verizon software preloaded = future updates through verizon?

Since the videos show the Verizon software on the LTE version, and there's already some controversy linking the announcement delays to the VZW apps on the phone, does this mean that Google won't be able to push the updates to the LTE version as they did for every other nexus phone?

Would Verizon try to stay in the loop and make sure their software is included in every future update? Does this pretty much nullify the whole point of a nexus phone?

I think google will still handle the updates since it is only 2 verizon apps and it is not a skin like blur and that. I would assume verizon would not have to do much maybe tweak the apps a little but other than that shouldn't really need to be involved.

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking about it and is Verizon really going to let Google push updates? Won't Verizon have to have their hands in it and test updates like crazy like they always do since its on their network? Not sure how all that works.

Hopefully if they break after updates Verizon will have to push updated apps separately. Not a major issue for me because I'll most likely flash a lot of roms, but I do understand how that would be against the Nexus philosophy. I've heard some pretty bad stories about update delays especially on Samsung phones.

I dont think those apps come with the phone. I believe that the user of that phone simply downloaded them from the market.

Jesus Verizon needs to drop this phone so everyone can stop all this nonsense. Verizon has it's own apps that can be loaded from the market. This is not a UI on top of Android. This is a few market apps pre-installed. Please please please please please please please STOP!!!!

Verizon preloads it on most of their phones and you cannot remove them without rooting.

wouldn't my updates have to come from rovio also then since i have angry bird apps on my phone.. I kno someone stated that one of them is not in the market, but im sure Verizon can just push an app update to to the phone. I find It trivial to think that Verizon would be responsible for the software updates based on two apps. They use to release the software so delayed before because they would need to skin it, not package their apps in it

angry birds is in the market. Plus rovio updates their apps way before to work when future versions are coming out such as ICS. Look at most latest updates all say ICS compatible. Pure bs on verizon's part.

I don't think the issue is about which apps or if they are good or bad. It's about whether or not Verizon is integrating them into the OS in such a way that will prevent this phone from getting instant OS updates from Google. If a updated OS has to go through Verizon to have a couple of bloat apps added and then tested, one of the primary reasons for buying a Nexus phone is negated. I would guess this is a question that only someone like Panda could answer.

this is partly my point, these apps are not part of the software that is ICS..they are standalone apps that perform system activities. They dont need to program them into the software at the OS level, they can simply add them on top via an update. So what im saying is, they have other delivery methods like how angry birds comes from the market.

The part about angry birds originally was to point out that market apps dont need to be included with ICS updates just like these verizon ones wont need to be

Just out of curiosity, if it ended up that Verizon were involved in pushing code updates and the gnex was saddled by this just like any other Verizon phone, how many folks here would buy something else either currently out or wait for something else in the pipeline?

Personally, if I had to wait for Verizon to release code updates for the gnex I would just go out and buy the RAZR. I honestly like the hardware Motorola in the RAZR more, but that's just my opinion. Not trying to start a(nother) comparison thread here. :-)

I would still probably go for the nexus since it will be easily rooted and bootloader unlocked which makes for great dev following.

^ The Gnex will have Fastboot meaning custom roms. Which I bet most users here will use.

So it really is a non issue. Just interesting.

I will still be getting it regardless, I just don't like where the Verizon is taking the Nexus line. It's becoming just another phone.
