V30: A hit or a dud?

Honestly, the lack of activity in this forum has me thinking that the V30 will be a dud regarding sales. If phone nerds can't get excited for a well-speced device, I'm thinking the general population will hardly be aware of it's release, especially with Pixel, iPhone, and residual Samsung dust clouding the field.
I also think that LG's poor handling of it's marketing of the phone will also put a dent in sales.
That said, I think this increases the probability of deals (even outside of he BOGOs announced) and price cuts relatively soon, which is a plus.

What are your thoughts?

The last LG phone I actually saw a. stranger using was a G4. I have a V20. I have never seen another, not one, in the wild. Never even saw a customer look at one. I have never seen a G6 outside of a store and never expect to see a V30. I bet they sell a lot in Asia. (poor man's Note 8)

I was drawn to v20 by things long gone in G6 and V30 so I wouldn't take one for free if I only had one phone line. I'd use a free one at home as a wifi only alarm clock.

Not much more for folks like me to say that I have not in similar threads we have had on the V30 here, and there won't be much more to say until folks start getting phones in their hands.

Pretty much everything you said: poor marketing, poor release strategy. They do this all the time and never seem to learn from other makers with greater success than LG. I like their phones (I was spared the bootloop tragedy on my phones), but it gets frustrating knowing they will announce a phone, then do nothing to promote its release. They will also restrict features to different markets and/or remove popular accessories (the headphones in a phone characterized as an audiophile's device? Seriously?). They somehow manage to shoot themselves in the foot.

Diehards like me, sure I will probably get the phone. But when someone asks what phone I have, responding with an LG brand usually results in looks of confusion. That speaks to brand recognition.

I mean at least give people a chance to get the phone first. This is really LG's fault. There were several threads in excitement over the V30 but as usual LG played the waiting and no information game and all we could really do was wait. This week sales go live in the US.

I was initially quite keen on the V30 but lost all interest in it, the price is extremely high for the specs and it's only available here from a retailer who likely won't discount it nor is it one I want to buy from. It looks a solid phone but for the same price I can get a Note 8 which has the better screen and cameras (I have a dedicated DAP for high quality music) or save a couple of hundred pounds and get an S8+. If they'd produced the V30 with the same design as the V20 but an updated camera, processor and screen (and released it in the UK for a reasonable price) I'd have likely snapped it up but as it is, there's little reason I can see to buy one.

Extremely high you say? $800 is very reasonable considering you get everything the competition offers and more when you get down to the multimedia capabilities. The $999 iPhone X doesn't even have a headphone jack. The new Pixel phones will still only have one camera sensor. The V30 offers a lot for the price and still is cheaper than the rest.

How much activity do you see in the Pixel 2 forum? The V30 is still in pre-release. Most of the questions that can be asked and answered without shipping phones has been asked. Most now are in a waiting mode. As soon as the V30 is released this forum will be very busy.

well iam sure V30 will create a better buzz than G6 did...its best looking phone by Lg and had best specs of 2017...iam sure after 1 month or more prices will drop...i bet lot of people are buying G6 after price drop...i think V30 will do good sales..i also mite jump from G6 to V30

It's going to be a sleeper hit. People opt for the more popular phones, not necessarily the ones that are great. Some people don't even know LG phones exist, all they know and see are iPhones/Samsungs. It's getting released later than the popular phones but still, real fans will wait for it.

That's with deals and special offers. In that case yeah it's expensive but again compared to everything else that's new, without including trade-ins and deals, the V30 is the best option price wise.

new 1.6 aperture 16MP camera (world's first)
13MP wide angle (only phone with wide angle)
Improved DAC from last year (only phone with DAC)

Nice curves but not on the actual display

People don't know how good LG is. The DAC and wide angle plus the only flagship with 16MP 1.6 aperture? Should be worth more than Samsung. The only thing is Note 8 has 6GB of RAM which might be a battery killer.

I like to see the results of the DxOMark rating on the V30 camera.
I've got a Pixel XL now, and the camera on it is quite amazing. Don't want to take a step back on that front.
I owned a G2 back in the day, and it was wonderful.

Well, for a flagship to be released tomorrow, it is the quietest lead up to release I have ever seen. Nothing. No final reviews (I am not including the prerelease reviews that are all over you tube), no commercials, nothing. I cannot remember another phone handling a release like this.

The more the V30 is a dud, the better for folks serious about buying it because they will be able to get stellar deals. It is available in South Korea. I wonder if Google had a non compete contract about dropping the V30 in the USA prior to the Pixel 2 announcement.

I got the V20 for $672, and have more features than the V30. So yeah, I can see $800 being way overpriced in my opinion.

But the V20 also has less features as well. Missing waterproof. Missing wireless charging. They both lose or gain two features the other one doesn't have. I think I might keep the V20 after all anyway.

The LG forums have always been fairly quiet, even right up to launch date. The one thing I always look forward to though is the picture threads. Plus they are usually more interesting pictures, not just people's pets and whatever they had for dinner. I love LG cameras, I've had every flagship since the G4 and I'll probably get the V30 some time this year.

All of which could be considered a trade-off at best, so still paying a lot more for an equal package. Or for many prior V series users, a lesser overall package.
