[ROM][ACS]SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2 (Updated 6/20)

Flashing Syndicate -- lose programs?

I think I may have overlooked this (or maybe this is just my general ignorance), but if you want to install this ROM, does the process of installing it wipe all the data (including installed apps) from the phone?

Also, if I used the one click root method after doing a manual install of EC05 (when it was available in March), do you recommend redoing the one click root with the latest version?

The latest version of Syndicate does a backup and restore according to the OP at XDA.

I would still recommend backups of your important data with Mybackup Root or Titanium Backup.

You need to make sure your on EXT4 before you flash this ROM. If you simply rooted with the OneClickRoot v.2.5.5 and have Green Text when you boot into CWM then you need to convert to EXT4 (orange text in CWM)

Back up and running now Paul. Just reflashed, backed up, and now restored. Let's see how it all goes.

I would think you should be good... I had major troubles before k0nane recommended this and so far since this morning its been great. I've been able to flash themes 3 times now with no issues... Previously I was wiping cache & dalvik 5x to get a flash to take and even then it was a 50/50 shot. Now its back to the normal 3x wipe and flash.

I guess k0nane is working on getting the journaling on/off version fixed according to the OP thread at XDA. So that should help make this situation easier too...

Epic 4g Freezes

Another question for the forum... I successfully flashed a rom and such which fixed my previous startup problems... thanks for all the great advice.

I have a new question... running the rom corrected a few of the problems Ive had with the phone, but 1, the most important of them all. I HAVE tried more than one rom, to make sure it wasnt just isolated...

While my Epic is running, when it goes into sleep mode or just the screen shuts off however you would describe this behavior. It locks ups entirely. It accepts no input from any buttons and reacts in absolutely no way to any manupation or combination of buttons ive tried so far. The only thing ive discovered to do is pull the battery.

This happens sometimes within a minute of restarting the phone... and sometimes a half hour or more... the phone never makes it more than an hour on its own with the screen off before it locks up.

Some interesting behavior ive observed: This NEVER happens when the phone is connected to power either at the wall or by usb... it will function all day long flawlessly while connected to power, and then lock up 5 minutes after I pull it off and put it in my pock.

Ive tried the search function on the forum looking for people with similar problems, but im sure I am just not hitting the right keywords.

Are there any patches for this behavior? Is this a known bug?

Need more info. What OS version (e.g. Eclair DI18, Froyo EC05, etc.)? What ROM? What kernel? If the kernel is overclocked, what are its settings?

Oh sorry... I should have known to include that. It happened all the time when I was stock on Eclair as well... but now that Ive installed the new roms, at the moment I am running EC05 (I let it come in OTA) and then flashed to SyndicateRom Frozen Fully Loaded with the Twilight Kernel (1.1.0 for both) using the CWM3... and Ive flashed it more than once with different downloads.

I dont know how to set the kernel to overclock, not really interested in that anyway. So I havent messed with any settings at all... this is running as a fresh flash.

EDIT: When I fixed my previous problem with the phone booting and then going into a blank screen... I used the stickied method for flashing it back to stock Eclair using Odin and then allowed it to OTA to froyo EC05 before flashing the custom kernel

Same exact thing happened to me, black screen of death while on syndicate rom and midnight rom, only way i got rid of it was to go back to stock

Freezing is a known problem for some users on Syndicate 1.1.0 - according to the head developer k0nane, this is due to the Twilight kernel that is packaged with the ROM.

The kernel is overclocked to 1.2GHz by default. Dialing it back to 1GHz might solve your freeze up issues. Download the free app Overclock Widget to change your clock speed.

If going to 1GHz doesn't help, then flash the Vision kernel which should be more stable than Twilight.

Some phones have issues with the undervolting the custom ROMS have in sleep state. Get the aforementioned Overclock Widget and make sure Minimum is set above 100 when screen is off. A lot of phones will lockup while asleep at 100mhz. 200 seems to fix it usually or you may have to go even higher if you have inoridinately picky silicon.

This sounds like an issue I had when I first started rooting and underclocking my CPU. You'll want to install SetCPU or some other CPU monitoring app (not sure if there are any others worth mentioning). I think it costs a couple bucks on the market, or I think you can find it free on XDA if you're a member. Make sure all the setting there are set properly, in accordance with the Syndicate thread on XDA. When I had this issue, it was caused by underclocking too far on the stock kernal, which would cause the phone to not wake up from sleep. To fix this, I just bumped up the minimum CPU speed to 400 (I think, it's been a while)
Should the omadrmconfigservice still be running with this ROM?
My understanding is that removing the DRM service from the ROM completely causes more issues than it's worth, so it's easier to either turn it off manually or use an app to kill it on startup. I haven't had any luck with the startup killers so I just do it manually.

I flashed SRF 1.1 yesterday and it seems I had better battery life with Baked Snack 2.3. So I flashed the Baked Snack 2.8 low kernel and I have now lost root. I assume that means the root access is in the kernel of SRF and in the ROM of Baked Snack. How do I get root access back?

I got to EB13 using this one step method. I assume there is a way to get root back and keep SRF and the Baked Snack kernel. Sorry if I am missing something that should be obvious here.

Ed, just run the OneClickRoot for the EXT4 conversion. It will root your phone again but since you are already converted to EXT4 it will not run the conversion when you boot into CWM later, that will be skipped.

My phone did the same exact thing if I installed YouMail on it. If you have YouMail, you'll have to reflash the ROM to fix the issue (uninstalling it won't fix it). I've had this issue with every version of SyndicateROM so far.

Does this ROM (or any current custom ROM for that matter) include the Epic's default Mail client? I use that for my work's exchange server and would need one compatible with it before I decide to root.

Yes, it has the mail client included.
