Then i go into recovery, clear all the data, cache, factory etc..

then I apply the .zip for the rom,

then when the fone boots into the new rom i go in and change the name of the radio

reboot the fone while holding the VOL- and the power button

but what do i click on once i reboot to flash the radio

thanks for the help

bc you're new to this, i would do it this way to minimize potential hiccups
If you want to flash onto das bamf 2.0 or the sense 3 preview rom, here's what i would do -

make a nandroid backup

check the md5 checksum of the radio, flash the radio file in hboot first (rename file pg05img.zip and reboot to bootloader), reboot phone and allow to sit for a few minutes without messing with it to let things settle.

erase pg05img file or rename it mr2 radio or whatever so it doesnt come up again by accident

reboot to recovery, wipe data, cache, and dalvik 3x each, then choose zip from sd card - flash rom.

reboot and let it sit for a few minutes to settle again.

also, when charged to 100, i would wipe battery stats in rom manager.

The reason i wouldn't do both at the same time is if you get a bootloop, you will have to go thru hoops to remove the radio file and then you might have to start over.

Also if you do one at a time you can let them settle in a little bit on their own, and not both at once.

You can flash the rom before the radio, i dont think that matters really.

however, the other instructions are correct, i would just do it like this to avoid bootloops and sd card readers.

edit - where it says wipe battery stats, thats in recovery not rom manager.

I really appreciate all the help you guys have been giving me

how do i get into hboot (is that what I go to when i power up with the Vol - and power button held) ??

what options exactly do i have to select to flash the radio once in hboot

also, flashing the rom seems rather easy, am i missing a step?

all i do is dump the file onto my sd card then boot into recovery and click on "apply from zip"?

thanks a lot guys

hboot is volume down and power held together yup.

It should say Fastboot highlighted in blue, so you hit power to select that. Volume keys move you up and down that list. It will search your sd card for that pg05img.zip file, and will ask you to install - you press volume up to accept the installation. let it do it's thing it shows you a progress bar.

in recovery mode, you need to wipe data, clear cache, and clear dalvik cache (under advanced), 2-3x each. then you select install zip from sd, choose zip from sd, find your file and select it.

i feel like i know what to do

but to be honest i'm very hesitant to try it

i dont want to mess up my phone

1.move rom onto sd card
2.clear cache, data and dalvik
3.flash rom
4.boot into new rom, move radio on to sd card and name it "pg05img.zip"
5.restart into hboot
6.select fastboot and then select new radio to install
7.reboot back into rom, everything should be working now??

do i got things right??? i want to be absolutely sure before trying to do this, I need my phone and cant afford to have it not working...

also, which one of these radios do I use?

there are at least 4 of them in that forum, which one is it?

thanks a lot !!!!

The last radio in the OP of that thread is the radio for Gingerbread (the alpha Gingerbread radio). The other radios are for Froyo ROMs only.

Flashing to a Gingerbread ROM is a little more daunting since you need to flash a new radio in hboot. If you're new to flashimg custom ROMs, you may want to try a Froyo ROM first, such as das BAMF 1.7.

Flashing 2.0-6 and NOT going to do a full wipe, lets see what happens... I just don't feel like putting everyting back to normal :) if I have any issues I will report and of course do a full wipe ... love the DB team... the ROM f'ing rocks

or is it safe?

and do I have the steps right??

Is there a beta 6 out?

I may need to return to GB. I reverted to 1.7 and the reboots are starting to wear on me.

That is the alpha radio that some believe to have caused bricking, but no one knows for sure what caused the reported cases of bricking. There's also a newer leaked radio that works with GB (link below). Bottom line is that using a GB ROM requires loading a radio that has not been released by Verizon, and it's possible that bad things can happen to your phone. If you prefer to stick with the official radio, try a custom Froyo ROM.

Your procedure is correct. Keep in mind that wiping data means you lose all your data and apps. If you have everything through gmail, then you'll get email, contacts, and calendar back after you sign back in. I assume you've backed up your apps using something like Titanium Backup.

i have everything backed up via google and my apps are backed up

I just can't help but feel i'm missing a step or so...

if I understand things correctly all i'm doing is putting the rom on the SD card, then flashing it

then putting the radio on the sd card and flashing it...

...then i'm done? should take about 15 minutes total to do?

EDIT: changed my mind and am going to do a FULL WIPE just to be on the safe side :( I hate full wipes at least I don't need to use titanium anymore, thank you GOOG :)

Yes. Just make sure you flash the ROM in recovery and the radio in HBOOT. Otherwise it won't work. It doesn't matter in what order you flash. Wiping as always is highly recomended.
