trying it again now for third time. Battery out, re-downloaded odin, new usb port. I am doing this from stock does that matter? I just followed the two steps at the beginning of this forum.

no that was if you wanted to use clockwork

you can read up on clockwork here and you can use odin to flash cwm ALL if you want it the directions are in post 3. you wont need the update.zip

yeah it does that because it rewrites your whole system, flash one of my packages in the stickies, they are rooted

Can I use a file manager like ASTRO to back up my apps? And if I reinstall it after I flash EB01, will it bring them back from the SD card?

You would typically use Astro, Root Explorer, or similar file management app to move files around on your phone. As far as I know, they are not designed to back up your apps. Apps like Titanium Backup and MyBackup are designed to backup your apps. If what you are asking is if you can use Astro or Root Explorer to move the apps to the sd card then move them back after flashing EB01, I suppose you could. But that would take forever. Makes much more sense to use TiBu or MyBackup.
