T-Mobile: Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Order Thread

3 different shipping options. Ground was the cheapest and probably the default. No free shipping for this launch.

Why did they stop free shipping? Ground? WTF. And they charge more than samsung.com too with that silly assist fee.

We are still on Simple Choice. Are you on the T-Mobile One plan? If so, how are you WiFi hotspot speeds on LTE for your tethered devices? Are you happy with the plan?

T-Mobile is telling me I have to switch to T-Mobile One plan to take advantage of the Note 8 BOGO.

Wasn't directed at me, but I'll answer. Hotspot speeds seem fine, though I haven't done rigorous tests.

I love T-mobile One, BUT, I got the plan on a promo and got two lines with free HD video streaming. Right now, HD video costs ($25?) extra, which to me makes it not worth it. I guess you'll want to decide if this is important to you.

Thanks for your input (and the other 2 previously, thank you as well). Regarding the Hotspot speeds on my Simple Choice there is no prioritization of cellular data usage over that of connected Hotspot devices nor is there reduced speeds for connected Hotspot devices. So, if my phone is pulled saying 30Mbps downstream and 15Mbps, all of my Hotspot connected devices also will. This is not the case with T-Mobile one; connected devices will pull only 3G speeds, unless... you pay at least $10 per month extra [ref].

Today I spoke with T-Mobile customer service and an in store sales representative regarding the BOGO, so here is what I was consistently told between the two:
  • Pay $210 down + taxes
  • Apply for Mastercard rebate card for $930 online via tmobile.com/promotions (wait at least 24 hours after receiving the device)
  • The promotional code for this BOGO is not customer / order specific
  • Rebate card will be received in about 8 weeks for $930 (probably more like $929.99)
  • Additional line added required for promo
  • Pay for BOGO Note 8 in-store with rebate card

Here are the inconsistencies between the two:

Customer Service: After satisfying the EIP agreement (e.g., paying of the BOGO Note 8) you can terminate the additional line.

VS

Sales Representative: Recommends terminating the additional line not earlier than 4 months.

Customer Service: BOGO Note 8 has to be used on the additional line.

VS

Sales Representative: BOGO Note 8 can be used on any line, additional line can simply not be used.

In store sales cannot give you free shipping at all. Customer service, can, and will if you ask and certainly if you have tenure with T-Mobile with an account in good standing for said tenure. So, the customer service representative absolutely will give me free UPS Next Day Air Saver shipping. I would have to pay an additional $20 since I am not doing a JUMP! (because I own my current phone). T-Mobile can do a JUMP! from that, but then I have to give this phone back to them (um... why would I do that?). So the same customer service representative will call me on Monday at noon after speaking with her supervisor about having that $20 fee waived for me anyway (for which she sounded pretty certain it will not be an issue).

If it turns out that I hate the Note 8 (doubtful, but possible since I did not like Note 4 - too large for one handed operation and I was on travel every week for my job so no go for flight information there) I can simply sell it for a minimum of $700 2 or even 3 months from now and simply buy whatever device I choose at that point.

Lastly, both customer service and the sales representative still state that all Note 8 pre-orders will not be shipping to customers until Sept 13 - Sept 15. Neither of them was aware however that Verizon and Sprint pre-orders have already shipped destined to be delivered to their customers on Sept 5.

I just signed up for this BOGO deal as well. I was told in the store to wait 4 months before closing the newly opened line. The rep said he has seen people close the line before that and the people were charged again for the phone even after getting the visa card. It usually didn't happen, but he has seen it and said they don't check more than 4 months after.

Also, I was in knowingly given ground shipping and I called T-Mobile customer care to see if I could upgrade shipping and was told I couldn't do that without camcellingvrhe order and starting over. So I jist left my order the way it is.

I was hoping T Mobile would hold to form. But I guess not. No.status change since the 30th, at this point I will not expect any change until after Tuesday morning if even then.

To Sprint/Verizon folks.....enjoy the Note 8 when they arrive early.....you lucky bastards.

I have next day air. I'm on vaca. Until Friday. Wondering if it is worth a risk to redirect to the local ups store in my vaca town. Live in OH. Phone will ship from KY. Vaca is in NC. I called the local UPS store here IN nc they get redirects all the time

Just remember, updates can be behind the actual movements. For the S8, I had one phone showing picked up and moving to MI. The other phone just sat there awaiting pickup. By the next day, they were both showing out for delivery.
I'm not expecting mine by 9/5 since I selected standard shipping. However, I do expect them to ship around the same time.

I wasn't given the choice and decided not to say anything because standard was fine with me. I'm hoping shipping next week, at least.

Off topic of Note 8, on topic of UPS... Earlier this week I received my warranty replacement for my Logitech keyboard. On Fri Aug 25 it was in the state of Order Processed: Ready for UPS. Origin scan was not until Mon Aug 28 and Tue Aug 29 at almost 22 hours late was its departure scan. Logitech never sent me the tracking number until the day I received the keyboard on my doorstep. The important part: the UPS app not once notified me of the new shipment (which, in the past for years, it always has). Of course I had push notifications turned on and of course text notifications just in case. Hoping this is the case here...

Is the release dates still the same.....just heard Samsung is giving out tracking numbers also....would this mean we could get ours early?
