so quick question...i flashed the rom and everything is great. thank gawd since this was my first attempt at rooting and flashing a new rom. why i waited so long i have no idea......

anyway, my question is: do voltage control and setcpu do the same thing? i should only use one of the programs right?

i had a setcpu.apk on my pc already so i just went ahead and installed that on the epic. right now i just left it at max:1000 min:100 on conservative, but what settings are you all running? is 1200 or more safe?

To answer your first question, yes, only use one of the two programs.

100/1000/conservative is a good setting that'll give you pretty much the best overall battery life. If you want to squeeze some more performance out of your device while sacrificing a little battery life, set max to 1200. Some phones can handle a max of greater than 1200 and some can't, but 1200 is a safe overclock setting for amost all phones.

I have updated from SRF 1.1.0 to the current SRF 1.1.1 since the updated ROM release and I must say there is a significant boost in performance, responsiveness, and battery life!!!

Oh mah gawd! I loooooove this ROM and love the team who developed this beast. Finally, a ROM that employs the Epic's true potential.

Again, I love this ROM, the chefs who cooked it up, and my Epic

Oh, and my fianc?e is on SRF now, too. She was iffy about using a launcher with an app draw that doesn't scroll sideways, but we found Go Launcher is great for her (and I may jump on, too. Launcher Pro is fine, but not being able to easily move homescreens around is annoying).

what do you mean by moving homescreens around?

many have mentioned the improved battery life, but after one day of minimal use my battery lasted about the same as prior to the root and flash.

Many launchers let you change the order of entire home screens at a time. Launcher Pro requires you to move individual icons from one home screen to another, so changing the order of home screens is tedious.

I don't think I'm getting as long out of my battery compared to SRF 1.1.0/Genocide. Originally had SRF 1.1.1/TZ installed, noticed the drop in battery, then flashed Genocide. Still zippy all around. Have SetCPU set to 1000/400 conservative (previously was 1200/200 on 1.1.0/genocide). ADW.launcher seems to crash more, especially after Plants v. Zombies.

I feel like Plants vs. Zombies is just not very optimized right now. It uses a crap load of memory and usually causes Launcher Pro to close as well (along with other background apps).

Did you calibrate the battery after flashing the ROM/kernel?

SRF 1.1.1 VPN (tun.ko that is) working for anyone?

Certainly loving this ROM, however I do have one issue that I have never run into before. I upgraded from SRF 1.1.0 to SRF 1.1.1 and I can no longer load tun.ko for VPN support.

I started with custom roms early this year when ragnarokx was doing TruelyEpic Rebirth. I have always just been able to drop into a shell and load the tun.ko kernel module and then open the 'VPN connections' app and connect.

Even with SRF 1.1.0 (even though the release notes say it was added to the ROM), I always had to still insmod it from the shell, but it did work.

However since moving to SRF 1.1.1 I get an error when trying to 'insmod tun.ko' that says:

insmod: init_module 'tun.ko' failed (Device or resource busy)

I even tried to find another version of tun.ko from this page:

Anyone have any ideas? Or have this problem themselves?

Well, I have heard that battery calibration is about as useful to batteries as are task killers to Android, so no.

I did reset the battery stats after doing a full charge, however. Could be just this issue, however. I'm going to turn off JuiceDefender today and see what happens.

I Highly recommend to not use Juice Defender, after Flashing my first Ace Room, juice defender was useless, it used up more battery then without it, now i don't use any task killers or juice defender( which of course, was great when i had Stock) and my battery lasts, removing the battery stats ( is some what of a battery calibration), and again i do recommed doing a battery calibration, if you have heard that it does the same to batteries as tasks killers do to the phone, you must of certainly heard what they have stimated EXT4 Does as well? and you're running it lol, so just do the battery calibration( just download the program from the Market) , and see how that runs for ya after a day or two of use !

I mean, if I decide to add or subtract a homescreen, I have to move the icons one-by-one to get them to another screen. Other launcher programs allow you to drag and drop entire homescreens into place from the screen viewer.

I'm sure it's not earth shattering or anything - it is a smartphone after all - but it certainly seems like my marathon sessions with Snes9x and Angry Birds don't suck the life out quite as much.

For the GMail problem, I would suggest going into Settings > Applications > Manage > GMail, and clearing the cache/data.
