Droid Bionic Not Released Before Tiered Data Plans!

That is false.Call again and I bet you'll get a different answer.

Lol. Funny how you act so authoritative on the basis of leaked information that might or might not be true.

Yes, I have my Blackberry Storm. I'm waiting on the Bionic and wanted to make sure I WILL be grandfathered in and not have to worry about the Tier crap.

According to leaked information, you should be fine. Even If these leaks fail to materialize, you can at least say that people on a forum assured you that you would be grandfathered. ;)

Even IF you want to "Lock in" before 7/7 why not wait until like 7/5 and see what other information comes out? I am with the rest of the guys since VZW only has a "Data plan" and doe snot specify anywhere that their is a difference between 3G and 4G. Remember If you bout a World phone, (like my old Tour) they also have a SIM and the plan is still the same.

heres another variable...

SO.... what about upgrade pricing. that requires that you resign a 2yr contract.... does that constitute a "plan change"? Am I going to have to pay retail for a bionic to get unlimited data?

(I'm coming from a storm with unlimited data...)

Thanks..... but:

I've read every post in the bionic forums for the last three months plus.... I don't recall this scenario being discussed. Thank you for your help.

Rah. Been waiting to get a smartphone and following the Bionic and these threads for MONTHS. With the deal at Costco ($180 for the Charge) I had to take the plunge. I've got 90 days to swap it for another phone, which is awesome. I'm assuming the Bionic will drop within this window (or the S2) and I can sort of re-assess everything. For now, I'm pretty happy with my Charge.

Verizon has said in their employee training that customers who currently have an Unlimited data plan on their smartphone get to keep that plan when upgrading - so long as they keep upgrading to smartphones. There was no discussion of pricing, but so long as they don't explicitly say so, you're free to assume that you'll be able to get a discounted device while resigning your 2 year contract and keeping your current plan, namely Unlimited data.

One last thing, on my account, my dad's plan has unlim data on the DX2. And this is what it shows under Plans on Verizonwireless.com

Can someone with a 4G phone take a screenshot on if their plan says 4G? Testt might be right.

You actually have 14 days to swap it for another phone. The 90 days is to return it for a refund or to swap out a defective one. I just went there and asked if I bought the TBolt and hated it could I return it in 90 days and get a DIFFERENT phone, and they said nope. I could only return it and then buy another phone with off-contract pricing. Too many people were doing what we wanted to do, so they had to get rid of that and go with VZW's 14 day exchange plan.

thats my worry.

"upgrade" could mean come on in and buy a newer phone and you won't lose your pricing...

or sign this new 2yr contract for a new plan and you can get better pricing <fine print> with this new contract comes a new data plan with new tiered pricing </fine print>

OR "upgrade" means what we hope and is just sign a new two year agreement, get a great phone at a hopefully fair subsidized price and keep your unlimited data since you are a loyal customer.

would be nice to have some clarity is all. We deserve to know.

Grabbed this from another board.

No fine prints there at the very least.

Plus if they pull that on you you can either take it for a different phone or not take it and get it from someone else.

Shopping for phones on Verizons site they do seem to differentiate between 3G and 4G plans. For example if you look at the droid x 2 it says this phone requires a data package. Thats it, but if you look at the Charge it says 4G plan pricing on this phone then says the same as X2.

Of course clicking the data link takes you to the same pop up window with the same plan. Its just a small thing but it could mean they plan on separating 3G and 4G plans when it comes to upgrades. Or it could mean absolutely nothing and just want to make sure people know it is a 4G phone. Only time will tell.

They make them different so that you will buy the more expensive 4G phones AND to make it easier for people that only want 3G and do not live in a 4G area. At least that is what I always assumed.

3g and 4g are regarded some completely different things (from my experience). when i got the tb i had to switch to the 4g plan and when i returned it i had to change back to a 3g plan. when i got the charge yesterday i couldn't activate (from phone) until i logged into my online account and change my data plan from 3g to 4g. after doing that i could activate the upgraded device from the phone itself.

This is what people don't understand. Unlimited data will only apply to your specific data plan after 7/7/11.

I thought that as well, but when I added the TB to the Mrs account I had to do that, but I was told it was only because it is a new kind of LTE SIM card but the service was the same. But I do understand your worry and it is still in the back of my mind as well.

Hmm...gentleman must've misled me then, because I was pretty clear and his response was as well. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to ask tomorrow.

The Bionic is getting majorly shafted. Those who purchase it will either be low-data users who are cool with tiered or 4-g locked in geeks paying full price after selling their Thunderbolt/Charge/Revolution on craigslist.

If Moto launched prior to the 7711 funeral, they would have sold a ton of Bionics. Not so moving forward. Shame, really. 4g has changed forever with LTE caps...
