Thunderbolt Pre Announcement Waiting Room & Availability Thread.

Hey Phil, sorry your sources ended up being incorrect...I thank you for getting the source in the first place. I reckon it is highly possible something happened after the source gave you the date...and the decision to wait was made and they did not know!

But just for giggles...give him a buzz and see if he has heard of the new date. Come on bro! In for a penny, in for a pound....see if he/she knows why they are waiting too....It doesn't hurt to ask, and you can blame me!

from the VZW facebook page

"Fans, thanks for your enthusiasm surrounding the ThunderBolt by HTC! Unfortunately, a message was posted on our wall early this morning from an unauthorized fan page posing as Verizon Wireless. The comment has been deleted and we are sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Please stay tuned for any new information surrounding the much anticipated release of the ThunderBolt by HTC!"

VZW has been good to me. So I'll not bash them at all. I emailed them a while ago to ask if they could change my NE2 date up so I could get the Droid X. This is before I decided on the TB.

The rep emailed back, moved my NE2 up a month. He just called today to ask if I needed help ordering the Droid X. I told him I appreciate his service and that I'm waiting for TB

So, while this release is frustrating, I still have only good things to say about VZW. Their customer service has always been helpful and nice. Plus good coverage.

i should have got a nexus s when i had the chance. this is gettin old an worries me about gettin the phone now. i have to get something by mid march

Should I get a Droid X or Droid Incredible? Is the Incredible HtC?

Yes the Inc is HTC. It's probably one of the most highly held phones of today, but it's getting outdated pretty quickly. I wouldn't use a 2-yr upgrade on it, but that's just me.

I'm going to get the Incredible tomorrow (Moto = no thanks) and hope that the TBolt comes out in 14 days. You could always return whatever you buy and wait another week or two if the Bolt isn't out within 14 days too, but you'll have to pay a restocking fee.

Not to sound like a jerk, but you never want to put yourself in a position of not having a phone (if you really need it) because you're waiting for "Phone X" to come out, etc.

Problems can come up in technology. Dates can be pushed back. Waiting for a phone you saw at CES with no firm date announced for release... not a good agenda.

On a better note, if you are serious about not wanting to wait at this point, don't forget AmazonWireless: Cell Phones and Plans . You can pick up the Droid X or Droid Incredible for a mere penny with a 2 year agreement (if you can handle 2 years, which is an eternity now a days).

Maybe it won't be tomorrow, but I'm willing to bet by the end of March I'll have a HTC Thunderbolt in my hands that is fast as heck both hardware wise and internet wise (I live in a 4G ready market). It'll be nice to have the ability to stream video and load web pages near instantly anywhere I am. To me, the wait is worth it, and I've never expected the device before March anyhow, based on the statements of Q1 from CES.

His source was probably right at the time. It looks like the problems with the phone were only detected recently.

not be an ass. but if best buy in new york new york doesnt get the bolt. i highly dount the best buy in portland oregon gets the bolt. no need for everyone to waste time an call best buy. verizon has the final say on shipping these things out.

UPS and FedEx have always gone from 9AM until 7PM, unless it's recently been switched (as in the last couple months). Plus there's non-regular hours.

I wouldn't factor this into anything personally.

I work for Fedex Express and have been working for them for over 10 years. Routes normally leaving the station around 9am. These are the delivery routes. The majority of the delivery routes return to the building by 4pm. Between 230 and 330 the majority of the pickup routes leave the building. They primarily do pickups and return to the building between 700 and 800pm.
The phones would be delivered by 330pm if they chose standard delivery and by 1030am if they chose priority. Of course shipments can be delayed in our system due to an "act of god" (ie huge snow storm etc) but it's unlikely.

You do understand that Verizon doesn't ship them using regular Fed-ex or UPS, right? They would be using the Freight services for both of them, which would include delivery at any time the contract they have with Verizon says. This would likely include after-hours delivery so they could do it when the store is closed.

This isn't entirely correct.
Fedex Freight handles items that are 150+ lbs. A freight driver wouldn't deliver say... 18 6oz phones to a verizon store.

And to them I tweeted back "#ReleasetheThunderbolt and no, to other topics." Doubt it does anything more than make me feel better!

Another cagey, wise-guy remark from out favorite Twitter feed

Ugh. If they shared our excitement, maybe they'd say something better.

Jesus, seriously guys? It simply will not be available tomorrow. Time to play Xbox or something in the meantime, turn the page already.
