[ROM][ACS]SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2 (Updated 6/20)

I have been running SRF/BS 1.2 low kernel with journaling on for several weeks and it has been flawless until yesterday when it started freezing and re-booting. I have had this happen several times in the last day or so. It seems to happen while I am using the phone while its charging.

I wiped the cache/dalvik but am wondering if I need to do a complete wipe and re-flash or odin back to stock and then re-flash? Thx.
I don't think Odin is really necessary but the possibility of a full wipe (wipe data/factory restore, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache) and flash the ROM could be a solution.

I was over in the thread for the Vision kernel, but figured I should drop by here...

Basically I have this issue:
When screen goes off, eventually the phone will freeze on black screen. No buttons work, plugging phone into charger does nothing. Only fix is battery pull.

This has occurred at some point in middle of two phone calls - wherein the screen is turned off by the proximity sensor, and never comes back. However, the phone isn't necessarily dead, because I am talking and receiving voice. My fianc?e said I never ended the call when it happened with her, so SOMETHING was still working in there.

This hasn't occurred when screen is on, at all.

Phone is running SRF 1.1.0 and I have tried the Twilight kernel that comes with SRF, the 1.0.4 and the Vision 1.1.0. Same issue with all. I have flashed back in the Sprint TV, Sprint TV widget and Buddies Now (which is AWOL, btw, after I flashed that back in) - but I haven't really done anything else. I used SetCPU to bump the min CPU to 200, then to 400 Mhz to see if that is the issue - didn't help.

Should I do what you mention here next, Paul? The wipe data/factory restore, 3x cache wipe and 3x davlik wipe and then reflash SRF 1.1.0 ROM?

I figure that's probably my next try, since I don't have access to Odin for a couple more hours (on a Mac at work)...

Thanks for any ideas/help!

Did you pull your battery recently? If not - that's probably just the same, tired old freeze. It's trivial to solve, just flash VisionKernel 1.1 or Genocide.
I have pulled my battery a couple of times, and I think it was during the black screen.

Could my above issue be a data corruption issue? And if so, that would mean CWM to wipe data/factory reset, 3x wipe cache/dalvik cache, then reflash ROM?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I am now trying Genocide, just to see...

Not that this thread is my own running blog, lol, but I've gone ahead and reflashed the SRF 1.1.0/Twilight 1.0.4 (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, install ROM).

So far, so good.

Glad to hear it. If you are doing restores from Titanium or MyBackup I would take things slowly and add a bit at a time, do data only restores if at all possible.

Don't forget about the new option to enable/disable journaling.. This maybe something you may want to consider if your into messing around with settings and experimenting...

Do you use Youmail, by any chance?

Well... I do kinda want to mess around - but since this issue popped up yet again on my way home... lol!

I now just need the phone to reliably work, so I'm going to first go try to sync YouMail and see if it crashes the phone...

Thanks again for your advice!

Oh, boy.

Yes, I sure do. :-)

I take it I should not, eh?

For some reason this ROM doesn't work with the youmail app installed. For me, uninstalling didn't solve the problem, I had to reflash the ROM. You can still use youmail, just not the app. For example, I have a shortcut to the youmail website on one of my home screens and have set it to text me notifications of new voicemails.

Well damn, thanks Jinded!!!

I did just uninstall the app, and then it crashed again - but I'll reflash and not install and see if that works. I'd love to avoid the Odin process if at all possible!

And come to think of it, I was up and running for a good while last night - and the last thing I did before I left work was install YouMail... Then crash on way home.

ASIDE: Man, how awesome is it to just go to market.android.com and click INSTALL a bunch of times and be back up and running? Android is coming of age, glad I got in now!

No prob, glad to help.
And help you did, sir! :D

It appears that was the issue, as I haven't had anything resembling that issue since I reinstalled 6 hours ago - and the phone never made it more than 20ish minutes before locking up before you came along and pointed me in the right direction.

So glad you came across my post and recognized the symptoms!

And, for the kazillionth time, thanks Paul and thanks k0nane - your posts and your work on the ROM have made this guy a very, very happy Android newb. Kudos! Syndicate rocks!!!!

My only complaint with this ROM is that I cannot get the internet to work without locking up the phone about half the time. I have tried different browsers, but they all end up with the same result. Everything else is super stable.

So were the 4g issues resolved?? Iv been on this rom for 3 weeks now and still pretty annoyed that i havent been able to get 4g service....

Try the Vision Kernel, there's a link in the second XDA post for this ROM.

There are no 4G issues. Flash the EB13 modem if you are having reception troubles.

Which one, 1.1 or 1.0? I don't have any plans to overclock, I just want to be able to use the browser without having to do a battery pull.
