LG G4 Battery Life Thread

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Got my free battery and charger. I might sell it, the battery is so good not sure if I need a spare. Better than the G3's which was more than adequate.

I had DT Ignite on my Verizon model. I didn't know what it was, thanks for the info.

I am on sprint, brightness set between 80 and 90%, GPS high accuracy, everything set to sync, and I easily get 4hours of SOT. I also have google fit installed and running in the background. Maybe I just got lucky?

We must both be lucky because 4 hours SOT is the worst I've gotten.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Wow. I wasn't even quite to 2 hours of SOT (1:54), and was down to 21%. And the kicker was that the screen was 38% of my battery use. Using Auto Brightness at 6% (trying to minimize the screen's draw).

So, extrapolating, draining to 0% would have given me 2.5 hours of SOT total.

And apps (including system things) used 54% of my battery. But even if they only used 20% total, and *everything* else went to the screen, that would give me 5 hours total SOT. Based on what I saw, expecting software/cell/WiFi, etc, to only be 20% of your total draw is probably overly-optimistic.

Which makes these SOT numbers very impressive. I wish I could have achieved 4 hours or higher.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Stupid question, but how can I check this on mine? SOT is screen on time, right?

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

SOT is Screen On Time, yes.

Go to Settings, Battery. Then scroll down, and tap on Screen. It will bring up the details for the Screen's usage, showing how long the screen has been on.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Thanks

Yikes, my "Time on" is 45 minutes. 65% battery life left. But usage on battery is over 18 hours, and estimated time remaining is 31+ hours. Not sure what all this means

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

Forgive my ignorance, but how is screen on time really indicative of anything unless one knows what the phone was being used for during that time? 4 hours of SOT while sitting on the desk (with the phone set to always on), versus 4 hours of SOT while playing a graphics intensive game would be quite different, no? So how do we know people are comparing apples to apples here?

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

You've got something going on with Google Play Services. Also it appears that you have Google Photos (and maybe other Google Services) set to auto sync or constantly sync, ,maybe even both directions. I wouldn't do that, I would set to manual sync only.

Fred

Dumb question, just where do you find all these Google settings? My Google Services are always second to screen at around 25% or so.

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

I have my Google photo auto backup OFF and it STILL backs up my pics. How the hell do I permanently disable it?!?!

We don't. But from what I've seen, it's at least one of the better comparisons available to us.

The screen itself will presumably draw a pretty consistent amount of power, if at a certain brightness. The total draw will vary, of course, based on what you're doing.

But my 2 hours of SOT was browsing forums, email, etc, never tried any gaming on mine. Pretty mild usage, I'd say. And I was still down to 20%.

Remember that it's a % of total draw. Sit there for 2 hours with the screen on, and the phone doing nothing, and the screen draw will be a higher % of your total battery use.

But game for 2 hours, and now the game app is drawing a lot of power, so your screen might actually be listed as a lower % of your total draw.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

But wouldn't you see which app is draining the battery in the battery page under settings?

I always wondered about this but I think some rogue apps are forcing the os to work overtime and the battery drain gets reported as OS services instead of the app itself. Just a suspicion of mine.

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

Try to do a factory data reset and don't install any apps to see if you still have the problem

Sent from my Verizon LG G4

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

A guy at work has the Note 4, he really likes it. And it has an SD card, and a removable battery, two things I really want in my new phone.

But geez, the G4 is *already* bigger than I wanted :) I really don't want to go even bigger still. I know some people want what I'd call huge screens (5.5" or bigger). Personally, I want 5.1", or thereabouts. I don't need 5.5", and I really do not want to go even bigger than that.

Samsung has the features I want (SD, removable) battery in the Note 4, and the screen size I want (5.1") in the S6. I wish they would decide to combine those into the combo *I* want. I dunno, make an S6R, the S6 Retro, more like the previous Galaxies. Or a Post-It 4, along with the big Note 4.

Perhaps if you contact Samsung they may custom build but that may cost you a considerable amount of dollars 😜😜😜

Re: Phone is overheating and battery is draining!

Good idea! Though it might be cheaper for me to just hire someone to carry the Note 4 around for me :)

Re: LG G4 battery life isn't as great as those reviewers said

This is ridiculous. I haven't seen battery life this bad since the original HTC EVO came out. I can't have a phone I need to charge every 4 hours...

The settings on auto brightness has no Bering on the auto feature. So having the slider on 6 % while you have auto brightness on does nothing at all. I tried this on almost every percentage and I see no difference.
