Re: anyone else

I am with Version but I am considering the switch to Tmobile because Verzion doesn't offer a lot of data, and they are so expensive!.

Re: Really hating being in a contract right now

When signing on the dotted line you are locked in for 2 years, regardless of phones, or anything else really. It is you guaranteeing 2 years of service -- what you do with the phone is your choice. Have to be careful when making a commitment for 2 years.

Advantages

Are there any advantages to AT&T over Verizon. we have had Verizon for a long time and I was wondering what are the differences in the networks. Is it any cheaper? Is the service about the same? Any reason that I should consider switching from Verizon to AT&T. Are there any perks. I am just wondering as we are considering because the money we get for switching over. also sometimes we travel to the mountains where most phone services do not get signal and Verizon rooms off of carolina west wireless to get signal. It is in the Appalachian Mountains in West Jefferson and Jefferson areas which is close to Boone. Does AT&T get any sort of signal up there? Thank you. Anything I should know either against or for switching? Thank you everybody

Re: Really hating being in a contract right now

I can understand and please don't take this wrong but the decisions you made were your decisions which you really can't blame anyone but yourself for. I've made bad phone decisions myself and the best I can do is to learn from them. I once made a mistake to go Apple and 10 months later went back to a PC. I was out over $4,000.00 for that one. But it wasn't Apple's fault I didn't like their product.

Re: Really hating being in a contract right now

You have 14 days to return the phone and have the contract reversed. It doesn't matter if you return it 15 days or 23 months after purchase, you are locked in for the remainder of the 2 year contract. There is no such thing as returning the phone after the return period on Verizon. Because then you are just trading in the phone. And trade in on any carrier will be ready lower than what you paid for the device.

The more everything plan is $40 for line access on contract, which you are on. You will get the $15 discount once you are off contract. You can fulfill the contract by keeping the contract for 2 years or paying etf.

If you decide to go no contract then you will pay full retail, typically $650,for the iPhone. Should you decide to trade in the phone after the return period, then you would get back the same $200ish. So you would be out $450. In your specific case, you are paying $15 more per month or $360 over 2 years. So going on Verizon no contract would actually cost you more in your specific situation. Plus you pay off the phone at over 2 years instead of getting hit with the $650 at once.

Can always pay the ETF and go to another carrier. TMobile will pay it for you. I think Sprint will too.

Re: Advantages

AT&T and Verizon are pretty much the same price all around. Verizon has more coverage though.

Re: Advantages

Why not just start a new line of service with att, and test it out where you need it? If you return the phone within 3 days then the activation fee would be waived so you would just pay the restocking fee. Costs a little but better than switching and not having service where you need it.

General coverage in an area doesn't mean much, if it doesn't get coverage exactly where you need it. For example at my desk at work, I get great speeds in Verizon. In other areas of the same building, Verizon speeds are pretty mediocre.

With regards to cost, both carriers have very similar plans. Depending on your specific needs, one carrier might be slightly cheaper than the other. Neither carrier will be cheaper in all scenarios at all times,so you need to look at your specific situation

Re: Advantages

On that note I may just have to do that. I have tested a few different phone companies now including t-mobile which I am taking up to the mountains in a couple of weeks. Thank you everyone. I wish AT&T was at least a little bit cheaper would help them get more customers.

Re: Really hating being in a contract right now

Thank you everyone for your opinions. I do understand that it was my fault and I made a bad decision. However at the time I purchased the iPhone I didn't really have any experience is with Android. I have some specific needs that I need and I thought Apple was the only one who could you do the those needs for me. Now I am loving my android and hoping that we can get a discount on our verizon bill. I know I probably don't deserve it but I am in either way still locked into a2 year contract which I do not particularly mind. I think it is stupid that we should have to pay for the privilege of upgrading your phone and then pay more for it every month. When I do this I was not educated about how contracts work and thought it was just a cheaper phone. I am much wiser now in this regard. You learn as you live and I guess that is the way it is supposed to be.

You can always leave. ETF.

Pretty much all the carriers charge the upgrade fee. You can avoid it by going with Edge. Edge is only really worth it if you get the $25 discount for having 6gb or greater.

If you want out Sprint and T-Mobile will pretty much cover all your costs to switch over.

Re: Really hating being in a contract right now

Thank you. I will do something like as in the future. Is it worth it if you only have a one gigabyte data plan? Is it end up being about the same or do you end up paying more? I can't afford to buy a phone outright every four or five years if I save money very diligently but if I could do monthly instalments that would be good.

It depends on the phone. Since you are limited on funds, the Galaxy core prime is, $8/mo on edge, but you will get a $15/mo discount. So in this case it would be worth it to go on edge.

However, it depends on the situation. In many cases for high end devices , it would be cheaper to go on contract. Just do the math. It is pretty simple.

Thank you. If you do not mind me asking how did you get your note for did you finance it or put it as a contract. I do think they are going away from contract eventually.

I think Verizon confirmed they won't be trying to kill the 2 year contract any time soon. It has worked for them so they'll keep both options.

Prices fluctuate, but the standard pricing for the note 4 is $300 on contract, $700 off contract. There was a sale that brought it down to $200 on contract. Samsung gave you up to $190 back on trade in around release.

If you pay attention to the deals you can get phones pretty cheap. I am a Comcast customer and they partner with Verizon. I got the Note 4 on a new line of service through the promotion. The phone was $200 and they waived the upgrade fee. I then got a $200 gift card from Comcast. I was able to trade in 2 phones on a promotion for getting the Note and got another $200 in gift cards. I then sold my old phone for around $350. When I got the gift cards I canceled the line that was already suspended. So the phone cost me about $565 total. I got about $750 from selling my phone and gift cards.
