Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

That would be terrific and a pleasant surprise. I was happy to just extend my contract for 1 year.
Why? We still don't know if a 1 year extension saves the $20 a month. All the vzw publications say 2 year contracts are exempt. None say anything about 1 year contracts.

It's 100 per month.

Here's a screen-scrape (I'm too lazy to make another screenshot) of what it says under My Plan, under Promotions and Discounts:

Description Start Date Expiration
LOYALTY 100 TEXTS X 12MOS 1YR 10/16/2015 10/16/2016
LOYALTY 100 MINS X 12MOS 1YR 10/16/2015 10/10/2016

same here... got 100 minutes x 12 months:

28% Access Discount on eligible plans as a *** employee or affiliate 08/06/1976 02/08/2016 All
25% FEATURE DSCNT - ACCOUNT on eligible features 11/07/1998 xxx-xxx-xxxx <--- line with UDP
LOYALTY 100 MINS X 12MOS 1YR 10/07/2015 10/01/2016 xxx-xxx-xxxx <--- line with UDP

I don't think VZW would advertise a 1yr promo contract loophole. But the promo letter spells out my plan, allowances, prices, and contract term. Maybe it doesn't work that way, but we'll find out soon.

My current contract doesn't expire for another year. The first Verizon rep added the 100 minutes and promised that it would extended my contract for 1 additional year. (making it a 2-year contract, starting yesterday) The minutes were added to my line, but the 1 addition year wasn't. I called back and was told that there was no way to add 1 year of contract to someone who was still in a contract.

Called back again this morning and was told the same thing. But the supervisor said she added ANOTHER 100 minutes x 12 months for me. So now that line now shows two 100-minute bonus. However, the contract end date still remains unchanged at 11/2016.

I called Verizon to speak to a different to verify what the online chat rep did. (see post #503 above)

Good news: he told me that he did indeed see the 100 bonus minutes being added to my UDPline.

Bad news: he said my contract was not extended. It's still on the original 11/2016 contract end date. Not 11/2017, as the previous rep claimed.

Worse news: his supervisor came on the line and informed me that there was no way to add another 1-year contract, since I still had another year of contract remaining. However, she said I would definitely still be getting the 100 minutes per month.

Can't say that I'm surprised. No two Verizon reps ever gave the same answers. In fact, I have often suggested that Verizon change its name to just "V" and add "YMM" in front of it. YMMV.
As discussed earlier in the thread, the 100 minutes promotion will only extend the contract 1 year from today. If your contract is over a year, then no extension would occur.

Why am I not surprised that 3 Verizon supervisors couldn't agree on this one issue? :) They each gave a different answer and insisted that he or she was right.

Although my line did show that 1 additional year of contract was added to my existing contract. However, it went away after a few hours.(after I logged in and out of my Verizon account)

Not one to give up that easily, I just called Verizon again. The rep looked at the notes left by the previous supervisor. She got her own supervisor to take a look. They agreed that I should have had an additional year tacked on to my current remaining year of contract. (making it end 11/2017) They spent almost 30 minutes doing it again. The supervisor even gave me his direct number so I can call him back. (although he said he would personally follow-up on this and call me later this afternoon) He did send me an email to document the call.

Ever get the feeling that Verizon is the complete opposite of the Borg? (where everybody has their own idea, instead of operating as one single entity) :D :D :D

The trouble is their computer system IS the Borg and no matter what any individual rep or manager does it is liable to change things on its own to fit the templates it understands.

So, I just called, and they told me that promo was not available. Should I just try calling again soon and hope to get in touch with a different person who knows what they're doing, or try it through online chat?

Yes.

Here's a summary of my conversation.

*611 on my phone. Requested customer service from the automated system.
Rep: thank you for being a VZW customer since YYYY. How can I help you?
Me: Thanks! Verizon has been awesome for me. I was wondering if there were any promotions available on my line (gave last for of UDP line)
Rep: Let me check.
Me: Any promotional minutes or texts would be great. I had a friend tell me about a 100 minute or 100 text promotion that he got.
Rep: Let me check a few areas. I don't see any promotions in this one but there's one more place that I could check..
Me: Great! Thanks!
Rep: Found one! LOYALTY 100 MIN.
Me: I'll take it!
Rep: This is a 1-year promotion. Do you agree to the contract extension?
Me: Yes I agree!
Rep: Great. I'll add that to your NNNN line.
Me: Thank you! Sounds great!
Rep: There is a $175 early termination fee should you cancel prior.
Me: Understood. Verizon has been awesome to me so I don't plan on leaving.
Rep: That's great to hear. You're all set!
Me: Thank you so much!
Rep: Thank you for being with us since YYYY. Have I addressed all of your customer needs?
Me: Yes. Thank you!
Rep. okthxbye

Now that "retain my current data plan" is no longer an option in BB using this method it would be great is somebody who is using it this week would take screen shots showing all the right choices to use the tdp line to get the new phone after transferring the upgrade from the udp line to the tdp line. Of course just draw lines through personal info and phone numbers to avoid revealing your id to the universe.
Thanks.

I put the loyalty 100 minute promotion on the primary line of my family share, which has UDP; no problem. When I tried to also put it on another UDP line on the same account, I was told that this promotion can only go on the primary line of a share. I suspect that the CSR was correct; that has been my experience with other promotions in the past. Oh well.

Maybe try to put the 100 TXT promotion on the other line (depending on what you have at the text message plan).

Thanks to everyone for the helpful information.

Was able to successfully add the promo to my account this morning. My line (which had been out of contract since 2013) now is under contract until 10/27/2016.

I give up.. .none of the Verizon supervisors were able to add another year to my contract. (current contract expires 11/2016) However, I did get the 100 minutes. Apparently it is impossible to add another year of contract if the line is still in a contract.

Hmmm..... two of my tiered data lines have contract end dates of 8/2016 and 9/2016. If it's not possible to extend them at this time, why dont' I call Verizon again tomorrow AM and ask them to put 100-minute bonus on each of those two tiered data lines? :D Or is this a risky move? Verizon is a bit YMMV corporation... they may screw something up?

These promos don't take effect at the end of a contract so I'm not sure why you think you should be able to use these to add a year to your contract end date (of 11/2016).

If you use the bb method to buy a new subsidized phone would that extend you for 2 more years?

What's the scenario?

Line 1: UDP on M2M with upgrade available
