Anyone get Note 8 just to kill time till the real king arrives, LG V30!

Can the V30 take a picture with movement in the frame without blur? I guess we will see. The V20 and G6 struggled pitifully in that area.

I can see your point but the story isn't told on paper. Yes, on paper the V30 is comparable in many areas. The V20 was also comparable in many areas to the Note 7, but the overall experience lacked significantly. The launcher wasn't as good as Samsung's so I used Nova. The highly vaunted camera was overrated. The battery life was terrible and started to deteriorate and shut down at 15% only 5 months into ownership. Looking at the paper stats, yes the two were very similar. But paper stats only go so far. I doubt the V30 is going to be any different. LG phones are what they are at this point. And until they make some serious improvements they will remain a tier or two behind Samsung.

They actually weren't that comparable. The note 7 had the much larger battery, better camera spec wise and better screen. I could care less about the launchers because like you stated, I throw Nova on any device that's not a pixel or nexus. Now when you compare the note 8 and v30 on paper, they are almost identical where as the note 7 vs v20 were not. So why would you doubt the v30 would be any different than past phones, where as with every iteration they have improved or corrected any previous issues.

We're 4 full generations with 7 flagships without any work to fix the camera. They're definitely throwing hardware at it, but the simple software processing has never been addressed. We don't have final versions of the V30 software yet, but early signs are showing the exact same issues. :(

As well as quick charge 3.0 vs 2.0, more comfortable form factor, and better battery since its the same capacity in a smaller display. I would also say wide angle lens is far more useful than a 2x zoom lens. Cant forget the biggest advantage which is PRICE. This is expected to come in at the $700 price point which would be $230 cheaper than the note 8.

Note 8 has both wide and zoom lens.

Low light pics are weak too. Especially the V20. S8+ takes kick a$$ low light pics, so N8 should be equal or better.

Note 8 has both wide and zoom lens.

It does not. you are misinformed. When they refer to the wide and zoom lens on the note 8 they are referring to the standard lens in comparison to the zoom lens. Its not an actual wide angle lens its just wider than the zoom lens.

Agreed. After several years with LG I jumped ship, primarily because of the camera.

I kinda hoped they would take some pointers from the pixel team in the camera department since LG is building the xl 2. From what I've seen, Google nails the post processing on the pixels.

I'm rooting for LG and hope this phone will be a winner... pushes Samsung to keep innovating.

My first LG was the G2 and loved it. I thought that was a game changing phone in design. I had the Nexus 4 before that which I think was an LG design (?) and my first android and that was fun. I got the G3 and an ok phone but nothing exciting.

G6 was really nice looking phone and great change of direction... camera being meh made it a deal breaker for me. V30 seems like G6 with all the issues/criticisms people had so good for them.

Even nicer looking IMO than the G6... love the very subtle curve in glass and size, beautiful screen. I think it will attract people that wanted a phone between S8 and + if all else performs well.

I think it's more of a comparison with the S8 line but it is Flagship vs Flagship... Samsung's S-Pen VS LG's Quad DAC/Media focus... Fight!

Agreed. After several years with LG I jumped ship, primarily because of the camera.

Nope - matter a fact after reading the following article about the V30, I feel even better about the Note 8 than I did before.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs LG V30: What's the difference? - Pocket-lint

"Conclusion"
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the LG V30 are best friends when you compare their specs. They both offer lovely, solid designs, full-screen fronts, dual-rear cameras and powerful hardware.

The Note 8 has a larger display and it also has the benefit of the S Pen stylus, though it is also the larger device and heavier device. The LG V30 meanwhile, has a slightly sharper display, likely better audio capabilities and the benefit of MIL-STD-810G drop protection

I read the article and id like to know what you read that makes you feel even better about the note 8 than before? They were praised equally and if anything having the sharper display, better audio and MIL STD drop rating would all be pluses over the note 8 which its only advantage over the v30 would be the S Pen. Take off the Samsung shades.

Both companies are South Korean heavyweights - so just from the standpoint that Samsung bounced back from the Note 7 issue last year with a new device that can go toe to toe with a very reputable competitor. To knit pick over which display has that extra pixel or two and all the other stats is immature. The user experience is truly what matters and that is mostly unique to each individual.

For me personally, it's all about the S Pen and to see the other specs are very comparable to other high end phones, is what makes me feel all that much better about the Note 8 (especially since I'm coming over from an iPhone 6S Plus and Apple since 2007).

In 35mm terms, the standard lens on the Note 8 is considered wide angle.

The Note series is in a class of it's own. Unless other makers come up with something similar to the S Pen or better. Your finger cannot compare.

LG have been using a pen for years already with the LG Stylus and LG Stylus 2

You seem really defensive over the V30. Why in the world would you get a Note 8 to "kill time" when the V30 is going to drop in less than a month? Im guessing the answer to your subject question is no one except you? I'm going to concur with what someone said earlier, if you feel the V30 is the real king, then by all means buy it and enjoy it - you don't need Note fans to justify your decision nor are you going to convince Note fans to jump ship either.

I will get both because of addiction. Not into this the real king if phones.

I have JOD and can get a new phone every month if I please. So why not try the Note 8 if the v30 doesn't come out till a month later if its not gonna cost me anything out of pocket. On top of that I get all the free gifts for preordering that I can turn around and sell to actually put cash IN my pocket. Im not trying to convince anyone to switch, especially not in a Note 8 forum. My question was simple. how many other people are like me, who are just getting the note 8 to pass time till the v30 arrives.
