My Nexus 7 just got the 6.0.1. update and has had 6.0 for awhile. I assume it was pushed out by Google. My Nexus 6 is an unlocked version from Amazon and I am not a direct AT&T customer (I have Consumer Cellular that uses AT&T towers). Previously with CC I had a Nexus 4. I got all the Android updates very quickly which was a selling point for Nexus devices. I assume my Nexus 4 updates came from Google. I don't believe they came from either CC or AT&T, why would they - I bought my unlocked Nexus 4 from Google. I believe the updates for my unlocked Nexus 6 will come from Google (or Motorola?). Why would AT&T push out an update for a phone they didn't sell or have a contract with? The only explanation is AT&T has requested Google not push out 6.0 to the Nexus 6 for some reason. But why would that be since the latest Nexus phones are already using 6.0 on AT&T towers. I have to blame Google here because they promote unlocked Nexus devices will have quick updates to the latest Android version. So Google is failing to deliver with their Nexus 6. If AT&T is somehow able to stop Google from pushing out 6.0 (or they turned it over to AT&T) then that is an issue on Google to remedy ASAP and not allow to happen in the future. And why is neither Google, Motorola or AT&T publicly explaining/addressing the issue?

You blame Google for failing to deliver on this? If Nexus 6 phones on all other carriers but AT&T are receiving their 6.0 OTA updates, that would seemingly implicate AT&T as being the holdup. Also, when it comes to OS updates, I trust Google to know when a Nexus phone is ready for an update before AT&T.

There are many people who have flashed 6.0 and 6.0.1 onto a Nexus 6 operating on AT&T's network. I've only heard of one case of anyone having any problems as a result. I purchased my N6 at an AT&T store, and I flashed from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 a couple nights ago. Everything works fine.

I also flashed 6.01 I have a at&t sim in my unlocked N6 bought straight from google I have had zero issues. Why wait on At&t flashing is super easy. This was my first time ever flashing a image. Thanks to everyone on this site I figured out how. Just follow the steps

What is Google's explanation for the delay? Why were there no delays with my Neuxs 4 with the same service? Who actually sends out the OTA updates (actually via Wi-Fi), Google or the carriers? How can Google make promises of quick Android updates for Nexus devices and device updates for a certain period of time if they turn the update process over to the whims of the carriers?

Google's explanation would probably be to tell you to flash it yourself instead of waiting for AT&T. They're not going to publicly throw a major carrier under the bus (and thus damage business relations) over an update delay on a single device that neither company sells any longer.

Well that is just silly. Sure I can flash my Nexus 6 to Marshmallow. But I shouldn't have to and neither should the thousands of other Nexus 6 owners who bought it with the promise of rapid Android updates. My Nexus 4 was always updated quickly regardless of whether I was with Straight Talk or Consumer Cellular long after it was no longer sold. Who provided those updates? Seems like something has changed.

Who can explain how these updates are done? I have suggested to the Android Central staff that they write an article on how the OTA updates happen. Who locates your phone and how do they find it? Who sends the the update files over the internet to the phone? What location are they sent from? What is Google's responsibility, what is the carrier's responsibility with an unlocked phone for the updates?

The Nexus 6 was updated to MM on either October 5th or 6th and has been available for 71 days as of 12/16. 6.0.1 has already rolled out to the Nexus 6 via OTA (on all carriers) and has also been posted as factory images. The best advice would be to stop waiting and go install the software. At this point if you don't have the first OTA, there is probably something about the setup on your local device that is preventing the OTA from being pushed or received.

I'm in the same situation on a Nexus 6 purchased from Amazon...same build. If 6.0.1 OTA is rolling out, how can some Nexus 6 users still be waiting for the first Marshmallow update, especially when you have one that's not a carrier version?

According to Google rep, Nexus devices purchased from carriers receive updates from carriers, not Google. I was given no answer as to why Nexus 6 users with phones purchased from retailers are still waiting for Marshmallow when there's already a new OTA update rolling out with an update to Marshmallow.

If that's the case, I should've received the update but I have not. Bought from Google, took it to ATT and had the sim put in.

I decided not to wait for the OTA update and I flashed the 6.0.1 factory image on my Nexus 6, which was stuck on build LMY48Z. Nexus users should not have to go through that process but it seems Google is taking extra precautions in the OTA delivery of 6.0.1 because it's been said to be the most significant update so far to the Android system. For those who do not wish to wait, you can use the tutorial I used, which was posted by Twitter user dcogen on theunlockr. I've never flashed or rooted any Android device but his tutorial was so well-made it's easy for even the most timid users.

I can tell you Google did fix this -- With the 6P they do not allow the US carriers to sell them and therefore they do not need them for anything. When an update comes out -- I get it from Google within a few days (they do it in batches) -- no wait for any carrier.

It means other brands of phones are getting Android updates quicker than the Nexus 6. Google promotes Nexus devices as getting fast updates, but Google has failed with the Nexus 6.
