Wired tether feature & Lag

I assume this may have been asked, but with 51 pages of posts and nothing showing up when I searched the thread I am going to post my question. Sorry if it's a repeat.

I am trying to use the wired tether app that came with this ROM. I plug in my USB and my phone says "Charging" "Mass Storage" "Tethered Mode".

I pick tehtered mode and it tries to run through the Sprint server and says 'error, you don't pay for this, blah blah blah - YES I DO SPRINT! I PAY AN EXTRA $10 A MONTH FOR NO 4G SERVICE... anyways, excuse my rant.

I pick the other two options and nothing seems to work to start the tether.

Suggestions?

Regarding the lag - it think I missed some install steps from what I was reading, but there is SOOOOOOOO much info. Can I get a link from someone with directions for a fresh start? install?

Kernels can be tricky, as k0nane stated before not every device takes the same to kernels. Many react the same then you have your handful that don't react well.. Trying to find that "happy medium" when creating kernels is tough from what I gather.

Some people have had good luck with Twilight Zone kernel, others haven't.. Just the way it goes... Just like those who can run 100 mhz or max out OC and others can't...

So, you think my problem with Syndicate is the kernel? Should I give it a whirl with another kernel... That's a project for tonight...

I believe the XDA thread for this says that Samsung broke the wired tether again and they are working on it but the wireless works.

My shutdown menu disappeared, any ideas?

I hold the shutdown button and nothing happens. i gotta pull the battery to shut off the phone. Just started a few days ago

The $10 data fee most smartphone (especially if it is a 4G device) customers pay this fee. Sprint says it isn't their way of funding expanding 4G but there is no logical reason for it otherwise. And slim logic at that for funding 4G expansion. Anyways tethering is a plan addon that costs a ridiculous amount in my opinion since you are capped at very low amount of data usage. I'm not sure if there is even a way to bypass not having it like there used to be.

Wired Tether (will be fixed in kernel 1.1.1) and Wireless Tether are free.

You deleted shutdown.apk or something went wrong with it. Repush it via ADB.

Is the Stock Memo app available for this ROM? I liked that app, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. Thanks!

Stupid question, mostly because I didn't really pay attention. Was the ThinkFree office app the full version or the lite read only version?

Okay, I tried the method that Paul posted to wipe phone and turn journaling back on. This has definitely helps and I have only a one FC since then. The current problem is that about half of the time when I use the internet, the phone locks up and I have to do a battery pull. Ideas?

Lock ups are usually due to the kernel. Try turning your clock speed down to 1GHz or switching to Vision kernel.

I am running SRF 1.1 along with Baked Snack 2.3 kernel. I have tried flashing the Bionix Black 4.1 theme twice and both times I got nothing but FC's after re-boot. I wiped cache and dalvik cache prior to flashing. What have I missed?

First, how are you going about getting into CWM? If your doing a soft reset (volume up+camera+power) then turning around with (volume down+camera+power) to get into CWM then that will set off data corruption resulting in FC's.

Otherwise shut down normally and then booted into CWM and you have wiped cache/dalvik 3x and still getting FC's then it could be you might need to enable journaling.

Sorry...I should have mentioned that I do have journaling enabled in SRF. I was having problems every few days and having to re-flash but turning on journaling has fixed that.

I did a normal power down and then start up with CWM and I did wipe both cache and dalvik 3X.

Anything else I can try?

Try redownloading a new copy of Bionix Black theme.. Just to see, sometimes downloads to get corrupted.

Otherwise you may want to try a fresh flashing of SRF and try it all again.. With journaling enabled it should be stopping you from having issues, it did for me..

What FC's are you getting exactly?

I downloaded fresh and got the same result. Two FC's immediately on Dialer Storage and Messaging. Also, where the signal strength should show there. is a red X. I also noticed that the Base Band Version is now "Unknown". I tried re-flashing the EC05 modem but same result.

How could flashing a theme screw up the modem?

My problem is that I get a constant sync icon in the notification bar. I went and cleared Google Services Framework and its still there, I stopped it, restarted the phone and its still there!

Both of you try clearing cache and dalvik-cache, then if that doesn't work, Fix Permissions in CWM.

The sync issue has been seen before, and is not ROM-related. If those two steps don't clear it up for you, and you don't sync your contacts with Facebook, remove SnsAccount.apk and SnsService.apk from /system/app. That service occasionally flips out and misbehaves, and has been doing so since the Moment and before.

Cleared cache and dalvik cache again and fix permissions...no luck. After flashing the black bionix theme, the radio is inoperable along with lots of FC's. Strange...both the baseband version and hardware version show "unknown".
