Re: [ROM] gROM 1.1.5 - 9/27/11 - GB 2.3.3 - Lets Rock!

But have you tried the latest one...

Its infrastructure mode now. I use it in my Evo 3D ROMS and people enjoy it. I have not had the time to try it on Optimus S yet but it should work.

OK, which one? By who?

Thanks in advance

Re: [ROM] gROM 1.1.5 - 9/27/11 - GB 2.3.3 - Lets Rock!

WiFi Tether for Root Users - v3.1b6 supports infrastructure mode + WPA2, although it crashes your phone (reboots) when you try to stop tethering... Otherwise good speeds and faster than the native tethering (also it is much faster to get a DHCP address compared to the native tethering)

Interesting, did you have to make any special settings to get it to work? I know on the E3D, you have to select, MSS Clamping and HTC Routing fix.

The one we are talking about is the later version of the one I include din the ROM. You can find it here (as well as prior versions): Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting
The only reason I choose to go with the older version is I know for a fact it works well with this device. I dont have service on this phone so I cant test telephony functionality without doing an ESN swap with my E3D... And thats a lot of work, lol

Why dont you test it out and let us know how it goes...

Sweet!
Got it working. No crashing either (so far).
I run a laptop and a Transformer tablet off the tether when I'm in my vehicle and with an adhoc, they don't connect automatically like they do with an infrastructure network.
Thanks!!

Yeah, I know. Some devices just dont like Ad-Hoc.

The new version works well. Been putting in Evo 3D ROM's and get good feedback. I never use it myself. Only in emergencies when when internet goes out and thats not very often.

I put it in gROM 1.2 so now its all inclusive.

Re: [ROM] gROM 1.2 -10/2/11- GB 2.3.3 -Tuned to perfection! O/C-a

For me I had to switch the setup type to netd for it to setup as Infrastructure mode (+WPA), but doing so will make the phone crash when tethering is stopped. Doing wext is okay, but you only get ad-hoc.

Is ext4 supported in 1.2?

There have have been no changed to ext4 support in version 1.2. That is forthcoming and noted as such in post #3. I just got some info I needed this morning ;) (Thanks Drew!)

Thank you,

I used netd also but run it "open" with access control. No crashes yet.
I only use it when I'm out working and I'm usually moving around quite a bit.

Looking forward to a "field test" tomorrow.

Re: [ROM] gROM 1.2 -10/2/11- GB 2.3.3 -Tuned to perfection! O/C-a

I'm not sure what's causing this but ever since using this ROM, if the phone is on for about 12-24 hours at random all the apps just start crashing. Launcher, messenger, keyboard, everything. The phone freezes for up to 2 minutes at a time until I reboot it at which point it works fine again. Why?

Also does the ROM have to be in the /000root folder on the SD card or can it just be on the SD card. Xionia lets you flash from anywhere on the card so does it really matter?

Without seeing its just a guess....

  • You did not do a complete wipe before flashing or you restored previous system data with TI Back up or an app similar to
  • You have program that is bugging out with the new version of Gingerbread
  • You have bad hardware.
What all steps did you take to install it? Did you restore anything? Also, have you tried clear all data / factory reset and reflash?

The ROM can be anywhere. I actually flash it from /SDCard/ROMS/xxxxxxxxx.zip

I wiped before flashing (although not before using my nandroid to go back to stock). It did it on the stock firmware as well although to be fair, I installed the exact same apps that your ROM had so it could be one of them. I doubt it's hardware since this never happened before I did all the rooting nonsense necessary to get here.

There were a few other weird things with 1.1 as well for me like for example on the home screen the phone and browser buttons were white instead of green as they should have been. But regardless I'll see if it happens on 1.2.

So what you experienced happened on the stock ROM as well? Ok that narrows it down significantly. It has to be an incompatible app or bad hardware now. Prolly an app like you think.

As far as the browser buttons... Thats not weird, lol, that was by "design" The first iteration, 1.0, had an issue with the launcher. It was a GB launcher but it was causing an issue with Icon alignment. The colors were correct. Release 1.1 had a stock Froyo look. Release 1.1.5 and 1.2 have the stock GB look. That was more of an oversight on my part :-[ But yeah, now you should be seeing the normal GB colored icons. And if you look real close you will also note that I have rounded corners on my launcher and not the square GB ones. :-X

I'm really digging the new animation you put in when the screen goes to sleep, the first time it happened I thought my phone died or something XD
