I think I was eligible because I was at best buy with the wife and I was going to turn in my note 7 for a cheap go phone so the BB employee cleared my phone for upgrade thinking she was going to swap phones. She took so long with my wife (3 hours) I was bored and got online with Att and went thru the pre order motions and bam, it said I was upgrade eligible so I ordered it while I could. Sure beats hours and hours at best buy and now I don't have to shell out for a temp phone either, I'll just beat the hell out of this N7 until the 28th when v20 arrives at door.

I also seen when buying att LG v20 you get a $200 credit with trade in and free headphones. I may have to visit ATT for trade in credit info. http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/v20/promo/att

I traded my v10 in when I got the note 7 at the att store so I guess I'm screwed?

BB has an LG Phoenix go phone for $50. Return note 7, purchase that and activate it. Go to att and pre-order v20. Or wait it out until 28th. I jumped on the pre order, who knows how many phones will be avail when released since a good note 7 crowd may be snatching them up.

I think att even has a $30 phone. Return to best buy and walk out empty handed. Buy $30 phone and pre order. But man I bet a 30 phone for a week or two would be torture LOL

I just want to get settled into a new phone and be DONE with it. The last few months have been crazy annoying.

The guys at the att store told me they will have plenty on launch, they always do....i hope he is right. He told me to text then a few days before to see what's up.

Keep it until the V20 is released at AT&T. On V20 release day return to BB, walk out empty handed and start over with the V20 at ATT. Or return to BB now, buy a cheap temp at ATT and also get on the v20 pre order. No matter what I would run from BB while you have the chance

Agreed. They had an opportunity to shine. The thing is they had no choice but accept the returns. Instead they made it a terrible experience for most of us that had to deal with them. If they only stepped it up and were proactive it would have been some really great free advertising and created some loayal customers. Instead they are dirt to many people now. I will wait as long as I can then return to BB, and go to VZ to get the V20 or Zforce.

I have never used a prepaid in my life. How does it work. I have a VZ contract. I return Note 7. I buy LG Optimus Zone 3 4G LTE prepaid for $29.99 till whenever The LG V20 comes out. Do I just activate it and buy prepaid minutes on top of my family plan already in place? THanks for the info anyone.

Hello All
Just found this thread this evening and admit up front that I did not read the 53 pages before putting up this post. As of today, I just went to Best Buy to return my "Original" Note 7 (never received a replacement - nor never had one adverse issue whatsoever) and when I went to BB in FairLakes, VA I brought all my accessories and original bag with me, intent I was there to return it and walk out with another device. That did not end up transpiring at all folks!

After discussing the matter with the Mobile Rep and Store Manager this is what I learned.

1) that I was not bound nor mandated to return the Note 7 by my carrier (VZW) nor Best Buy.

2) that if I wished to return it for the next best thing, a S7 Edge I would have to take the ONLY color they had in stock (Rose Gold) Black was the only one I had any liking toward.

3) that if I kept my Note 7 and ever had a problem with all these reported fires and melting it WOULD in fact be covered by their Geek Squad insurance coverage regardless if it burned into my bedroom dresser or not! I made sure they knew what they were saying - confirming this. They said the only thing they could obviously replace it with would be the S7 Edge. Which sounded fine by me!

Therefore I walked out of there with my same original Note 7 phone and all my gear!

What I'd like to know, after seeing it posted elsewhere in this forum, is will I NOT receive anymore security or Samsung updates since they've ceased production of this phone now?
If true then have no future w it don't I? Please tell me folks, what other negative aspects of keeping this Note 7 am I looking at here that I've decided to keep it folks? Should I just get it over with and get a Black S7 Edge or what? Please someone fill me in on what Pros and Cons am I looking at now?

Again. This visit to Best Buy was at 3pm TODAY and was even told (off the record) by a BB rep was to just keep it if I'm not experiencing any flaws or of issues whatsoever! Imagine that!

I got the story from the Gainesville, VA Best Buy on the original recall. Said I shouldn't worry about it as the chances of anything bad happening were slim. Hilarious.

Gunny, I'm having the same thought process. I purchased the Note 7 ("updated" battery model) after Apple pissed me off with the whole pre-order then delayed shipment fiasco. I love the Note 7 and was horrified with the production stop.

Frankly, I don't see any comparable device; the S-Pen is important to me. One question is how long we can hold out while still being able to return to BestBuy? I paid full price for the Note7 and want to be able to return it for a full refund. I just don't know how long that window will remain open.

You have the right to go into bestbuy and return the phone and be made whole. You do not have to accept what they tell you to. If you search you should be able to find a bestbuy forum where moderators will attempt to help you by getting in touch with individual stores to get them up to speed. Good luck. The word I am getting on support is there will be nonr. No updates of any support. I would imagine that you would have an issue with getting it replaced down the road long term.

Gunny, very well written. Here are my thoughts:

1. Are you going to travel by plane? If so, these will probably be forbidden.
2. If you keep it, the odds are, no problemo. But if there is, will BB have one to replace it? You'll have to ask that question. The Geeks probably won't be able to fix a catastrophic failure.
3. Do you have a fall back phone? Here is where I'm going with this. If you do, turn in the Note 7 & use it until the Note 8 comes out. This is my exact circumstance.

Good luck Gunny. :)

You can put the pre paid go phone on your line. You basically activating a pre paid phone but it's not on Pre pay if you have a line. It works for Both. I wish I bought one, maybe I will, it would be nice to have a beater backup phone.

Ok, so I just found this thread tonight and want to share...
I preordered the n7. I went in to BB on 9/30 to exchange the recalled phone (an email from BB originally stated that I must do this by 9/30) to which they put my name on a waiting list (no interim phone offered) and told me that they would call me when they get the next shipment, which would be in a couple of days. They made it crystal clear that I could pick any phone that I wanted for the exchange, that ALL they needed was the phone itself (no receipt, no cords, no box, no free gift I'd received). I expressed my concern that I was passing the 9/30 date from the email and they assured me that because of the entire situation, dates are not an issue....especially the initial purchase date. Irrelevant.
Today (6pm-ish) I finally received that call from BB. Of course the call was not to come and pick up my replacement n7. :( It was to advise me (to which I've known for a couple days now) to return my n7 for another phone. Everything I previously explained above still stands, they confirmed...with the exception of...I have until Friday, THIS FRIDAY, to return the phone through BB. They said that they just learned today that that is their deadline to work with customers through the store to resolve the issue. If I do not exchange my phone in-store by Friday, I will then have to work directly with Samsung to resolve it! This concerns me.
I am definitely rearranging my schedule to get to BB by Friday. I switched from Motorola to try this amazing new phone and love it, but looks like I'm going back to Motorola. I am concerned that if forced to deal directly with Samsung, my choices would be limited.
Wish me luck tomorrow!
I'll update and hope this information helps someone.

Best Buy is just a middle man. They say they have AT&T employee specialist (and other carrier specialists) but in reality those specialist have zero association with AT&T. They have to jump through loops and hoops, sometimes climb mountains leaving me sitting at the bottom wondering when they will wander back down the hill with my activated phones.

After these last 2 month at Best Buy I discovered the carrier is where issues are quickly resolved and it's mostly hassle free. I know all carriers aren't the greatest but it's sooo much better than Best Buy. Employees are more courteous and professional at AT&T too. Best Buy employees appear rude, over worked, miserable, and appear inconvenienced having to do their JOB. I don't hate on the individual BB employees but the entire BB Mobile Department sucks. Conclusion still stands after visiting about 6 different BB too.

Putting the Samsung blame aside, I would have about 10 hours of my life back and a few less handfuls of hair if I originally purchased from AT&T.
