Thunderbolt Pre Announcement Waiting Room & Availability Thread.

Just spoke with a verizon rep at the mall and this is what I got out of them:

-To my surprise, the rep flat out told me the delay was because of the iphone
-he said they are expecting shipments soon and are going to sell them anytime between the 19th-28th.
-he took down my name and number and said he would call me once the system displays a firm release date and he will have two set aside for me

I then asked about 4G prices and got this out of him

-4G wont be functional at launch
-He said if I buy the phone a few months later I can buy a 4g activation kit, which will be a sim card for the 4G service sent in the mail
-4G data will be an additional cost on top of the $30/month unlimited 3G
-it will be tiered pricing, no unlimited option

Was this guy in a kiosk? If so, I don't believe anything he says.

I was just given these dates by someone who is familiar with the calendar -- 2/16, 4/25, and 5/18. Just to confirm, these are all dates, and I have verified they are on my calendar.

LMAO

I just did the same thing..............great minds think alike.

from videos i've seen the phone cannot be activated without the LTE sim card so i think that proves the statement wrong about no 4G at launch

I do know it does require a sim card. So right now that's the only part I'll believe....not doubting you mkh.:D

When I was in a VZW store last week, I was asking about how that works with a 4G phone coming out, but my area is not expected to have 4G service until mid-year. I also questioned pricing for 4G LTE data plan.

The VZW rep told me, the phone would work on the 3G network and that once 4G LTE was in my area, it would automatically start working on the 4G LTE network.

She also told me that while pricing probably will change at some point down the road, if I end up with the TB before that pricing changes, I will be locked in at the price I got when I signed the contract for the phone even though my service would upgrade to 4G when it becomes available here. She also said, areas that already have 4G LTE service are currently not paying more than I am - the plans are the same nationwide.

Anyways, not sure how much of this is true... just thought I would share.

Where did you see that? I saw videos that stated the SIM card was required for 4G service, but not that the phone couldn't be activated on the VZW network at all without one.

Yeah, I'm thinking this is just another shot in the dark. I can wait til next Thursday, I've come to terms with that

My thoughts exactly. For what its worth, local BB also got an email from their rep this morning corroborating the dates. Can any bbm employees confirm?

I'm just sharing what I heard with you guys

last week when I was at best buy they told me the 4G would be at no additional cost $30 for unlimited 4G/3G

I'm really sick of getting a different story from each person I speak with.

If there was a way to get bak at VZW for this i'd be on board...

I think what he's referring to is in the WireFly vids, the screen says "No Sim Card, Emergency Calls Only." So either you need a sim for activation or those 2 messages are unrelated.

maybe the wirefly guy had no sim card installed and he also didnt preform a normal activation on the phone

If they are going to charge differently for 4G i would assume they would give the device owner the ability to opt out and just use 3G

and what if you don't live in a 4G area, you would be able to activate the phone at all??

...i think its safe to assume they are both separate

No offense, MK...and I hope you get your phones soon, but I'm saying that VZ rep was full of horse dookey.
The only thing I've seen thus far is you will need a SIM card to use 4G.

If they launched this phone without the capacity to do LTE (if you live in a LTE area...granted) that would be like buying a new Mercedes with an Air Conditioning button...but the salesmen saying in a few months we'll put the parts in the car for that to work....

one of the wirefly videos i'm pretty sure bob said i have no sim card so i wont be activating 4G or 3G for that matter pretty sure he clarified that after by saying it was needed to activate the phone i'd have to go through the videos again verify but i'm pretty sure that sim card is needed now that don't necassarily mean they dont have certain sims that allow phone activation with 4g not active but sounds very unlikely
