Sprint S3: Wicked Sensations 5.0

Re: Wicked Sensations 5.0

I've been on this ROM for over a month, and to tell you the truth my phone has out performed my wife's Sprint SGS3 in every area. My phone was faster, battery life longer, and just looked better. Now there are quite a few kernels out there that can be flashed that affect battery life, amongst other things, but that is the joy of having a custom ROM: experimentation and learning about Android.

I was speaking of my wife's phone in the past tense earlier because she is now on this ROM for many of the same reasons I and others are. Additionally, there are many apps in the play store that allow root users to tweak their kernel for many reasons including battery saving reasons. Ultimately, the choice to go back stock is your decision, but for me I like the choice to do what I want with my phone and without the restrictions imposed by the carriers (i.e., bloatware, ads and Samsung's Knox on 4.3).

One last thing: there's always the option of flashing to more of a pure AOSP experience with a ROM like CyanogenMod or some of the other stripped down, lightweight ROMs. By doing this you can, in essence, build your own ROM with just the basics. The choices are endless. :-)

I'm going to hold out and see if things get better. I'm hopeful that I can get this issue resolved. Yes, the choices are endless but I don't want to be endlessly looking to fix things here and there, lol! I'm just being lazy I suppose.

Re: Wicked Sensations 5.0

I ALWAYS use poweramp in the morning on my commute to work. My commute to work is usually about an hour. On stock (4.1.2) I would usually have between 94-96% battery life when I got to work. Today, when I got to work, I was at 82%. I'm trying to figure out what may be doing this but I've been fine combing everything I put in this damn phone, lol! I'm hoping its something I can fix because I like the rom. If I can't resolve this, I may just end up giving up and going to 4.3 stock (non-rooted) completely. I guess I need good battery life for my daily driver.

Are you using the dkp kernel that is baked in the ROM? If so, you may want to try out the stock kernel that is in myHub.

Hi seanskiT1,

Is that kernel in Dazednconfused's 4.1.2 Android version (Wicked v5.0) myHub or in his 4.3 version? I have only flashed 4.3 once and was one of the few that had root issues, but in any case I just wanted to know for my own reference.

Just checked and yes, I have the dkp kernel that came baked in. I'll give the stock kernel a go after some reboots. I've only rebooted once since I installed the rom because the first install was kind of wonky. Notification bar wasn't there and access to certain things were invisible. I think when I put in my wifi and started to DL my apps automatically, it may of been overwhelmed leading to the wonkiness. So I rebooted once and everything was fine until todays battery life issue. Perhaps a reboot or two should correct whatever may be the issue, hopefully! Thanks for your help!

He had in one in the myHub on 4.1.2, it was MD4 kernel, the one in the 4.3 myHub is the MK3 stock kernel.

That is possible. Since I have flashed the ROM I have run the kernel that is baked in, dkp 12-26 build of the same kernel and I have just flashed the stock kernel to try out and see how it does. So far I have noticed a lil more battery drain with the dkp kernel, the 12-26 build seemed to be a little better. Gonna let the stock kernel run a day or 2 and see how it does.

I can't find any kernels in myHub for 4.1.2, but then again, I've had some issues with it; this includes both my wife's phone and mine. Oh well, no big deal, I'll just wait for some more of the bugs in 4.3 Wicked to get squashed -- mainly the unroot issues. My first flash on 4.3 unrooted my phone and then wouldn't get past boot (i.e., stuck in boot loop). It just sucks to have to Odin back to stock, re-root etc. on your daily driver. :-) :O ;-)

If you need one for 4.1.2, I can get one into dropbox for ya. Have them on my laptop. As far as the root issue when flashing 4.3, did you do the really clean install and what recovery are you on?

Yes, I did a clean flash (i.e., wipe data, cache and Dalvik cache). It may sound anal, but I always do a clean flash on most everything, even on many installs where the developer says not to do so. I've just been kind of sitting back and watching the threads on 4.3 to see if I notice the issues dropping off, plus I am waiting on some themes.

And yes, if you don't mind passing on that kernel I would appreciate it.

Oh, almost forgot, I used the newest version of TWRP at the time I did my 4.3 flash. Usually I use CWM Touch.

I'm going to run dkp kernel for a little while to see if it gets better. If I decide to go to MK3 kernel, is there any way of getting back to DKP?

Decimal man has a thread on xda. There is a link in Dazed's op.

Here is the MD4 kernel

As far as 4.3. When I flashed I did those wipes and system, internal storage.

Re: Wicked Sensations 5.0

myHUB crashes every time I try to install a mod. Anyone have that issue or know a fix? Thanks.

Re: Wicked Sensations 5.0

Ok so I flashed the MK3 stock kernel from my hub and also ran Xposed installer and updated Framework for MW manager and Wanam Xposed and now my phone doesn't recognize my SD card. I've rebooted a few times and it still doesnt see my sd card. Is there something I'm missing here?

I'm not sure what happened here. I do know there has been a history of these phones and sd cards not getting along all the time. I would put the card into something else and check to see if the card is still good. I had flashed the stock kernel last week and had no issue there, I've since gone back to the dkp kernel. If the card is good, while you have it out, back it up and then put it back in the phone and see what happens.

I also read a lot through the XDA WS thread and saw that as well. The funny thing was that battery life did seem to improve for the 2 days that I had it. I tried uninstalling Framework to see if that might clear things up but no go. Took my SD card out and it worked and everything was in there so I knew it was a problem with the rom/kernel. Anyway, I do like WS but for now, I'm back to stock 4.1.2. I may go back and try again when Dazed updates the rom. Thank goodness for nandroid backups!! lol!

Whatever causes this issue isn't ROM related....I've seen this issue across the board, stock, rooted and various custom ROMs. Since the card is working, you could try re-formatting the sd card.
