S6 Edge - Screen rotation does not work properly

I have an S6 Edge and my screen rotation is just fine, although now that AT&T has the regular S6 128GB available I am swapping back to that it will be here on Monday. I just don't feel the Edge is worth the extra money or aggravation in finding accessories. Still its been solid, no battery drain issues, no screen issues, no issues at all, except for the sucky bootup sound AT&T puts on it.

That's what I wanted to do but dang!
This phone looks cool!

Anyway, I've had my GS5 for almost a year in the same clear case and I work in construction.
It has been dropped, accidentally of course, several times from different highs.
So far it's fine.

I've already ordered a clear case for this GS6E and a leather case.
Hope they will protect it.

Glad verizon said it was a software issue! Did not want to replace it again! But im glad I did the first time because the white version of the phone looks badasz with my case!!

To disable the bootup sound, try the app called silent boot.

This fast charger/slow charger labeling stuff is getting ridiculous. This isn't a rogue charger, its the charger that came in the box. Yes its a fast charger buts its the OEM charger for the S6. No where do they tell you go out and buy a slow charger or use this one only under certain conditions to be safe. This is meant to be the everyday charger for the phone. For the millions of phones their going to sell, this is the only charger the majority of people are ever going to use, doesn't matter if they needed a quick charge or not, this is it, whether anybody wants to believe it or not. Yes I understand the chip theory, the bad one burns out and if you have a good chip theres no issues. But people refusing to use the charger? This was one of the main selling points with the phone. Why would anybody even want to keep a phone their going to have to baby and walk on egg shells with the whole time. Because their afraid it might break for using the OEM charger? If thats the case just return it now because your saying theres a defect and a design flaw. You have people here saying the rotation didnt work out of the box, wheres the charger/heat theory there?

I'd like to add to that the people who had phones overheat like crazy (me) and NOT have a rotation issue.

According some of the reports, you should contact Samsung Support at 1-800-samsung. Has anyone contact them to see what they have to say about this?

i did,

they were no help at all. i told her that this was my second device to crap out and she still treated me like an ***** saying "are you sure its not the auto rotate button is unchecked?" i explained to her that this is a known issue and this is my second device that i have ALREADY done trouble shooting with sprint, to include a factory reset. she still had me test the auto rotate button...even in safe mode... i asked to speak to a manager and she told me that there was not one available.

as for the quick charge... i dont think that is the issue. my wife has had her phone (same as mine s6 edge 64) since launch and we use the same quick charger almost the same amount. hers is still working fine and im about to be on my 3rd device.

That doesn't bode well for Samsung Support, not good way to treat customers. And I thought Motorola Customer Service is bad!

Spoke with Samsung and they said that it is an Android software issue. Google knows about it and that it will be fixed in the 5.0.3 code version once released. (of course verizon has to approve the software update as well)

Samsung says that it's a problem with Android? Whoever you talked to does not know what they are talking about and I call BS on it. Android does not interact with the low level hardware directly. Android has to work with a variety of hardware, including tablets. Samsung must provide the low level code for their particular phone model. If what they said was true, then why would most Samsung Galaxy S6 edges work using the same version of Android? Only a small percentage of units fail. Next time you talk to Samsung, tell them their statement defies logic.

Can you not just take the phone back to a Sprint store for a replacement? Thank goodness I got mine at Best Buy. They replaced the first 2 units with no problems. I'm on my 3rd one and it's been working fine for over 17 days (knock on wood).

I used quick charge and wireless charging with my first edge and had the rotation issue. I got a new one and didn't touch either quick charge/wireless and no problems at all.

Doesn't sound like a software issue to me. There is a mechanical device in the phone that operates the rotation. Why would software cause the problem on "some" but not on all of the devices if it's the same software drivers running the hardware?

Makes no sense to me. Maybe the heat issues on some phones is just exposing a flaw in a certain batch of hardware, whereas, others who do not have heat issues just get the problem because of the flawed hardware itself, and others who DO have the heat issue have good hardware that keeps on working?

I think it's hardware. However, if someone with the rotation problem hangs on to their phone and a patch is released that fixes the rotation problem...then I will stand corrected! ;)

same thing is happening with my S5. youtube fullscreen rotates fine, but then when i go back to chrome or facebook app the screen is STUCK in horizontal. i have to close all apps to get back to vertical. all my photos and videos are vertical. annoying as f*ck!

I can tell you it is being caused by the quick charger. I have a note edge and use the quick charger with no issue and my wife has the s6 edge and has never used the quick charger and never had the issue. She wanted me to change some things on her phone so I plugged it into the quick charger on my side of the bed and within 5 minutes her phone had the issue. Called sprint and had it replaced and new phone has not been plugged into the quick charger and it is still working so I took her quick charger and brought it to work so she does not accidentally use it.

I'm on my 2'd Edge with the stuck auto rotation. Spoke with a US Cellular tech rep today who said bring it to a US Cellular store and they would send it back to SAMSUNG for me, and reactivate my old s4 in the meantime. (Offered a loaner phone if I didn't have one.) She called back within 5 minutes to let me know that Samsung will be releasing an update in about 2 weeks with a patch to fix the faulty Edge devices. I plan on waiting for the download since it would take SAMSUNG that long to return the phone anyway. Hope this information helps.

A patch is coming in about 2 weeks according to US Cellular's latest communication from Samsung. I'll wait for that instead of returning my second defective Edge and keep my fingers crossed it will work.

A patch is coming to fix a hardware problem? That will be interesting. I've used my quick charger on my 64GB Edge for two weeks, no problem until last night. Bang, now screen won't rotate of course. Weird. I don't like weird.
