What should su + busybox file look like in the downloads of my pc. In folder or what. I think this is where I am getting into trouble. I really do not know if this file is downloaded or not. Thanks again in advance

Ok Mr. Landshark I have finally got that su + busybox file onto the root of my sd card. Hurray for me. Now is when this stuff gets scary.

As soon as I clicked on the su file in cwm I saw no yes to click and now all i see is no files found in white and and android/ at the top in red. above that it says choose a zip to apply.

I went through all the steps as outlined and I have rebooted, however, I do not see a superuser logo that everyone talks about. I guess I had a failure.

I still believe that somewhere and somehow, I have not downloaded the su-busybox file, maybe the wrong version. Yes they are in my downloads on my PC, some are zipped and one is not. Is is time for to Punt?

Well It looks like I have been left hanging out here all by myself. I came to within one click of a root and just could not get past that su-busybox file. So I "punted" and went back into blue recovery and decided to make a go at it after I have read a little more. I sure hope that I have not offended anyone along the way.

Sorry, I haven't had much of a chance to get back to the computer in a while. I have read back a little bit to see where you are at. If you are back at stock blue recovery we need to get you back on the proper recovery in order to flash the su + busybox file. How did you transfer the su + busybox file to your phone? Did you leave it in tact and not try to unzip it? It almost sounds like your computer may be automatically uzipping the file so we will need to correct that before proceeding.

Lets start here: In my downloads in my computer I have files that are su-busybox zipped. When I open this file I get three things: Meta Inf System Install busybox. These folders are within the su file on the downloads of my computer. I transferred that file to the root of sd card, by dragging and dropping. I mean to the root, I just dropped it an open area of the file, not into any folder as such. After I went through all the step and just after I scrolled and selected the su file in red recovery and was then expecting to see a "yes" to select, according to your directive, never did find that. SO I THEN PUNTED.

Ok, so just to make sure, you dragged and dropped the entire su + busybox file as it was from the downloads folder to the sd card on the phone? If so that is the correct thing to do. Make sure you don't unzip or open the su + busybox file. Leave it in tact and drag and drop that file onto the sd card on the phone.
Then when you booted to rec CWM you used the volume buttons to scroll to "install zip from sd card", hit the power button, scrolled to "choose zip from sd card", hit the power button, scrolled to the su + busybox file, hit the power button, and at this point you were not taken to a screen with a bunch of no's and one yes - install su + busybox. Is all that correct?

Mr. landshark, to tell you the truth, I had a number of download files with su-busybox on my pc downloads that I really don't know which one that I put of the sd card. I do know that I had 2 zipped and two folders and a couple were unzipped. I think that I will repeat the whole process and just use the zipped one to the sd card. Then see what happens. Why I am reluctant to do that now is because it takes a long time to get back into ED04 stock if it fails.

Ok, if you are still stock and your phone has rebooted at all, you do not have the correct CWM in order to flash the su + busybox file. I know you probably have followed these steps, but you will need to do exactly this again in order to do flash the root file

1. power down phone
2. pull battery
3. open ODIN on your computer
4. plug USB cord into USB port in back of computer
5. plug phone into USB cord while holding the volume down button. You should see a yellow triangle on the phone and the far left small rectangle in ODIN should turn yellow and show a com port #
6. click the PDA button and navigate to your downloads folder on your computer where you should have this CWM file - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36791/CWM3_Voodoo.tar.md5 downloaded. Do not unzip or unrar this file, just leave it as is and double click on it to populate the PDA box
7. click the start button on ODIN. This flash should only take 7 seconds
8. close odin, pull the usb cord from the phone, put battery back in but do not power the phone on
9. hold volume up, volume down, and power buttons at the same time until samsung logo flashes for the second time. As soon as you see the samsung logo flash the second time, let go of all 3 buttons
10. Your phone should go directly to CWM 3.0 and you should have red script on the page and across the top you should see CWM voodoo lag fix recovery v 3.0.xx ti
11. use the volume down button to scroll to install zip from sd card, hit the power button
12 scroll to choose zip from sd card, hit the power button
13. scroll to the su + busybox zip file, hit the power button
14. scroll to the yes option, hit the power button
15. wait for the file to finish installing, you will get a notification
16. hit the menu soft key (lower left of phone) until you are back at the main cwm screen where reboot system now will be highlighted at the top of the page. Hit the power button to reboot phone. You are now rooted.

Never hurts to make sure you have a good clean copy to work with. So delete all the other su + busybox files and folders you have in your downloads section. Then download this one to your downloads folder on your computer, don't open or unzip it, and drag and drop it onto your sd card:

http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip

This way we know you are working with all good, new, clean files. After you do this follow all the steps from my last post.

Once I download the su-busybox file to my downloads on the pc it shows it as a compressed unzipped open file, however, when I click the pda buttom to see whats there it says its a : 2.12 mb, Folders: Meta-Inf, System. Files: Install Busybox. This what i see when I hovser the cursor over the su-busybox file.

In the download area just above my taskbar the file is there with a downbox arrow that says open, open to folder. Unless I click on one of these it will not show up in the dload folder.

Do I extract the file?

Do not extract the file, leave it as is as a compressed unzipped file. plug your phone into your computer with the usb cord while usb debugging is enabled on your phone. pull down the notification bar on the phone, click on usb connected, on the next screen click on the gray bar that says connect usb storage, click ok if you get a pop up. Once you phone fully connects to your computer you should get an autoplay window pop up on your computer, click on open folder to view files. Once a window opens leave that window up on your computer and bring up the downloads folder. Drag and drop the su + busybox file from the downloads window to the phone sd card window. Then follow the instructions from my previous post.

scratch posts 34-36. Everything looks okay for odin and I have downloaded the newest CWM you linked me to. SO now is the moment of truth. Now do I have the nerve or not. Once rooted I should look for the superuser apk. Right?

All you will need to do is open your app drawer and look for the superuser app icon. Then we can test it with terminal emulator.
