Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

So does this mean that there is no fix for being serviceless on .35 kernel/baseband?

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

So, I've been reading over this and several other threads for this device throughout this week. One thing I would really like to understand and I'm sorry if this isn't the appropriate thread to ask this but here goes.

Before the official LG update to ginger bread, was it possible to flash a rom in combination with Joban's kernel that actually had phone service/data/wifi?
Also, since the official update ginger bread, has anyone got a none stock rom flashed to the Phoenix that has phone service/data/wifi?
One final question, are we all solely relying on Joban's kernel to get any rom to function correctly? (I realize that the change to the .35 kernel/baseband has complicated things)

Sorry for the long post.

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

yes roming was possible with obb .32 kernel. everything worked just fine.

no as joban has not released a .35 kernel , and yes cuz joban flashed cm9 on his phone with his new .35 kernel, but is having problems.

yes as joban is the only one that has a phoenix and has the knowledge to play with roms and kernels.

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

Thanks for that very complete answer. Also, thank you joban for being awesome/kick@ss!;)

temwt2,

If you plan to run a custom ROM I recommend you get CosimcExperia 3.5 it runs pretty fast and doesn't exhibit most of the bugs that other people have been noticing with a number of the ROM's (ive tried a bunch of them). Just get CWM installed, download the ROM and Jobans kernel, install the ROM then the kernel. Go through the setup and your good to go. If you don't like that ROM try others. Any of the ROMs that work with a P500 and the .32 kernel version with the old baseband should technically work though some ROMs are better than others.

Ahhhh... I sent in a request for ICS to LG. I haven't given up one you yet Joban, but it helps to have multiple options.

donavan,

I would like to try what you suggested but there are two things holding me back right now.

One and this is probably the most important, I do not currently have a grasp on how I could easily flash back to the stock version of gingerbread I am currently running. I am not talking about fixing a soft brick or fast boot issue. I just would like to know that if I were to flash CosmicExperia 3.5 without issue, I would have some way to come back to stock. Perhaps this is really easy...

Two, I do not understand the relationship between .32/.35 versions of the kernel and the version of android that you are running. I thought that if my phone was running gingerbread that I would need the .35 version of the kernel. If this is not the case, since my phone is rooted and I already have CWM installed, I will try out some of the suggested roms tonight with the .32 version of joban's kernel.

Sorry to bother everyone again, but multiupload is down, could someone mirror cosmicexperia?

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

Can someone shed some light on something for me... why we can't use the stock kernel with one of the other ROM's? Shouldn't we be able to just build the kernel from source and toss it on top of the other .35 ROM?

I think the problem is that the .35 kernel needs a .35 baseband and the .35 baseband doesn't allow us to get service.

But that raises the question: If the official GB update is .35 and gets service, then why don't we

A) Flash stock update
B) Compile stock kernel
C) Flash ROM
D) Flash Kernel

Wouldn't that work?

Thanks kinda what I was thinking... if the stock works then it would only be a matter of getting our phones up to 2.3.4 with the new stuff, then we can root and from there I would think we would be home free as long as a stock rom will work on the Cyanogen or AOSP ROM bases. I supposed we might still need to build a kernel installer for as some roms might install a different kernel that would give us errors.

Donavan I was thinking that all this time as well! And I will assist I. Helping people root there phones after the update.

Well, my phone is running 2.3.4 and is also rooted using superoneclick. I just followed the instructions at this link: http://www.blogotechblog.com/2012/02...3-gingerbread/ which was provided by LifesGoodPhoenix in the "This is the easiest way to root the LG Phoenix / Thrive". Now I have a Phoenix and it only took me about one minute to root my phone. I have also installed CWM using donavan's instructions in the HOW TO: Clock Workrecovery Mod ( CWM ) thread. Being as I have done all that, is there something I can provide anyone from my phone that will help with progress towards a solution to the various .35 issues?

Okay so to start has ANYONE got the official KDZ file flashed and working 100%?

Get a Nanroid backup of your phone and keep it handy since your are pretty much at the perfect state for your phone to be in if we do need something. Right now were not sure what is going on with joban if he is getting a new phone (different type) we may be in some trouble. I have trying to get a handle on the kernel building process. So I hope to be able to offer some assistance soon.

From what I understand about this process is we need to get our kernel compiled in a way that we can flash it over top of another ROM. I tried loading a .35 kernel ROM on my phone and though it boots the baseband and the video are all screwy so we may need a patched kernel like joban original one.

Re: Joban's Kernel 2.08 (Overclock, CM7 2.3.7 etc..) **Gyro Fixed

donovan, I've done some work with Linux kernels before; I am fully prepared to assist in any way possible

What you're saying is that you can flash a .35 ROM but you have no service and the blue graphics like before?

And joban couldn't get the baseband working.

Guess I've got a date with google
