LG G4 Battery Life Thread

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Yeah, I've been really struggling with the battery life of my G4. Makes me consider returning it and waiting for the new Nexus 5 in October/November.

According to GSam Battery Monitor, I'm averaging 2(!) hours of screen on time, 10 hours 25 minutes of battery life.

FYI, I'm on Sprint, have my screen set to time-out after a minute, and have screen brightness set to auto 30% brightness.

What is killing your battery? I'm on Sprint also and strictly on LTE with no Wi-Fi I got almost 4 hours SOT with 24 hours up time.

Whatever DT Ignite is I'm not seeing it on my ATT version.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

GSam says I've used 78% in 7 hours and 11 minutes.
30% of that is screen
64% of that is app usage.

App usage breaks down to this -
Google Play Services - 21.7%
Android System - 10.2%
(Google) Photos - 8.2%
Kernel (Android OS) - 6.5%
System (mm-qcamera-daem) - 1.8%
Outlook - 1.5%
Google+ - 1.5%
Fit - 1.3%

Everything else is 1% and below.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

Have you tried factory resetting it or running it in Safe Mode?

It does seem weird, and if it doesn't work properly from the get go (battery will last a bit less on the first couple days after initial set up, but it shouldn't run that hot and definitely not drain like that on standby) you might just have a bad unit that needs replacement. The sooner you get it replaced, though, the less chances you have of getting a refurb instead of a new unit.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

You said you would give it a couple of days or so, it's been 2 months !!
You should have returned it much earlier when it didn't settle in a couple of days.

You've got something going on with Google Play Services. Also it appears that you have Google Photos (and maybe other Google Services) set to auto sync or constantly sync, ,maybe even both directions. I wouldn't do that, I would set to manual sync only.

T-Mobile's G4 hasn't been out for 2 months... oO Heck, not even the international version has been out for that long!

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

The part that I can see if I can relate to or not is when you say after charging the phone up it's piping hot. Mine never is. :-\ I'd definitely attempt a replacement.

Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

This happened with mine while watching any type of media. Even a 2 min YouTube video it would be scorching hot. Battery drained very fast as well and took forever to charge back. I returned it because the heat issues still bother this phone apparently.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

I agree with replacing it -- It sounds like a bad one. It shouldn't be that hot when just doing normal tasks.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

I don't even understand asking, it's obvious you have a bad phone. Exchange it.

I do have an LG G Watch, that syncs over bluetooth. I'm wondering if that is what is using Google Play Services.

Nice call on Google Photos, I had it set to back up my photos over wifi.

Still, even with those things enabled, I'd expect better battery life. Does disabling those two things set my battery to be more in line with what other people are seeing? Want to make sure I don't have a dud. I am still in my 14 day return window, but it ends tomorrow.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

Thanks all I just thought that there might be something that could fix it!

Thank goodness I don't stream (SD card WOO HOO :p) or sync anything on my device. Usually those things drain battery life on any device.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Yeah I'm getting just under 3 hours SoT with about 11-12 hours on battery total. I noticed it gets really warm next to the volume rockers on the back when I watch videos.. i'm wondering if some of these units are defunct. Mines a verizon i bought unlocked at bestbuy.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Why would GSAM say my screen on is 1 hour 41 min, 29% discharge when on, 14 % when off.. Shouldn't my screen not dischrage battery when it is off?

screen is 56% discharge, 41% is app usage. but no particular app. Just a CRAP ton of apps with extremely low %. Down to 30% and 10 hours 41 mins from last charge

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

I don't agree that it's necessarily a hardware issue. The same exact problem presented itself on my G4 today. I've had it since Monday and the heat and rapid drain didn't present themselves the first 3 days. This morning I installed 2 new apps. Boom. Hot and rapid drain. I uninstalled both (I'm sure it was only one of them that went rogue) and the phone is cool right now, even charging with my Turbo rapid charger. I assume it will drain at a more reasonable rate as well.

So, you may have a rogue app. Of course, in my case it was easy to figure that out, and narrow it down to which app. Since you've been having the issue from the beginning, it would be a lot of trial and error to figure out which app went over to the dark side.

But wouldn't you see which app is draining the battery in the battery page under settings?
