Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

So i just called Verizon and chatted with a lady about the loyalty promo, which she was able to find after some nudging to keep looking. I am currently in a month to month situation with my unlimited data - not under a current contract (which i'm not sure matters or not). When i inquired about the year extension pushing out the date that the extra $20 would be added to my bill, she said that it would not push the date out and would still increase next month. The added minutes/texts were of no interest to me, so I declined the promo as it would lock me in to Verizon for another year with no real benefit. This seemed to contradict what i have read here... unless i'm missing something.

I'll be getting my Nexus 6p soon so I guess its time to go shopping around for the best deal with other carriers. If only Verizon offered something between 6 and 12GBs on their different Verizon Plans. I feel burned by this whole increase. Its a crock.

Don't listen to the rep, just get them to add the 100 minutes or texts... This will automatically add the contract regardless of what they say.

She said that yes it added the year contract, but being in that contract did not impact the $20 increase that was coming. Maybe i'll try calling again in a bit to see if i get a different answer.

Unless you plan on leaving Verizon within the next year, I would just get it...might not help but won't hurt anything.

That is interesting because the guy I spoke to said that as long as you are on contract that the increase wouldn't take place. He even called it a smart move, like he didn't even think about it.

Just got my udp extended a year.. just dail *611 and tell them to put you on the promotion of of 100 extra minutes or texts by doing this it will extend your contract by one year.. The customer service representative gave me both promotions but was only able to extend my contact by a year.

Good Luck Everyone!

Add me to the list of successes. Thanks so much alxarambula (don't know how you knew this), and to the others who reported back with encouragement that they got it too.

The rep I got from calling 611 and requesting the 100 free minutes and texts just took over and got me both the 100 free minutes and texts promotions, and the all-important 1-year contract extension.

She looked under my account for a promotion, didn't see it there, and then said she had another place to look, et voila. She asked which I wanted, I said texts, she said she'd see if she could get both, said she needed to apply them separately, got both, but said I'd have to go another year in contract, to which I quickly said, "That's fine."

This may be a stretch, but I was prepared to use the word "merit," hoping that it's a magic keyword. Maybe that will work if your rep can't find the promotion? I'm calling it a stretch, because I found it in an October, 15, 2015 update to a 2006 post on a previous 100 free minutes promotion (it's all I could find googling "Verizon 100 free minutes texts"):

"Update: Consumerist says that this offer is valid, but only for “merit” customers."

Ah, nice to have no worries for another year. At which time I'll just see if dpham00's 6GB/$30 code still works. Thanks dpham00, you've contributed a lot of good stuff in this thread, much appreciated.

Verizon max 6gb code is 79398

Sorry, so you are under contract and extended it? Or you were out of contract and put back in?

It's "B", out of contract and put back in. My bad, I should have included that info.

My contract ended July, 2013 (like many of us who signed up for UDP during the last days it was offered). I've made no changes since then until today, have been buying phones outright from other sources. I don't remember ever before checking my contract end date, but I assume yesterday it would have said July 10, 2013, or "out of contract" or something. Today it says 10/16/16. (Strangely not 10/27/16, which is a year from today's phone call--maybe it has something to do with my monthly payment date of the 15th.)

So, am I still able, at least, to get a phone on my mom's line, and then just move it to mine? Cause come the holidays I'm going to just buy her a Iphone 5/5s on swappa assuming there's a good BB Note 4 deal.

You could move to a loyalty family plan like the 550 minute plan which would require a one year contract.

Otherwise, you could have them separate the unlimited data lines, apply the promotion and then join the lines again.

Depending on the rest of your plan, if you transfer your upgrade and use it on a different line, this will put your unlimited line back under contract. This would allow you to duck the $20 charge for 2 more years. If you wanted to go this route, I would look for help in the "keeping unlimited" thread.

I have several lines on my family share account. Only line #1 is unlimited data with contract end date of 11/31/2016.

Will I be able to call VZW and ask for the 100 extra minutes in order to add another year to that contract? (to 11/31/2017)

Do the 100 minutes only apply to that line or do they apply to the whole account?

Thanks!

Loyalty plans and promotions usually add one year from today only. Won't extend contract if contract is already over a year out

I still have 1 year a few days of contract left, so I'm SOL? :( (as in getting ready to pay $20 extra per month after my current contract expires next year?)

Oh well.. no biggie. I'll just quit using wifi completely and use my unlimited data 100% of the time. Wait a minute, I sure hope I'm not the only one doing this out of spite for the $20 increase. Won't that cause an increase in network usage for Verizon? :D :D :D

I've always used wifi whenever possible.. even if it's much slower than the 4G LTE. I mainly want to conserve battery, but also I figured it wasn't nice to strain Verizon's bandwidth all the time even if I have unlimited. Now the gloves come off. 4G 100% of the time, baby! :)

If your contract is still more than a year out then these loyalty methods won't help.

On my note 5, I haven't found any difference in battery life using a strong 4GLTE signal vs wifi.
