no, you can use the built in wifi hotspot also. That app just gives more options

I tryed the rom out it doesn't compare to the original port from cynanogen the quadrant scores on the original was 1351 to 1230 the kraven port scores 1100 to 1200 on 2 different optimus phones some of the cynanogen settings were removed and a funky new lock style was added don't get me wrong the rom is not bad at all just like the original better

Kraven how do i enable vissual voice mail
i flashed it with the gbapps
i didnt flash the original voicemail
just the fix
idk when i check my voicemail its the old call 1
please tell me how to enable

It worked fine without issues, i guess the wife was the expecting the hotspot to turn on automatically whenever our house internet connection was down

Then stick with the original...I've always had lower scores on Kraven, but it doesn't really matter, I love his ROM more and more with every new update. No one is keeping you from using other ROMs.

If quadrant scores are your only criteria for choosing a ROM, you are missing many features that make this one really advanced for such basic hardware, and a pleasure to use.

I've seen a few other ports of cm7, on this phone and official builds on both evo's. Kraven's is just as good considering it runs on such a limited device. Plus loads of extras.

Hello, everybody.

I'm new to this modding stuff and just getting my feet wet. I recently learned that you can replace a kernel on a rom without switching everything else, which is great because I have a Republic Wireless LG Optimus S which has a "custom" CM7 rom that has their proprietary wifi-calling enhancements built in. Because it's a CM7 rom it came rooted with CWM pre-installed, but the kernel they used (the info screen says "anders@box2 #15") does not have any overclocking available or many governor options.

I'd like to swap to a BobzHome or other kernel that has overclocking capabilities and the SmartAssV2 governor, but the only one I could find was for the Optimus V and that reversed my home/menu buttons since the Optimus S is different than the V.

Can someone provide a link where I can download a good kernel for the Optimus S?

You can always use buttonRemapper.apk to fix the button, then you can use that karnal, hopefully .............

Hmm, well, I tried that and ButtonRemapper freezes and does not apply the new settings. I have to pull the battery. I have heard you can remap the buttons manually via a root-capable editor. I will try that.

I couldn't get FileExpert to work for some reason, so I went through the hassle of setting up ADB and eventually got the keys remapped that way. It works. thanks!

I think kraven links to bobzhomes kernel somewhere in the last couple of pages.(sorry I'm a bit late.) If you ever decide to update kernels you could just ask him for a link.

I still have not been able to get MMS working for me. I have tried several options (different iterations of ROM version, Gapps version, etc.) and finally had to revert to stock ROM
I used the official Sprint ZVD downgrade and was able to send/receive MMS messages. Installed Kraven's CM7 and google apps with the VVM/MMS fix and lost MMS.
I REALLY liked using this ROM and I am miserable using the stock ROM. The only reason I really need MMS is because of all my friends and family that use iphones insist on sending PITA multi-messages that are sent as MMS.
I would like someone to please confirm that it is possible to use MMS with this ROM, and any suggestions for help would be greatly appreciated!

When I was running this, I never used any vvm/mms fix and they worked fine. But I use google voice and not visual voice mail so had no need for the fix. I can say, without any additional tweaks, mms works fine with this rom.

Are you both saying that MMS has worked for you by flashing the ROM and Gapps without either the VVM/MMS fix .zip or the Gapps with the fix included?

hlxanthus did not apply the fix, but ran google voice rather than VVM, so he did not need the fix. (hlxanthus, correct me if I'm wrong).

I just did a clean install of 1/16 barebones with 12/14 gapps. Was able to send 2 MMS picture messages but unable to download a newly received pic

EDIT: FWIW I had been using Google voice before I realized that I was missing MMS messages from iphone users. I kind of assumed that using Gvoice was preventing me from receiving these messages. Perhaps that was not the case? Is it possible to use Google voice and still receive MMS?
