Thunderbolt Pre Announcement Waiting Room & Availability Thread.

This is a copy and paste of an email directly from my corporate account VZW rep (who...I've been dropping mad hints about getting me a Tbolt...)
Nothing out of the ordinary....believe what you will.
(I too have read hundreds and hundreds of posts of where, when, etc.)

I did find out the xoom is coming out on the 24th, and the thunderbolt should be available at the end of the month!

You all understand that this is probably the best marketing strategy of all time. If none of you cared you would've gone out and bought a shiny new Atrix. Its actually genius because they make you so addicted and so attracted to it we all come here and cry and complain and go to our BB and VZ store reps and yell at them. Everyone needs to stop acting like they're not going to run like hell for a retailer when it does comes out lol.

Thunderbolt Mainfesto

I've had two very revealing conversations with VZW phone reps (*611) and a store rep (Northfield, NJ... Listed as the Atlantic City Superstore) What follows is what I heard (you don't want to miss this!) and what I THINK.

What I've heard (Call to *611 on 2/22/11 at 4:55 pm EST) I spoke with Stephanie. I asked if there was any news about the Thunderbolt. She said "Let me check HTC's Website (long pause) Nope, nothing new" I asked "Wait, you go on the web to find out?" to which she replied "Yes, I am excited about this phone" I asked her if she didn't have better channels through which to get information, working for Verizon Wireless and all... "No. They don't tell us anything until the day of release... sometimes the day before. I wouldn't have known we were getting the iPhone until the 10th unless I had visited the VZW website and seen the commercials for myself" I told her to "Walk upstairs and tell Mickey (Mouse) that's no way to keep the people that help us informed" She agreed. People on this site and others have told stories of walking into VZW stores with their new Incredible and the salespeople asking "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT??" so the fact that VZW employees are just as much in the dark as we are shouldn't be news.

Call to Northfield, NJ store on 2/23/11, 9:10 am) I forget his name. "Any new news on the Thunderbolt?" "There was a rumor that we would be selling them tomorrow, but we haven't gotten them yet, so that's not happening" I replied that "since I am without a phone as of tomorrow, I will either have to switch companies and grab the Atrix, or buy an iPhone4 and return it when the Thunderbolt launches" He replied that he doesn't "think it will be more than an week or two now, I saw a commercial last night, and I'm watching it on the computer right now" I ask if it's the one with the guy on the rooftops and he says "Yeah, and the phone is on a pedestal that get hits by lightning"

I think we can abandon the threads dedicated to VZW and BB salespeople. It's painfully apparent that they won't know anything until we do, or slightly before. To continue to ask them questions and post responses is folly.

Now, my thoughts. I've said this before, but it bears repeating. Last year Verizon kept touting the Droid X 2.2 update as coming in the "Summer" The update arrived on the 22nd of September... the last CALENDAR date of summer. Even though with the start of school and the change in temperatures, WE considered summer over, the calendar said otherwise, and VZW and Motorola patted themselves on the back because they made their deadline.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. This is high school level psychology. That said, the impending Q1 release of the Thunderbolt will be seen by Verizon as a Major success if they release the phone in the 31st of March. I'll save you the trouble of checking your calendars... it's a Thursday.

I'm not saying I'm right, but with every day that goes by without anything official, we are PROBABLY a week away from launch at minimum. Right now that puts launch on the 3rd at the earliest. If we hit the weekend with nothing, then we're at the 10th. It's not hard to see how the company that has remained COMPLETELY mum on this phone for 7 weeks now could do so for 3 or 4 more weeks, pushing it out to 3/31/11, and still being able to pat themselves on the back having met their stated release time frame.

Ignore the trolls that start with "My buddy..." "My email..." They are making accounts and playing head games. It's fun for them. Don't feed them. I would also ignore the "insiders" that tell us about emails and delays without providing the slightest evidence of either.

Let's talk about features, future ROMS, apps that will be great on that 4.3" screen, and other productive topics. At this point, I wouldn't believe a screen shot of an email with a release date on it. I will believe the phone is coming when I see it here: http://news.vzw.com/news/index.html Until then, remain calm, or take your business elsewhere. Those are our only choices. I haven't decided which road to take.

I think it's pretty clear it isn't, but I don't think it's productive to gang up on anyone that comes in here to relay something they were told or know.

I have some pretty tight connections inside Verizon and Sprint with very credible credentials, and as with every phone or software release, official release dates are not official until the minute the carrier puts out a press release. Until that happens Verizon QA is doing as much thorough testing as they can to circumvent massisve returns and technical support calls because of some issue they have found. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the intended release date was the 24th, and that something significant enough to piss customers off was discovered. So I ask, would you prefer to get the phone tomorrow and live with, lets say, a faulty camera, or wait another week and not have to complain about that?

Regardless, I wouldn't be doing my job, unless I told everyone to stop with the fat attacks (I mean really? Just PM me and ask me to ban you instead), picking on the noobies who come in here to share in the excitement, and going all postal over a piece of technology that you will likely have in your hands within the next 7 days. If you think someone is full of BS, then just ignore them like you are me right now :p

First off, Verizon's QA fails. They have had this device for 3 months. If they are just now finding a major issue then they need to do more thorough testing earlier on in the life cycle. It should never have gotten to a point where Best Buy had it in ads. That's just insane.

I would rather have a working device of course, as would everyone else, but I think it's a pretty sad state of affairs that they are having so many problems with a device that shares many of the same properties as an already released device. (No, I'm not saying it's just an EVO with LTE, but it's similar).

I also agree it doesn't make sense to hammer newbies but to some degree it's expected when there are countless threads and posts stating the same things.

What I think worsens the situation is that these "reliable" sources that pointed to the 24th have suddenly gone quiet. Does that mean they aren't so reliable? Or as knowledgeable as we'd think? If it's not the 24th, there is a new date. What is it? There is no way Verizon is walking around with no target date. How do you march to something if there is no goal?

No flaming intended.

what is the current VZW return / exchange policy? At Best Buy, they said I could return the phone / cancel service (new line) within 14 days but could exchange the phone within 30 days - and no restocking fees. Is it different at VZW? The last time I got a phone at VZW was in Sept and they had a restocking fee at that time.
