Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

I thought they piggyback off of Sprint.

They were a Sprint MVNO, yes, but they had their own CDMA and LTE networks as well. IDK much about CDMA, but their LTE was band 4. They actually rolled out LTE before TMO did.

Re: good or bad

Sprint is great in the Atlanta area. I have fast LTE everywhere I go. Check service for your area and go with whoever is best.

Re: sound on calls

Never had a issue with call quality on sprint ever, can't say the same for AT&T which dropped calls all the time here in Orlando.

Re: good or bad

Sprint sucks period....if it works for u, consider yourself to be lucky. Enjoy it, when you experience what 97% of people on sprint or used to be on sprint did, then come to cricket or tmobile

Wow where did you get that 97% from, Verizon?

Re: good or bad

I think Sprint is fine if you live a large to medium sized city. If you live is a rural area they still lag behind AT&T and Verizon. Being in the Chicago area, Sprint has pretty good coverage and call quality has never been an issue.

As a Sprint user for almost 5 years, some negative the of comments about Sprint I read here on AC is deserved, but not all of it. But do your own homework and check out RootMetrics, Opensignal for real word coverage and s4gru.com about Sprint deployment news.

Re: good or bad

I had Sprint for 17 years. The service sucks but after Dan Hess left, they dropped a lot of loyalty programs, made any type of discounts impossible to get, and cruddier service.

When they refused to let us switch to a cheaper plan even after we offered to pay ETF, they refused. So we left.

We switched to Cricket. Half as much and better service. In fact, Crickets capped site speed is always faster than sprints best.

Re: good or bad

This is good info. I have been looking in to cricket. I may give it a try later this year.

There's a lot of good info here, I hope you read it all. It's been said more than once, quality of service depends mostly on where you live - which is true for any provider.

In my area Sprint is good, many people I know with tmobile have trouble with their texts not going through, & Verizon phone call quality is hit or miss. Pros & cons for any provider, check those websites that were listed earlier & talk to people who live & work where you do.

One other issue with Sprint is its maps of coverage. I have found anything less than dark green for data results in less than 4g light green is 2g. When I am down Cape Cod, only 4 g is on the highway and major town centers. The rest was crap. I live south of Boston and only main roads in certain towns get 4g. If you have dark green then it should be good.

Also, my company I work for had a discount program on the service bill. They continually dropped the discount on each new phone activation , we have 5 lines, and I had to jump through hoops to get it back. One time it took me 4 months to get it back and the have a retro refund policy of 2 months.

Very shifty and less customer orientated since Dan Hess left. It was great when they had the premier member rewards for 10+ years of service.

Prior to February, their unlocking for international was all most impossible. Even though I had paid off an iPhone 4s and it was inactive, I tried to unlock it so I can sell it overseas. They refused because they said it needed to be active to two concurrent months. Even now, I asked to unlock my Moto X 2013 for domestic use. They gave me the code, it there is no way to use it. No prompts for it ( they said there should have been) when another carrier sim was inserted. I'm positive it needs a OTA from them but they said it was needed and I should find some to do it for me.

They are absolutely a heaping pile of rotting trash overflowing from Oscar's can. I might be a little bitter here after 17 years of having them.

Re: good or bad

Ha, yeah you're a little bitter, but I can see why.

I've been with Sprint since the 80s (or maybe early 90s? I don't remember) & last year I left because they were taking too long to upgrade towers in my area & I was always having dropped calls, & I got tired of waiting. But I came back & am happy with the improved service now (no loss of service, no dropped calls) , & customer service has also been good. I had a non service related issue & they slapped a $30 credit on my account without even telling me. I had to make a follow up call & they threw on another $20 credit which I discovered later.

I can't stress enough, everyone's experience will be different, no carrier is perfect, we all just need to find the one that works best for each of us.

OP: just do your homework, check the maps, figure out who works best for you. Good luck!

Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

As someone who actually uses Cricket, I can offer an actual informed opinion. I've had them going on a year, with 0 issues so far. No dropped calls, no SMS/MMS issues, no problems with data speeds, and had to update credit card info and got a live person in about 5 minutes. When I compare this with the problems I had with Sprint and Virgin mobile, using Cricket was a no brainer. In fact, just got my Mom on it with a Moto G.

promos

I just got off the phone with Verizon customer service and they said to be expecting deals and promotions within a couple of weeks. Let's keep them posted here. Trying to lower my bill. Too expensive

Re: promos

As all of you know I am on a family share plan to phone unlimited minutes and text and 1 gigabyte of data. All of this cost us $110.00 but will go down $30 when end of contract.

Re: promos

I doubt there will be any new deals for your plan. They usually discount the higher plans.

Re: promos

I feel like our plan is way too expensive. $110.00 with only one gigabyte of data. $15 for every gb by over since we are in contract. We are getting one for free because of a phone I bought but that still is very little data for a very high price.

That is just the going price now a days. They usually cut deals for people on bigger plans -- not the smaller. That is why the double data only worked for people on higher plans -- so they can get more money.

Plans with only 1-2 people are pretty harsh on pricing .. whereas a family of 5 could get 20 GB shared .. So $340 / 5 = $68 a person .. add in taxes and fees .. each person pays about $75ish ... And has a good amount of data (as long as they aren't all data hogs).

Sadly that is how it is in wireless .. more people = bigger plans for cheaper whereas the individual plans or plans with only two people becomes expensive.

Re: promos

Good idea, I'll be watching. I have 5 lines, 3 basic and 2 smart on edge, more everything plan and 10gb. After insurance on the 2 smart phones and all the taxes and fees I'm paying 245.

The deal I'm looking for is to upgrade one of the basics to a smart and end up paying less.

Would be great if I could find that deal!

Re: What are the pros and cons of Cricket Wireless?

I believe someone told me I can buy AT&T phone and use it was cricket. Is that true as well? Since it is the same company it should work.
