[ROM] Android Open Kang Project- Jelly Bean Style

They had named their bot, Blackdroid... but they just changed the bot's name to SwaggerBot.

And I agree, I'm holding off on AOKP for a bit until things get ironed out a bit more, especially with battery life.

lol that's kinda cool, and kinda funny since that whole thing predates them quite a bit. But cool regardless.

The 8/1 build looks, for all intents and purposes, like an absolute nightmare. If they were any other "group" or "developer"--sans CM, obviously--it could have absolutely sunk them. That's how bad it's looking.

Yup, would have had them wait a few weeks longer before release of their nightlies.

I see you're stirring up the pot in the codename thread... NICE!

Meh, it's clear that there's a bunch of shill posting going on there--which is ok, as long as it's grounded in reason.

That post, clearly, is not.

The CNA threads have been and are still notable for the posters' over-the-top love for the dev and the ROM. I won't be flashing it but am following the xda and RW threads. Lots of entertainment value in those threads.

In my experience, if you're a developer and all you do is kang a bunch of stuff, mix it up, and then throw it out there, then you have little to no actual development talent. It's best to go with the original.

Heck, look at the JB roms. Most of them worth a salt are now using CM10 as a base (which, presumably, CNA does, although they can do what Liquid does and kang from AOKP). There's no way they're actually better than CM10, because think about it--if they weren't talented enough to write it themselves, then how the hell can they legitimately improve upon it?

From what I gather, the "new" CNA is simply CM10 + some AOKP features. Which is nice, I guess. But not only do I want features, I want stability, and quite frankly, I want the best. If you have to resort to kanging everything, then clearly your work is never, ever going to be that--at least for me.

But hey, different strokes. The beauty of Android, humanity, and the interwebs.

(Disclosure: I have yet to look at CNA and will not be looking at it past entertaining myself with the drama of the developer's past misdeeds coming back to haunt him/her/it.)

Wow, I'm WOndering what happened here now..lol..sounds like this guy is Public Enemy #1! Any links to @ thread where I can edify myself on the monstrosity of this dev?

Yeah, it's sort of like with another dev we all know and love. Got in an argument with a very, very...enthusiastic...user of those roms the other day and it basically ended with me stating this:

If you haven't flashed any other rom, how the hell do you know if the one your running is the best?

But alas, people follow things blindly. The CNA thread needs shills b/c one (1) it's probably a lazy and crap rom, (2) because the dev's reputation is so bad only snake oil salesmen would actually want to profess his excellence, and (3) because most folks in those places are...well...a bit blind.

But alas, those are only my opinions :).

I linked to the backstory from CM.. Yesterday in the chatter thread, you can find it there.

This is kind of the topic to the essay I alluded to writing yesterday (about trying new things). I ought to polish that up and post it somewhere... One day... Lol

Well, first off, this is a bit off topic lol. So I will say that I like AOKP because they do the exact opposite of what this dev did, and I'll tie it back in to keep us on course :).

Here's the back story--both of them..

CNA = Blackdroid. Said so himself on Twitter. When the CNA roms debuted a few days ago, the threads were almost immediately locked for review. Looks like he made it out, but if you check through the threads there's quite a bit of drama--b/c of that.

My own experience with CNA is small; I tried it, hated it, found AOKP (ironically). I remember flashing a CNA module for DT's "MORPHR" and loving the power widget. I thought that was odd and familiar. Well, that's b/c it was CM's. So yeah..that led me down the path of discovery.

That's not to say the dev can't rehab himself, but just read through those threads. He/she/it is very dramatic, very upset (usually), and I'll be shocked if they actively update (they stopped at 1.6 due to a variety of drama, some related to the old Ultimate Droid/Blackdroid thing).

With AOKP, everyone knows they take. But the difference is the talent; Roman is extremely talented. Zaphod too. So while they do take bits and pieces, there is legit work behind the scenes, which makes the "failed" nightlies all the more disappointing.

Just to add to the codename nonsense before we go back on topic, lol.. There was also a fiasco a few months ago before he left when he started issuing ridiculous challenges to other ROM devs, who he was kanging from mind you, saying his ROM was better/faster and they should send their users to try codename. I mean kanging others work is one thing (he did give credit, but still, nothing original is just a kang) but you do not turn around and then talk crap about the dev's whose work you are using (ahem.. Liquid).

That is all. :)

You cannot make this stuff up. One of the CNA shills responded to a question about Gapps, and claimed that the Gapps package in the CNA original post was a better choice because it was compiled from source. Wow.

On the topic of AOKP, I stuck with their ICS ROM for over 20 builds because I liked their customizations and that they went about their releases in a methodical way. While you didn't have something to flash every few days, with a few exceptions that I recall, AOKP builds worked well. I get the impression that the AOKP team may be rushing a bit and these "nightlies" are more works in progress than the builds that we were used to with ICS. I expect things to smooth out at some point and look forward to trying their next JB release.

Totally agree, the nightly thing was a bad idea, they need to get back to releasing just stable builds when they are ready, which I have no doubt they will eventually.

Give it a bit of time for AOKP. I trust they will be able to bring stability and performance back to their development. No doubt about that.

what issues are ppl experiencing with 8/1 build? mine seems fine (albeit less buttery)

Data disconnects on LTE when you use the phone (wasn't an issue on 7/29). I use the hotspot so this was causing me problems. Ended up restoring my 7/29 nandroid. And I also like butter. ;-)

Shame too. I may go back to bugless beast for a while.

I used Codename before going to AOKP back when ICS was the in thing lol.

One thing that is driving me nuts on nightly 1 is how slow the buttons respond when dialing a phone number. drives me nuts.

Staying on Milestone 6. I wasn't going to flash any of the nightlies until a stable release was out. I wish it was before I went on vacation on the 20th, but I doubt it. My nexus 7 has JB so I can hold off for a minute till than

Same here, actually B40 for me because my Gnex doesn't like M6. I just flashed EOS JB on Xoom again, after trying AOKP and CM9 before that. I'm real happy with current ROM on Gnex and as my phone I can't see myself flashing something that is not ready. Looks like CM10 may be something I should read about. I'm a sucker for softkey mods in ROMs.

So who hear is sticking with AOKP?

This weekend I may jump ship until AOKP is up to their standards (and ours)....
They do good work so I am not worried about their future.

I liked the JB AOKP N1, but at this point it is far inferior to Euroskank's build. There isn't any customization to the nav bar, but at least you can theme and get different colors if you want.

The stability, speed and butteriness is just great on Euro, plus the battery life and performance with the ROM/stock Kernel seems to be pretty darn legit. I'll DF a few builds of this until something else more alluring pops up.
