LG fans, do you feel betrayed by the V30 rumors?

Re: The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

Both stupid *** commercials showing nothing. The top one I'd change the channel because it is loud and stupid and I couldn't understand the words. The bottom tells me it has a video recorder. What a novel idea!

Show the features it has that others don't. Like a lesson or review. Second screen. Show someone using it. ir blaster show someone using it. Show next to iphone 7 plus and see same size but more screen etc. Dancing and singing doesn't tell me how LG is as good as iPhone nor Samsung let alone better.

Sorry but I just don't see using an IR blaster to change the channel as a feature worth making a commercial over.

These commercials were supposed to show how good the camera (audio and video). I guess people don't care about that, right?

Even this is a bit better, sadly (although they needed a shot with the zoom working to really kill it) than these LG ads.

You cannot tell which phone has better video unless you show both phones replaying the same video. Then on a TV you still cannot tell. They're singing and dancing and claiming things when they could be showing how convenient a removable battery is or yes show a few hundred devices the ir blaster. can control. Every time I use mine in a group. iPhone users are amazed and didn't know such a thing existed. The bottom line is point out advantages. Just showing a video and claiming it is better shows me nothing. Obviously what they are doing doesn't work. LG cannot be the coolest phone. You must convince people it is the best. It is better because of features it has that others lack.

Let's face it. All flagships take decent pictures.

You mean people don't walk into Verizon every day and say "show me something with an IR blaster"

Manufacturers: "Ignorance is a bliss. Now we don't gotta worry about features anymore. Now we gotta worry about looks... because that's what people look for nowadays. Our phone is sexier than yours!"

iPhone 8 is not going to have a fingerprint scanner. Pixel 2 is not going to have a headphone jack. Note 8 will still have awkward fingerprint scanner placement. LG completely changed the V series from what it originally stood for. All in favor of beauty.

Re: The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

Nobody cares about on-device content creation. For example, the idea that you can plug a mic into the V30 shows that LG has no idea what consumers want. Samsung (and Google to some degree) understand that virtually everyone just want things to work automatically on smartphones. People don't want to do heavy editing on their phones.

Samsung is the king of useful features and they have the sexiest designs of any mainstream brand and they're pretty reliable phones. That's why they are the #1 Android brand. LG is the king of gimmicky, unnecessary features and their designs have been outdated and their phones have been unreliable. That's why they're barely a player on Android. Adding features doesn't mean anything unless they're features the market wants.

Is Bixby a useful feature on the S8? Many users will agree that it's useless. Is the removable battery of the V20 gimmicky? I use it everyday, it helped me so much when I was traveling and on foot without any power source, just pop in a fresh one and go. I'm pretty sure you have electronics that still uses batteries, would make sense to have them pop open and swap batteries right? Why else would you buy it.

About video content creation, the V series was considered a phone for a particular type of person, not the standard good old' smartphone with the basics. If you want basic, you can get an iSheep.

Also sexy or not, people will get sick of looking at the phone everyday and want something shiny next year, so looks shouldn't matter. It's like dumping your girlfriend for a new one, never satisfied with appearance.

Bixby isn't that useful now, but it will be eventually. The removable battery isn't gimmicky, but most of the other features are.

I'm sure the V series was made for a particular kind of person. There are very few of that kind of person and the sales numbers reflect that.

Looks matter. Pretty much always in life.

LOL....'scuse me while I point this out. By definition everything Samsung does is a gimmick and its working for them. Maybe LG needs better gimmicks.

gim·mick

ˈɡimik/

noun

a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business.

synonyms:publicity stunt,*contrivance,*scheme,*stratagem,*ploy;*

You know exactly what I mean. Most of LG's "features" are useless for the majority of people.

Honestly I think its more because many people have never tried them by virtue of lack of units sold. We can't make an assumption on an unknown. The only thing we have established is that we know that you don't like certain features because you voice your opinion as such. That's ok because we all have opinions. You then take it to the next level by drawing the conclusion that since you don't like them, then they must be useless features that no one else likes and your demonstrable proof Is that no is buying LGs therefore the features are useless gimmicks. We know what you don't like, but tell us what you do like because we know you come into the LG threads for more reasons than to tell us how bad their features and their phones are. We know deep down that V30 is looking good to you right about now and can't wait till release date to see what's under the hood.

Re: The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

At this point, I just want to see the phone in hand and get a good feel for it. I'm somewhat interested, but it really depends on how I feel in person and what the combo of features are.

Re: The V30 is coming soon, what will it need to be successful?

Show a 30 second commercial with someone doing the following throughout the course of their day:
- start with a happy lady taking a slow-mo shot of kids/pets playing, or in a field (show off widescreen)
- then she is out in the rain checking texts, posting to Instagram on a huge screen, etc. with no fear of a wet phone (show off water resistance...could also have someone spill water on it at dinner, etc)
- show her taking a shot in a low light/candlelight context (zoom in on the screen and a great low-light picture)
- finish up with her telling her friend/sig other that she does not need to charge the phone, "plenty of juice left", etc (show off great battery life)

Stay away from any abstract stuff. Show a commercial with regular folks doing stuff that they usually do with the phone, but well and without effort. You could even have a quick caption to go along with each scene mentioned above.

Also, in mobile phone stores, have promotional posters/cardboard displays that indicate the above things as well.

None of these things make the V30 unique, but you need to convince people that these devices do what the others do, but very well and better than the competitors.

Some folks here will want a phone with a killer unique feature (ie the secondary screen) and while there is a market for that for sure, for a device to have its best chance to be commercially successful, it needs widespread appeal.

What I'm saying is truth. You don't have to accept it, but it's true. LG (and Motorola) just have no understanding of what is appealing to most people. It's funny that you guys continually make excuses for LG. It has boiled down to "The phones aren't the problem. It's just that people buy other phones based on the name", which is nonsense. The phones are the problem. The features are generally useless to the average person. The average person doesn't want or need to adjust the gain for their videos and they certainly wouldn't attach a microphone to a camera. Anyone that wants those kind of features isn't going to use a smartphone to do it.

I do have some interest in the V30, but it is mostly to see how the display looks and performs since it will also be heading g to the Pixel XL 2.

Sorry guy, but most of what you're saying cones off as your opinion and that's OK. Its also ok for you not to admit it to me... That's your choice.

I could afford any phone out there just like the next guy but I chose the V20. Why?........ Not Because of the two features you mention which I agree are out there on the fringe. I bought it because it had the features that I wanted. Large Screen...not in the useless category and most of the brands have one. 64GB internal storage because 32 is not enough for me. I won't buy something without an SD unless it has 128 internal. I prefer LCD screens though that's something I can give up and would have to with the V30. I prefer the removable battery, but again not something I have to have and I've had both. Same with wireless charging....been there before and I can take it or leave it.

The two fringe features that made up my mind were the Quad DAC and the Wide camera. The Quad DAC is far from useless if you enjoy music. Of course not everyone cares but I'm not everyone and I have a feeling that if we had real salesmen in the world that let someone hear the difference with a demonstration more people would want that feature. I know you think the wide camera is useless but again, if we had real salespeople in the world its a feature more people would want. I can tell you that most people who try it and didn't think much of it up front really like it. Yes I have panorama....never use it, but you like it instead of wide. I don't see people jumping hoops for it.

I buy something for the sum of it's parts. I don't need to make excuses for LG because I don't care if anyone buys it as long as they stay in business to support my product. Of course I do enjoy that others buy it because its nice for the fan base to share ideas...that's why I'm here and I try not to go negative on those that aren't part of the fan base.

LG makes a decent product but I'll admit that like any other brand they have their share of problems. In the end I buy what I like because I'm not a sheep. I'm the same way with cars, cameras and anything else I buy. I don't play follow the leader. I do my research and buy what suits me as should you. Feel free to call what l like and the features I like useless if it makes you feel better about your purchase...I'm not about that. I think you should buy exactly what you like. Samsung makes a great product but I don't like what they have. I hate their skin, I don't like the edge screen. I'm not a fan of the Note and its gimmick...the stylus, but some people find it useful so I won't knock it because I've matured and decided if someone likes something they should get it and enjoy it. I know apple makes a decent phone but feature wise they are behind the times and as you realize there is no customization. I buy them for my wife and daughter because that's what they want and they want what other people in their inner circles want. I have one through work and I tolerate it but its not my choice. Don't ask me why, because I don't know, but I like the IPad. My daughter bought me one when the IPad air came out and I enjoy it more than an Android tablet after having owned one, but I havn tried one lately.

In any event, enjoy you phone and it's set of features...I promise you that I'll enjoy mine.

I'm sure you will, but the majority of people don't care about any of those features.

Re: V30 glass design... is this the future? or just a fad?

I won't use a Samsung phone..

There are multiple reasons actually but on the Active is that they are always far far behind in getting any updates.

Here's my thoughts on buying a "ruggedized phone",, Your paying way too much and getting to little for giving up features that should be there...

My thoughts is just stick with your V20 till it craps out then worry about it.

Mac

Yeah the V20 isn't going no where, performance is rock solid. I'm expecting 2-3 years before my 4 batteries start to crap out, hopefully they'll still have aftermarket ones.
