T-Mobile: Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Order Thread

I know I'm not going to make any friends with this post, but after seeing this happen so many times I have to put this out there.

Please understand, I have been on JOD for years and always pre-order the newest flagships, so I have TONS of experience with this. Those who have also been through this with the Note 7 and other flagship phones can attest to this:

They are not shipping your phones. It doesn't matter if your card was charged, your IMEI was issued, UPS received the information for the shipment, or UPS shows an estimated delivery date (looking at you, Sprint customers)

It doesn't matter how many email T-Mobile sent you about the shipping charge going through, your updated agreement, or text messages about it getting ready to ship. It's not happening.

For those of us who have been with T-Mobile for years, we all know what happened, but for those of you that don't, here is the deal:

T-Mobile used to ship their pre-orders early - I mean really early, and before all the other carriers. When T-Mobile continued to do this with Samsung Flagship phones (esp. the S7 & S7 Edge), it started to become an issue - other carriers started crying about it to Samsung, because it made them look bad when T-Mobile delivered earlier than they did. So Samsung changed the rules - the carriers were not allowed to ship until a set date given by Samsung, "or else". Hence the Note 7 pre-order thread choas, very similar to what you are seeing here. Samsung will only allow carriers to ship 2 days before the release date, which is why you see estimated ship dates of Sept. 13th-15th officially from T-Mobile.. however, they will likely start shipping the 12th because T-Mobile is still T-Mobile and they always try to skirt the rules a little bit.

However, do not expect anything to ship before the 12th. The only way this would change is if Samsung themselves allow it, because they shipped their former Note 7 owners phones already.. otherwise not only will the carriers make Samsung themselves look bad, but then the former Note 7 owners will be up in arms complaining that they didn't get theirs "first" as promised directly on Samsung's website.

Excitement is great, and I'm right there with you - but the constant checking of UPS to see if your shipment status changed is just a waste of time. If you really can't help yourself, just check in the wee morning hours of the 13th - you will see movement then, guaranteed. Anything before that would be an anomaly based on current practices.

Just my two cents. Hope I'm wrong here, but I don't think so.

I have been through everything you have, and agree with you 100 percent. But.... I hope you're wrong lol

Well said! The only thing that keeps me on edge is that, compared to last year, the recent events seemed to have happened earlier than they did last year, which gives me only a slight bit of hope that we'll see them a few days early. I don't know that they'd basically hold the phone in a "shipped" status and "awaiting for pickup) status for close to 2 weeks. Last year if I recall correctly they did this about a week prior. So that's my glimmer of hope lol.

You may be right. And I am just not remembering the Note7 issue as well as you.

I know this is a pre-order thread, but could someone answer a quick question for me? I'm switching to TMobile this week, and I was just told by a rep on the phone that they no longer offer JOD unless you already have it. Is this true?

That would be odd since they just increased the jump frequency from 3 to 12 times a year. Check with TForce on Twitter @tmobilehelp for the definitive answer. It wouldn't be the first time a TMO phone rep was incorrect.

I had regular jump on my one phone when I did the chat window to preorder the Note 8 they were able to give me that on jump on demand and just removed the jump from my other phone

Not true. I just got JoD for note 8.

Not true at all, signed up for JOD yesterday.

Not true. I just signed up for JOD and pre-ordered the Note 8 yesterday. One thing about T-Mobile - the call center reps, for the most part, are idiots. You'll get a different answer for the same question from three different reps. Call back again and speak with someone different. Yesterday, the first rep I spoke with tried to tell me the JOD cost for the Note 8 was $210 and $30 per month for 24 months. I told her that was incorrect and that was the EIP price. She argued with me until I asked for a supervisor, at which point she came back and apologized for giving me incorrect information. FWIW, that was not an english speaking rep, so I assume the call center was busy and it rolled over to an overseas call center. I called back later and spoke with a regular T-Mobile rep, and my order was done in less than 5 minutes.

Zero down right, 39/no? That's what mine is

I have a feeling that our phones might be delivered by today EOD or else on 5th/6th. Because i just checked my email history for the Galaxy S8+ Pre order, Processing, Shipping strategy from T Mobile. I got my EIP email on 18th, Order Payment Processing on 19th & Delivery on 19th EOD. Also, the UPS Status was right from Order Processing to Delivery (with 3 days Package timeline).

So until not EIP email, Order Processing Email & Package Shipped UPS tracking everything is still on the same strategy of my s8+. So Hoping that either the phone will be delivered by today EOD or else by 6th (Because T Mo COE has Next Uncarrier launch thing on 6th).

Are you a rookie?

Well said. Maybe this can calm everyone down from checking their MYUPS app every six minutes. I got my S7 edge 2 weeks before the release date. Obviously, like you said, that ruffled the feathers of the other carriers and Samsung stepped in for future pre-orders. As with the Note 7 and the S8, they shipped and we received devices a day before the actual scheduled release date. It will be the same with the Note 8. I also don't think the demand is as high for the Note 8 as with the Note 7. If you remember, the Note 7 shipping dates slipped pretty quickly. I pre-ordered my Note 8 yesterday, a week after the opening of pre-orders, and the shipping estimates were still the same. There isn't much differentiation between the Note 8 and the S8+, with the exception of the dual camera setup and the S Pen. The fact that you can get an S8+ unlocked for almost $300 less than the Note 8 could have something to do with the lower demand.

I am a bit irritated. So I get that Samsung is allowing trade in's to offset the price of the Note but they totally and completely forgot about those of us that bought S8's! I have an S8 that I love but still...I am getting a Note 8. I am just irritated that the S8 isn't eligible to trade in......

Anyone else a bit upset about this?????

It's likely because there isn't a trade market for the S8 yet. When I signed up for JOD yesterday, I asked if I could trade in my S8, and they checked the IMEI and said there is no trade value for the S8 yet. Sell it on Swappa. You'd get more than you would in a trade.

Definitely agree with you about tempering our excitement because of previous years, but the weird thing is that Sprint and Verizon are now showing 9/5 for a delivery date. That's the thing that gives me some hope that this will be sooner than later. Not like either of those carriers to be so speedy with preordered phones.
