hits.

The question of why can't these be done via OTA update came up and to be straight he mentions that he has no idea why.

And so continues the enigma of the Galaxy Nexus. More mysterious than Sasquatch riding the Lochness Monster while in a spaceship over Area 51.

It really irritates me too. As much as I would prefer that all the bugs are dealt with, I'm working from a deadline. I, thinking the Gnex was right around the corner, decided to pull the trigger on the Rezound with the idea I'd compare them and if I wanted the Nexus exchange the Rezound. After having it for a couple weeks, I'm really wanting to return it for the Gnex. Only problem is that I bought it launch day, so it needs to come out by December 14th or I'm stuck. I don't think Best Buy will let me exchange the Rezound for, say the Razr, only to turn around and exchange it again 2 weeks later. I think you can only return/exchange within 30days of original purchase. Guess I'll run down to Best Buy early next week and talk to them just to see what they can recommend.

Yeah my Incredible is acting up, but it's nothing I can't live with. At least I have a good phone. Also this can't be as bad as waiting for the Incredible to ship when it was on backorder. I remember following the thread on AC every day comparing the dates people got their phones to the dates they ordered them. That was torturous.

Ahhh I remember those days. That was exactly why I joined the forums haha. I think that was 10x worse honestly because it was out but you just couldn't get it. At least this is just no one at all has it and not some people do but you need to pay 3x the price because there isn't enough. Oh well the only thing that sucks for me is it is all happening around my finals so I have to try extremely hard not to procrastinate and refresh every Android site on my bookmarks every 5 minutes.

I've got finals too :(

But at least I have all the hard ones out of the way. The next few weeks are going to be good no matter what though, having a break plus the Nexus soon.

We'll know tomorrow. I think its highly likely verizon will say SOMETHING, even if its just to announce the date for next week.

hah! verizon announce a date? that'll be the day!

ok jk. yes i too hope we get some good and concrete news tomorrow. but i'm expecting nothing but rumors that will eventually be shot down and more waiting. sigh...

Stores aren't going to be hanging onto those phones for an entire week.
At least, I doubt it. If I had to guess I'd say Monday, perhaps with 4.1 pre-loaded.

Isn't it a huge security liability for Verizon to have hundreds of thousands of brand new phones just sitting in every single store with no plans for them within a day or two? I would think they could seriously lose some inventory or something. I dunno. Just seems like a VERY late and uncomfortable delay for all involved!

I really don't see Verizon holding this phone back more than a few days as kath00 said. It's 100% confirmed that many stores already have inventory and were ready to sell them on Friday. It has to be real close, hopefully by Monday we'll at least know something official.

This just really bothers me. I was so excited for tomorrow. I wanted this phone for 2 days before I'm in the bahamas. When I get back, I have 3 days to make a decision to keep verizon and this phone because i have to fly to chicago. It's just very annoying to me. Unless, i can change over my phone number and everything in chicago.

I was complaining to everyone about how everyone here was whining but now I understand. It took me longer. I think December 9th was the tipping point for me but now I understand why so many people here are frustrated. It just drives me insane how horrible the testing group at verizion is. And not only Verizon but Google. If you wanted to make a splash, you should of taken care of your U.S. Carrier. What I mean by that is, Verizon knew about a LTE google phone and yet, google should of worked with these testers early with the coverage to make sure everything was indeed working. From the moment the galaxy nexus was launched, we have to wait 2 months. This is UNREAL! Did verizon have to teach these monkeys what a cell phone is? It's not hard to create a testing model and follow through.

if there is a bug I understand, but to delay it after its in everyone's stores is unreal. It's too late now and verizon should just release it to save face. I mean they don't even think its gonna be successful with them promoting the droid 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, infinity, awesome, super, crazy, bold, sharp, Razr, Razr 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Razr R2D2 edition. So why put so much effort in delaying?

I really want to move to Verizon and try this phone. But My biggest worry is that this will be my last phone on verizon. I worry about the next google phone or next verizon phone. Their control is very ridiculous and now I understand what other verizon customers are talking about. But who am I gonna go to? T-mobile...blah. Att...I just left them, I'm not going back unless its unlmited data. And sprint, is just too spotty and I don' t want this phone in May or June or July.

I'm stuck here in Verizon's control and it feels hopeless. But I'll be patient and try to calm myself, because in the end, its just a phone. It's just an amazing phone and eventually, my cube neighbor will think im crazy because I keep asking to see his Galaxy nexus. (yes, UK model).

Cmon Santa, do some magic.

*yawn* there are much better phones out there right now. I wouldn't wait too long folks. I'm not.

Maybe VZW PTB's are reading these boards and have decided to wait to release the phone until the day after your phone "rentals" turn into ownership. Just sayin.

It won't happen, but I wish. We and everyone on Verizon who is frustrated with them could just leave them. Just to see their faces. Just to understand, you can't treat us this way and to make them say, we screwed up. I would love to see it.

But not in a million years would that happen.

So has the LTE outage been fixed? Yesterday afternoon, I couldn't even hold on to a 1X connection, but this morning, I'm back on 4G.

Another poster in a different thread mentioned that with the spotty 4G outages, and the fact that every Nexus is sitting on an update as soon as it's activated, may be the reason for a delay until the outages are corrected. They don't want to push out an update with the outage, and don't want to release the phone without pushing the update. Make sense?
