Thunderbolt Pre Announcement Waiting Room & Availability Thread.

the delay (if it's true) likely has nothing to do with the hardware itself. Verizon has been working 24/7 to get the LTE network up to snuff.

As BMX has said in the past, "you can't rush new tech" .. Aircards and phones, while they might both be LTE/CDMA/whatever devices, interact with the network differently.

For example, an LTE aircard likely won't need to perform a handoff when switching towers. Most aircard usage is going to be stationary. (I cite this example because the delay from the 14th was rumored to be due to a problem with LTE tower handoffs)

verizon has a lot riding on this phone. they really can't afford to have the launch fail. they're not going to release it until the network is ready.

I agree with this in principle. The problem I have is that Verizon CHOSE to show the phone off at CES, They CHOSE to flaunt a Q1 release, and then they tweeted on their official Twitter that it could come "Sooner than expected"

First, had they said 2011 and left it at that, none of this wild speculation and hysteria would be happening. Second, if they would "officially" Tweet, Press Release... ANYTHING that it was "Still on schedule for a Q1 launch" or "First/last week of _____" or even a date (Even March __th) we could stop all the hoopla and sit back and wait. They started the madness by opening their mouths, and now they won't say anything to stop it. Instead they let the advertising blitz start and stay mum.

I had a Droid X, and it was riddled with problems at launch. I had a Fascinate, and it's STILL having problems (there's a new one each week!) and I'm quickly souring on this phone, because I don't want to be a "Beta Tester" again. They creating their own problems by saying something, and now those problems are festering because they wont say ANYTHING

well put

C'mon VZW, let me give you $250 already! Why are they making it so difficult.

It does seem strange. Twilight Zone-ish.

First quarter ends on March 31, so coming early is anything earlier than that date. I do agree that it is time for them to say something. I also would guess that they know this which is why I suspect to hear something between now and Monday but either way its only a phone and I wont be getting my panties in a bunch about it.

I'm not getting my panties in a bunch, but I swore off Verizon 10 years ago. I came back 6 months ago, and it's the same old games. The Droid X 2.2 update was "Summer", "Summer", "Summer" They released it on September 22nd, the last CALENDAR day of "Summer", thus technically meeting their deadline. Look at that this way: Your car is broken down, and you need a ride to the grocery store. I tell you I will do it tomorrow, then show up at 11:59:59. I've kept my word, right?

I've been through so much BS with Verizon since June that they have sent me TWO replacement phones (different phones) and offered to let me out of my contract with no ETF. I keep sticking around, hoping that sooner or later they will get their act together...

Verizon Rep accidentally stated 2/28/11 for release

So I called in & told the rep girl I wanted to add a 5th line to my account and another Ipad just to set up the idea in her head I was ready to spend money. I asked about the ipad which was in stock & then told her I need to open an account for the HTC Thunderboldt ... Her reply, while scanning her computer, was "hmmm...I dont think...hold on please...Im sorry that phone has not officially been released yet, But It Is showing in our systems that it is scheduled for a 2/28/11 release " ...

I called back & spoke with a Guy in sales who immedaitely said "its expected to be released on the 24th and preorders should be available a few days before, I asked "Is that what the computer says?" he replied "Im just familiar with the date because Im waiting on that phone too for myself"

Atleast she stated what she saw in her computer, So take that with a grain...but hey it does not hurt to add to these other speculations right?

all this reminds me of the time I had waiting for the original Storm (HAHA)..it seemed like forever...I think we at least had a release date almost a month before hand tho...maybe 2 weeks

Well, not to add fuel to the fire, but I just got back from our local Verizon store. I was there to make an exchange, and asked the rep about the TB. She said it's the 24th. She said their HTC rep was in yesterday morning, and told her it was the 24th.

Take it for what you will.

Just to add my VZW retail experience in, I stopped in one today because it was on the way to visit a client, keeping in mind how much water I let a retail rep hold.

The guy told me it was the 24th firm. I told him about delays and rumors, and he said they always release on a Thursday, and the 10th was iPhone, the 17th was in Home Connect, and the Thunderbolt is up next.

I also asked him if one year contracts will be available and he said, "without a doubt".

So, whatever, my hopes aren't up or down. I don't let much amp me up or weigh me down that I can't control, so I'll keep watch and look on the 24th.

So I just called Verizon to inquire about voice/data/text rates while I'm in Canada this weekend and I threw out the old "heard anything on a bolt release date?". He proceeded to tell me it is now March due to the iPhone craze. Hopefully yet another CSR that doesn't know what they're talking about when it comes to the TB.... hopefully.

Lol what iPhone craze? haha

I'll add my verizon experience too. They said without hesitation the 24th, they even let me play with a dummy unit (it was awesome!!). The rep was really excited about it but of course I still felt like I knew more about the whole situation lol...
