T-Mobile: Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Order Thread

Personally I send a tweet to John Legere and T-MOBILE asking if Verizon and Sprint are physically shipping the devices to be delivered this week, why isn't T-MOBILE. The more who ask that question might make an impact.

Assuming they do and we do not (but trying to be positive here), what I cannot understand is why TMO would let the other carriers beat them out? Especially Verizon since TMO is trying to displace them since TMO recently won 31MHz worth of 600MHz spectrum which is far superior both in terms of distance, building penetration and bandwidth to Verizon's 700MHz chunk of spectrum. I would expect TMO to deal two blows to VZW and not just one (granted, I'm not a business strategist, but, in the IC, yeah, we would do something equivalent).

Because TMO is already on to the next thing. They are busy promoting the V30 now because it's the first with 600Mhz radios, and that's their VZW killer in their mind. Plus the next Uncarrier is Wednesday. Note 8 is already old news for them.

Hey! Thanks for meeting me here. I am excited to hear that you did the Note8 preorder. I am thinking about upgrading to that device myself! We plan on starting to ship the devices on 9/13. We started charging our customer's cards on 8/29 so if for any reason the payment is denied, it gives customer's time to contact us to update their card information. Once it clears, we begin packaging the devices up and assigning the tracking number so they will be ready to ship on 9/13. Let me know if you have any questions. :-)

Typical canned response. I wouldn't doubt that the reps have access to about 5 different responses they can use with the click of a button. Sounds like just a canned robot response. All of the over enthusiastic exclamation points they use and the "I was thinking of picking one up myself" lines. lol
I understand they are trying to keep the conversations upbeat. It would just be nice though if they all didn't tow the company line and actually responded with some logic.

I just refreshed my UPS web page and, noting changed.

Check tomorrow when you get up. If there is no movement by mid-morning, I think T-Mobile customers are getting hosed and they will not ship that early. Makes you wonder if Veriozon and Sprint worked out a deal with Samsung to ship early in return for prominent placement in their stores for X amount of days.

I see the card issue. I got an email asking if it was legit. Then it took a few days before the card company approved it.

Possible on the agreement. I thought someone said their store didn't have any S8 or S8+ on display.

Well my order is complete. Over 30 minutes on the phone. She waved my shipping but the best I could get was 3 day shipping. Had it shipped to my work. And with any luck I'll might get it by next week or even luckier by weekend. Now I can do the happy dance. Here comes the waiting game.

They haven't charged my card yet.

I tweeted John a couple of days ago and I got a response from tmo rep who said "I'm sure you'll get an update soon. keep checking your email for updates", but again that was two days ago and nothing yet

Getting the phone 2 days before store release vs other carriers getting them tomorrow. That's a bunch of cramp. That situation, not that it isn't true

I can assure you if Verizon and Sprint release the phones tomorrow, and Samsung has allowed it, then us on T-Mobile and other carriers will not be pleased at all.

One in store rep looked at my account last week and told me that my phone was shipped, then asked if I had received it already. I was the one to explain to him that although my account shows it as shipped it's still showing as waiting for pickup by UPS. The reps are clueless just like us

The reps both in store and phone have no idea. The only one's that really know are the TMO materials management people, the TMO Samsung product team, and a few choice senior people. Everyone else is just swagging it to give you an answer.

Come on, are people still believing what reps have to say?

I just finished my BOGO pre-order with the same customer service rep that I spoke with on Saturday about the details for it. Told her I would like to have the $20 upgrade fee waived (since I own my phone) and she said she would have to check and would call me today. She did. I pre-ordered my BOGO Note 8. She could not waive the $20 upgrade fee for me, so, she gave me a $50 bill credit instantly and with free standard shipping.

She remarked that the BOGO will ship between Sep 13 and 15 but also mentioned that according to what she could pull up that the first pre-order has been sent to UPS (but no, my UPS information says what it says for us all still).

Either way, I'm not going to complain. My wife will be happy when she gets it because she hates iPhone. Which makes me happy. That, plus, I get a free Note 8.

I have yet to see T-Mobile actively promoting the V30 period. Can you share evidence of this?

Also bear in mind that the hype for 600MHz currently means absolutely nothing if you do not live in a rural area since that has been, and still is, the initial focus [ref]. Also bear in mind that TMO has to work with broadcasters like PBS to clear the spectrum across the country, another necessary logistic.

600MHz Broadcast Incentive Auction Results. Notice interactive maps. Also notice that a lot of spectrum has to be cleared in urban areas. So, don't hold your breath that if the V30 will win out in urban areas anytime during the next year or so until those broadcasters on that spectrum are cleared.

While I don't need to provide you proof, just check Twitter. Leger, Des, and Neville Ray have been talking it up quite a bit. But you miss the point of my post. The point is they have more to promote than just another Samsung phone in the long line of Samsung phones.

I fully understand the impact, or lack of, that the 600Mhz brings to the table today. Nonetheless, TMO is hyping it, as they should. It was a big win for them and now they have a phone that can utilize it. They want to get the word out and get people excited even if it is basically vaporware today.
