Thunderbolt Pre Announcement Waiting Room & Availability Thread.

I'm sorry... I don't see how two short phone calls and 5 minutes of typing qualifies as not having a life. If you don't like what I have to say, fine. You don't have to be ignorant about it.

Now go back to hiking, swimming, climbing, flying your private jet, running your Fortune 500 company and whatever other things you do that make your life fuller than mine.

You made a totally pointless thread full of information everyone already knows. Go you!

Can't say who told me, but you all know how I am about unsourced rumors. I wouldn't be stating it here if it wasn't true.

Feb. 24. HTC Thunderbolt.

That is all.

Don't wait for the alerts to come. I am still waiting for mine from last year's VZW debackle with the much delayed Omnia 2 release. Not only was there no updates but I never got a email even after the official release. So I wouldn't count on VZW's commitment to efficient customer communication. They can't even keep their own employees in the loop. I promised myself last year I would never get obsessed with a phone launch again, but here I am AGAIN.

I signed up for Xoom alerts from Moto and VZW and never got em and it is out tomorrow.

Just sayin.

What I think worsens the situation is that these "reliable" sources that pointed to the 24th have suddenly gone quiet. Does that mean they aren't so reliable? Or as knowledgeable as we'd think? If it's not the 24th, there is a new date.

I work the forums, not the blog, so what I'm about to say is pure speculation based on years of observations of past phone releases.

<Android Central forums Admin hat off> "Sources" vary in reliability based on their position within a company. Some dude at Verizon or Best Buy Xeroxing promotional flyers is probably a low grade source. No offense to them, but store employees, retail outlets, and customer service reps would also fit into this category. Dig a little deeper in the trenches, and you'll find more credible information based on how their role impacts the final signoff of the product: QA Engineers, Marketing Employees, Product Managers (very high grade), all the way up to the CEO have varying levels of impact and knowledge. I have absolutely zero idea where Phil's info came from, but I can tell you, based on my observations of both OS and Device release dates, he has never posted anything that came from a low grade source. Other sites may, but my observation is that AC avoids that at all costs. I've yet to see AC jump on the bandwagon of publishing "date of the day" stories. My guess is, if his source gave him new information he would pass it along. So, it's not that his source lacked credibility to begin with. Instead something may have changed, but maybe his original source is not able or willing to give him the info they once did. And remember it isn't the 24th yet. Who knows what could happen.

All that said the final bullet proof information is going to be in form of a Verizon press release. Not commercials, nor promotional materials, nor predictions</AC Forums Admin back on>.

BTW: I really appreciate your last post. I've always said, I'll stay out of productive debates (in fact I tend to stay out of them), but personal attacks are one of my pet peeves, and will most certainly trigger me to make one of my rare appearances.

what is the current VZW return / exchange policy? At Best Buy, they said I could return the phone / cancel service (new line) within 14 days but could exchange the phone within 30 days - and no restocking fees. Is it different at VZW? The last time I got a phone at VZW was in Sept and they had a restocking fee at that time.

It's 14 days now, and they have a restocking fee. I've heard the restocking fee is $70, which is ridiculous.

also keep in mind phil's source said 2/24 on 2/10, just because it is probably not coming out tomorrow doesnt mean it wasnt accurate, it very well could have pushed again or been delayed again. Things change as we all know.

If the engineers working on the phone and/or the network don't know when the phone is going to be ready, nobody does. That is a simple concept people need to get through their skulls.

Recognizing this is hearsay, and a low-grade source at that, here is what I experienced today:

- I went to Best Buy to consider pre-ordering. The manager there told me -- definitively -- that there was no launch tomorrow, and that VZW has delayed it with no date suggested. Disappointing, but he could be wrong, right?

-- I then walked a few doors over to the VZW retail outlet. The manager there told me that when the Tbolt launches, they will open early. They are not opening early tomorrow (Thursday the 24th).

Flame away. Or ignore as not a good enough source. You could very well be correct. I really don't know.

As much as I don't fault Phil for reporting what he heard from his source, shouldn't there be some kind of retraction or update on the Androidcentral.com blog? His announcement that that he "confirmed" the date for the 24th was featured on the blog linking to this thread; isn't it only fair to update your readers when you are wrong or when circumstances change?

If you want to be taken seriously as a source for news and inside information, you should retract your statements when they are wrong with the same force that you post them in the first place.

Did anyone else here get excited about the original Xperia back in 2008? Now that was a long wait. It was announced at MWC and didn't ship until October! The promised North American version came in November 2009 - 22 months after announcement! Needless to say, I gave up on that one after a couple months.

1. Your lying
or
2. "Rep" is full of poop

i attached an image...somehow i don't see it...My sis works for best buy in Connecticut and she says they already have the phone on shelves. I don't know whats going on. I have not seen the phone in hand so I will have to do some research..Seems walmart and bestbuy are always the first ones to get stuff...not sure why.

Verizon rep offered to call me on 02/24/11

I just got off the phone with a VZW rep. I inquired about updating my device since I was already past my new every two. I said I would like to upgrade my plan, but that I wanted the TB which was not listed as an available device to upgrade to. The rep said "let me check for you sir...I see that most all VZW stores will infact have the TB tomorrow (2/24) and that If I would like to take advantage of ordering over the phone, you could get one months free with the phone and that she would call me on 2/24 to complete the order". I was like "wow! really?" She said she could not garantee that the VZW stores in my area will infact have it and that she would be more than happy to call me and place the order. When I asked how soon I could receive it, she stated 2-3 days.

Not sure if anyone else had similar experiences, I just thought i'd post this to see if anyone else has anything to chime in on about it. I thought it was rather weird that of the 5-6 calls I had made previously about the TB, no one ever offered to call me back on any one date (or give any info for that matter).

It seems like bloggers are kind of like weathermen -- they're not really journalists, but they provide a service similar to the news. We all want to know what the weather is going to be but accept the fact that those who predict it are rarely right until the day before. Same with release dates, seems funny though to have "confirmed" in the title thread. Maybe it should be "suggested" :)
