[ROM][ACS]SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2 (Updated 6/20)

I just flashed this rom this morning, and everything's working fine...nothing's blowing me away by any means, but it's all for the most part smooth.

I noticed when trying to set my alarms that all of the default android sound files are seemingly gone(?). If I try to open them, it crashes my phone. Then once it reboots, I get a constant error "andoid.process.media has stopped unexpectedly". If I force quit, the error window pops up immediately again infinitely until I reset my phone. Is this common? :O

Sounds like you need to boot back into CWM and wipe 3x and flash the ROM again.

Hello, I'd really like to root my Epic and install this fancy new SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.0. I've been reading tons of forum posts, both here and over at XDA, but I'm literally overwhelmed by all of the information and don't know where to begin! Can someone please provide step-by-step instructions on what to do given that I am starting with an unrooted phone running EC05? I don't currently have EXT4 or ClockworkMod or anything, just stock Froyo EC05 OTA from Sprint.

I am perfectly happy if those step-by-step instructions are just a link to another post that provides the details, but it is important to me that the instructions start from an unrooted EC05 scenario.

Thanks!

Give it a good read, understand and then follow the steps for EXT4 conversion which is needed to run this and any other EC05 based custom ROM.

Thanks Paul. I had read that document earlier, and was confused about Procedure 2, which didn't seem to work if you started with EC05, but since I first read that page earlier today it has already been updated with new information about that scenario so I'll try try again. :)

Thanks!

Yes we worked on the process and have it down now.. Key is making sure you have the ROM on your sdcard before you start the process because you will need to flash that ROM to finish off...

I've read through the new procedure now, but the only part that worries me is that there doesn't seem to be any point in the process where a backup (nandroid?) is taken. If I follow this process, I presume that there is no way to return my phone to the state it was prior to the process?

And, since I'm not yet rooted until after the process is complete, Titanium Backup cannot come to the rescue here either, right?

Sorry, please forgive all the worrisome questions.

Man, my phone's been pretty wonky since going to 1.1.0. I've tried 3 different web browsers (stock, Firefox and Miren) and they all randomly lock up the phone. I could be browsing on and off all day or it could be the first thing I do after rebooting and the whole phone locks. The only way to get it to respond is to pull the battery.
This happened again last night and I lost by browser settings. Just now I ran Titanium to restore them and it would instantly close. Not a force close, just there and then gone with no message. I tried a few other apps at it happened with anything that needs root access. I rebooted the phone to try and fix it, at this point my battery was reporting about 40%.
As soon as the phone came back on it gave me the <5% low battery warning. I plugged it in and ran Titanium, this time it worked. I restored my browser settings, opened it up and the phone froze. :-\
I pull the battery, turn it back on, and now it's reporting 53% charge. It's driving me crazy.

I'll probably do a 3x wipe and reinstall over the weekend when I have time to redo all my settings and apps, but this install is from a fresh 3x wipe as well. When I first upgraded from 1.0.2 it froze on the first reboot and corrupted all of my apps (looking forward to journaling support) so I wiped and installed 1.1.0 from there.

That is correct. Once you go to EXT4 you won't be able to return. The only way to do a backup before hand is to do the OneClickRoot v2.5.5/CWM 2.5.1.0 procedure #1. Then you can make your backups with Titanium Backup or Mybackup Root. Then you can follow procedure #2 for the EXT4 conversion and when you get on whatever ROM you want to run you can redownload your apps manually and then restore DATA only to those apps.

@k0nane,

FYI, you can't install NASCAR/FOOTBALL from Sprint because of the branding change you did to the framework-res.apk. I had this problem when I did the branding change from Sprint to TrulyEpic Rebirth when I was working on the Mini Theme for it. Not sure how many people will complain but I thought I would mention it since I saw you did the branding change from Sprint to ACS. Only way around it I found was to provide a stock theme with the Sprint branding to flash, then you can install Nascar/Football then afterwards they can flash a theme with whatever customizing you want.

As noted in the thread on XDA, anyone with freezing problems should switch to VisionKernel or use the kernel linked in the changelog.

Indeed - but that was MysteryEmotionz's work and I blame him for it. ;) He said he'll have an addon to revert that for the rare users of Sprint's bloatware coming soon. Hang tight! :)

Thats cool. I pretty much figured you knew but I figured I would throw it out there anyways just in case anyone else was wondering... I found out the hard way like I said when I did some theming and changed the Sprint branding.

FYI, I have my 2 favorite Sprint bloatwares working - Sprint TV and Navigation.
So since I do not like Nascar and there looks to be no football season, I'm good.;)

@k0nane,

I do have one thing to ask. I have personally had problems with CIQ removal. It just doesn't seem to like running on my device. From your experence is this one of those things kind of like kernels where some devices don't like running at say OC 1.4Mhz and others do.. ? Same goes for the CIQ removal, is there devices that just don't work well with it and others that do?

Example, I can run your Syndicate ROMs fine.. I go to flash a EC05/Syndicate compliant tested theme like Bionix Black or the Blue Midnight and I'm met with a barricade of FC's. As you can tell by my tech support here I'm well aware of the proper wipe routine, 3x cache/dalvik before flashing themes, etc.. It seems like as long as I stay stock ROM its okay, I try and flash a theme and all heck breaks loose...

Note: This has happened with me on Bonsai and even when you introduced the CIQ removal on EB13...

Your thoughts?

Note, this is why I was hesitant to add CIQ removal to my own ACE ROM because I just had so much trouble with my own device and I figured if I couldn't get it working right on my device who was to say its going to work on everyone else.

Yep, just like I found out on TER with the Mini Themes.. Its fine for the other Sprint bloatware, the Sprint branding change in this case to ACS only effects NASCAR/FOOTBALL as they use that "signature" to verify your running Sprint authorized OS to complete the installation process.

Your thoughts?

CIQ's removal isn't something that will work or not based on the device - it's just done right, or not.

Most themes won't affect it, as none of the changes reside in framework-res.apk or twframework-res.apk; the changes are in services.jar, ext.jar, framework.jar, and DialerTabActivity.apk. I can't say why the themes are causing you such issues without a logcat - and even then, it may not be clear. The best advice I can give you right now is to try Emotionless Beast 1.7 - if anything is guaranteed to be compatible, it's that.

Thanks Paul and Atlienzz, for your replys everything seems to be running smooth except for gps lock issues, also is their anyway to get back the stock alarm clock app?

I love it i tried a bunch of 3rd party apps and they were just terrible!

Is there a compatible AOSP lock screen mod for this ROM? I tried to flash the EB one and I started getting fc's.

Believe it or not after much trial and error my device needs a 5x cache/dalvik wipe to do themes... Anything less is a no go... very strange but hey it works... :)
