[ROM][ACS]SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2 (Updated 6/20)

since i enabled journaling i am also having the issues with the phone freezing up once or twice a day. every time i've been using the browser. i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. Also- camera not working (FC'ing instantly when i push camera button), and i still cannot get tapatalk to work (fc's when i do a search to try to add AC forums).

You would have to reflash the ROM or pull it out of the ROM yourself and place it on your sdcard to use...

If you know how to use WinRAR or 7zip then just look in the following directory of the Syndicate ROM zip.

/system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/default_wallpaper.jpg

Take that from the ROM zip and place it on your sdcard...

couldnt they also use something like rootexplorer to go to the same directory and just copy and paste it onto their sd card without having to involve a computer??

Can't copy anything from apks once they are installed and in use from my experience. I've tried.

hm. bummer. i do everything off PC anyways. was just an idea. my big projects for this weekend are gonna be to maybe figure out this xml stuff... (ive put like 20hrs and accomplished nothing), then root/rom/and theme my gf's transform (she FINALLY caved and is letting me do it).

any ideas on the freezes while using the browser in SRF?? (and camera/tapatalk? :( )

Not idea on browser, only known bug k0nane has report is FC's when saving an image. Tapatalk and others again could come down to theme changes. Those 9.pngs are very fussy over normal pngs for some reason if you have modified ay of those.

Been Solid for a month.. 1.1.0 showing signs of cracks now.

Overall, I've been in love with this ROM since the first release and have been following the forums to update as soon as the next release comes out.

My phone has been running great until a few days ago.

Intermittently, the stock browser started force close, while reading a basic news site like cnn.com (should I use another browser like Miren or Dolphin instead?) On the stock browser, it would lock up, and the screen wouldn't respond. I resorted to pulling the battery to reset the phone.. (Is this creating more problems? since I'm not able to shut down properly, when pulling the battery?)

I also tried using wifi tether, that immediately caused the phone to reboot.

Then, this morning, my phone was stuck with the battery charge indicator light on... even though it was unplugged from the charger. I had to pull battery again as it wouldn't respond to any attempts to turn it on...

Now, almost every app I open, including the app drawer, results in a force close message.

Is there a way for me to recover without having to ODIN or factory reset? I have everything customized so perfectly, and prefer to restore data somehow, rather than investing another 1-2 hours in setting up the phone.

What do you guys recommend as a way to recover? Wipe and restart from scratch? Or, any chance to patch the data and keep going without too much hassle?

Could "journaling" help to avoid these issues in the future? ACE 2.0 looking tempting

Thanks!

Sounds like you got yourself some data corruption going on. Best thing to do is run a ROM that has journaling enabled or you can enable journaling on SRF by flashing the ROM from scratch, boot up, then shut down and reboot into CWM and make a Nandroid Backup.. Turn around immedaitely and wipe everything 3x and restore you backup and journaling will be enabled.. That should help in the future for data corruption.

I don't believe you need to Odin.. Just wipe everything 3x in CWM and reflash the ROM and follow my suggestions or go with a ROM with journaling enabled.

If this is somehow against the rules please accept my apologies and feel free to remove the attachment.

Here's the default wallpaper that was being requested.

I hope this helps.

Paul... Thanks so much. I tried your recommendation and actually loaded ACE.. since it was one of the newer ROMs with journaling. Setting up the apps was a bit of a chore, but I'm sure we've all spent time doing the same things.

I'm so happy with my epic 4G again. THANK YOU!

As noted many times on here and XDA, ANY freezing issues are a result of the kernel. Use Twilight Zone 1.0.4 or VisionKernel 1.1.

EDIT: And enabling journaling is trivial - just take a backup in CWM and restore it.

I love this ROM but I keep having strange battery life issues with it? Seems to be more frequent then it used to be but maybe it's just me?

I have the phone on the charger all night every evening so I am starting with a full charge. I am not a heavy phone user and have been getting great battery life. Usually by lunch I am still at 70% or so.

The issue I have is if I reboot the phone, when it comes back my battery is almost dead. 5% charge (or less) It goes from 70% to nothing just over a reboot?
I suspect something may be running it down but the battery display is not reflecting that until a reboot? Sometimes the phone feels warm like it has been working hard.

I have re-flashed several times. Calibrated the battery several times. Went to another ROM and then back again, wiped many times etc. and I still get this problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: Just wanted to ad that I am not getting any FC's or any thing like that. The only use the phone gets is maybe a couple of calls and maybe a game or 2 of angry birds. The signal level is weak in my office area so the phone does go in and out of roaming.
I also tried the ACE ROM and I don't have any issue's like this but the battery drains quicker in general and barely makes it through the day. It doesn't drop the battery on a reboot like I am experiencing with SyndicateRom

The device being warm to the touch indicates that something is constantly running for a long period of time. That something would be using the CPU, cell radio, or both quite a lot or constantly. In my experience from other mobile platforms sometimes an app or something can get stuck and cause that. An example of user activity: prolonged audio or video streaming over carrier data is a typical usage that would cause a device to get warm to the touch. But anyways you will need to discover the cause by selective elimination. That can be as simple as beginning with closely watching what you do (use) to try and catch the cause. Then remove the suspected thing and see if it is indeed the cause. This however can be complicated if the problem is sporadic. The other method is to start with a clean slate slowly adding apps one at a time providing ample time for the problem to occur between each thing added until such time as the problem does occur. And then it is likely that the last thing added is the cause.

Yeah, it's not always warm but sometimes it is. It's hit or miss? I can't pin point it. I may try flashing the EB13 modem and see what that does. I do see the signal strength completely cut out at times.
Like I said, I'm not a heavy user and the only things I do are make a phone call or 2, play a game of angry birds and I have gmail running. Not doing any thing else, not streaming, not running any other apps, nothing? It has to be the modem or Angry Birds game doing something?

Flash the EB13 modem. Further problems, wipe cache/dalvik cache, further, data.

Anyone have a link to a flashable version of EB13 or do I need to push the tar with Odin?

Any issue with going back to EB13 on this ROM or is it transparent?

Thanks for all the help.

you can always use spareparts to get a better battery use history?

If this is happening frequently through out the day searching for signal could be the cause of the heat up. And would also account for extra battery consumption from what would be expected.

Assuming your talk time and angry birds time is roughly the same day to day. It is possible that gmail sync or other syncing could be getting stuck in some way. Especially coupled with signal loss if frequent enough. This would be my preliminary suspect. I'd try and watch closely and see if the signal is being lost a lot (either data and or complete cell radio). And also see how often the sync icon shows up. Do you use juice defender?

Well I flashed the EB13 Modem last night to see if the EC05 was the source of the problem.
Took it off the charger this morning and went off to work. Made a short phone call and played 1 or 2 quick games of angry birds in the morning. By noon my battery was at 70% still. Did a couple of re-boots and no issue. Things were looking up!

Around 3pm battery was at 50% and still looking good. Did a reboot and ....battery dead :-(
Put it on the car charger for 20 minutes, unplugged and battery was reading 50%. Rebooted and it went to 72%. A hour later waiting for the wife I played a quick game on AB and did a reboot. Battery dead. Re-booted again, battery at 21%. Shut down and pulled the battery, started up and battery at 50%??

So the EB13 modem did not fix the problem and it seems that AB may have something do do with my issues? Strange because I do not have this issue with any other ROM I have tried?

I'm going to try and not launch Angry Birds all day tomorrow and see what happens. Starting to suspect I may have a bad battery? I don't understand why it shows 50% then I reboot and it's dead? Reboot again and it reads something different. Pull the battery and it comes back even different?

Thanks for all the suggestions!
