Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

hey guys sorry up for bringing up this old thread but I just have a quick little inquiry. (I'm new to the forum here as you can see) I've been trying to find a working custom kernel for the thrive for months now so thank you joban for all of your hard work :) I successfully flashed the kernel and loaded CyanogenMMatt's rom. after trying to overlock in cyanogenmod settings, I'm stuck in a loop where my phone boots up and loads everything, but then crashes and says "linux kernel panic" and shuts off. I think the answer is as simple as reflashing the kernel but was wondering how I could do this? I can't get to clockworkmod to get to recovery before everything crashes. thanks in advance :)

turn off then
home+volume up + power button and hold until recovery menu

oh wow I feel really stupid now.... thanks I guess i just forgot the boot recovery combination haha :P

Edit: also I was wondering how I could get overclocking to work.. third party OC apps cause the same result as when I try to make changes directly in CM settings

Don't overclock to high. That's giving you the crash. Start low and gradually go higher.

So what min/max settings would you reccomend?

Edit: oops sorry forgot to mention I'm using the LG thrive which is clocked at 600 MHz Max but is rumored to be able to clocked to 800 MHz

Mine was at 729. The profile also dictates what you get out of it. If you set to performance, you shouldn't get the kernel panic.

On that note, I picked up a SGS2 yesterday and damn this phone is sick. Already rooted and getting ready to throw in SHOstock ROM. If it wasn't for the things I learned in this thread, I wouldn't have been confident enough to do anything like this. I'll still be around though to help out with anyone that may need it.

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

On a Thrive OC'd at 768. I am stable.

All phones are different. So you will need to take your time to figure out how high you want to go. At the same time, higher OC = higher battery drain, so figure out really what you need.

As a basic knowledge point, NEVER click the "Set on boot" box until you are sure you are stable. Otherwise you will get trapped in a loop.

As I've stated above not the OC gives me trouble but governors settings. Could you guys share yours OC/gov. It seems to me that any except performance makes my screen jerky..

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

A bit of a noob question but this kernal won't work with the new CM7.2 roms using baseband 2 will it?

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

This kernal only works on .32 not the .35 based rooms.

Also it is for OLD baseband.

I am on adfadd's cm 7.2 A8.

It looks like it will be getting official CM status shortly.

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

Should the phone be awake all the time?

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

Make sure you didn't tick the stay awake option in settings.
Settings-applications-development. It does state it should only keep it awake while charging, but its an option.

I did and not charging so this option shouldn't matter or?

When I was still on my Phoenix, I was at 729 with the performance governor. It was the only one that wasn't buggy for me.
